NVIDIA Kepler VBIOS mods - Overclocking Editions, modified clocks, voltage tweaks

Recommended Posts

Mine's been fine at 1.05V for over a year now, max temperatures in the Summer are 71degC (usually 65-68degC though). If your temperatures are high and you're using a lot of voltage then you might decrease the life of your card - you definitely want it under 90 degC, and under 80degC if you can manage it. (I've not heard of anyone frying their Kepler mobile card yet, apart from the guy above!)

nice to know since im also running GTX680m at 1050V i have my fan Set to 4600 RPM when ever my GPU hits 80C and i was able to maintain it below that temp while playing shadow of mordor on high settings. :) i have it Over clocked too

No,the OCedition allow to bypass the +135mhz limit. To go over 1Ghz, you need this vbios

Overclocking is not a science, i can't guarantee the frequencies you will be able to reach.

I used the 1000v one, and it worked like a charm. Running smooth as butter at 960mhz core and 2600mhz memory. I used your +190mhz for core, +500-800mhz for memory recommendation from another thread. In idle state card temperature stays at 39-40C, when running pretty decent new games it goes up to 52-53C, never above that...To my credit, I did go the extra mile with these thermal pads, purchased the thick ones with 5.0 W/m-K heat transferring power, and I put them on every memory module on both sides of the card, not just the top, where they connect with heat sinks...Thanks again for linking the working VBIOS for my Clevo P150HM

Not above 53 degC during gaming for a 680M at 1.0V and 960Mhz! I find that hard to believe, maybe you measured it in games where GPU usage doesn't get very high, especially as you're living in California, and not like Finland with no central heating or something! (The thermal pads you used aren't really going to lower the temperature of the GPU core, the GPU temperature reading is from the GPU core, so it is the paste and heatsink interface that will influence this temperature).

The good part for me is that you don't have to believe in it, for it to be true :) I did a decent job with arctic silver thermal compound and I got high quality heat sinks. It's true that I'm in Cali, but it's not a sauna in my home - we do have air conditioning, and outside temperature has no merit to the argument.

It was tested with Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, Divinity Original Sin & Might and Magic X Legacy, last 2 released this year. All of these games were getting my old GTX 580M up to 90C when overclocked, and this card stays more than 35C cooler.

Skyrim is CPU & platform limited most of time unless you're using all sorts of mods, and I don't know about the other 2 games. I still question 53 degC maximum temperature because I don't think it's achievable under normal environmental conditions, and also its highly unlikely that your fan tables are setup to react to a 53 degC temperature, which is another reason why I don't believe your 53 degC figure. Automatic fan control laptop tables are set up for fans to come on & ramp up to higher rpm's at warmer than 53 degC (I'd be surprised if the laptop even decided to switch it's fan on at 53 degC!). All this just puts your 53 degC figure in doubt. If you're not pushing GPU usage to 100% in the games you're playing, and you have manually set fans to 100% maximum duty cycle then I could maybe believe your 53 degC, otherwise not.

Hi to all and thanks to svl7, I´ve used the vbios mod for my 680m in my alienware m17 r4, it´s been amazing, I´ve got 8110pts in 3dmark11 and 5400 in fire strike, but I wonder if it would be possible to take off the starting message from svl7 mod vbios that appears when I boot up the laptop as it make that it takes me more time to use the laptop under windows.

(I hope it not to annoy to svl7 :-)

Best regards.

Hi all

I need advise about the 880m vbios compatibility. Is some of you using it with the Alienware 17 120hz screen? Can you give us your feedbacks here? Is there any bug/problem with the 120hz Alienware 17 880m?

Thank you in advance to help me!

So I flashed my alienware gtx 860m vbios to the modified one and had fun! But then when I restarted my system, I couldn't change the settings whatsoever. I used to have it at +320 Mhz and +840 Mhz through Msi Afterburner and Nvidia Inspector, but now Msi Afterburner shows only stock 797 core clock and memory clock stuck at stock. Each time I move the slider to where it was before and click apply, it would just go back to stock. Same goes to Nvidia inspector for memory clock but not core clock. Help please!!!

EDIT: I ran Msi Afterburner as admin and I can now set the core clock back to +320 Mhz but can't do anything about the memory clock. What's wrong with my VRAM? I also couldn't mess with voltage on Nvidia inspector

EDIT AGAIN SORRY: Now I can set it to +320 MHz, +840 Mhz, and move voltage again. Weird. What was the anomaly that occurred with my system? Sorry if this was a stupid question. I'm new to all of this

No, I don't think you need to flash it again.

Just to clarify...

Firmware in your video card is installed on the flash memory of that video card. If you remove the card and put it in another laptop, the flash memory goes with it and thus, the vbios.

When you format the computer what you are actually doing is formatting the hard drive or solid state drive. This has no affect on the video card bios. If you take the hard drive or solid state drive out and put it in another machine, your operating system and all your files go with it. Moving the storage to another machine does not mean things will work properly in that machine, but that is another topic. [emoji6]

Hello new to this site. Was wondering I have a asus g750jz and a gtx 880m 4gb graphics card. I can modify the bios myself but I was wondering if you guys managed to make one for the asus 4gb version. If you have let me know shoot me a message or if we can talk about making a really nice one it would be sweet. Having a little trouble with modding the bios myself. Managed to get a +300 MHz clock on the core :P and it was stable but I got little drops now and then in performance but no overheating issues. Hoping you guys could give me a hand with editing this new bios. More use to modding older graphics cards but let me know be cool if you guys can help. :) Cheers.

Hello everyone! I am looking for an answer to a problem I cannot find a solution to ... I purchased an Amd wx 4150 MXM GPU module su e bay to upgrade my HP 8570W Mobile Workstation which is currently equipped with a Fire Pro M4000. Once the new GPU has been installed, the PC screen no longer turns on but works only with external monitors connected via the docking station. The same happens once the drivers are updated! If I put the old card back on, the integrated monitor starts working again ... How can I fix it?

      Bios Release Version – v2.0.0

      Updated or Modded Items:
A11 UNLOCKED BIOS FOR m18Xr2 (UNLOCKED BY SVL7 AND FULL CREDIT GOES TO HIM FOR UNLOCKING!)
SVL7 Also created the PRR2.EXE tool that allows you to flash the new bios by unlocking it.  (FULL CREDIT GOES TO HIM FOR THAT FILE PRR2.EXE)

Here are ALL the things I've added, modded, and enhanced on this bios -
I've added FULL LEGACY SUPPORT ON THIS BIOS with ONE or TWO CARDS (SLI).  You can FINALLY use Win 7 OS on your machine and run the 900 series GPU's!
      This is a MAJOR breakthrough!

LEGACY SUPPORT Confirmed.  Works with 900 series GPu's in single OR SLI formation Updated the Intel RST Legacy to v12.9.0.2006 (Supports TRIM in RAID0 - CONFIRMED) Updated Intel RST UEFI to v12.9.0.2006 (Supports TRIM in RAID0 - CONFIRMED) Updated the ONBOARD Video Card for the HD3xxx to v2171 - FROM v2132 Updated ONBOARD Video Card for the HD4xxx to v2171 - FROM v2132 Updated the LAN Firmware & PXE Boot from 2.0.5.9 to v2.0.6.6 ADDED NvMe Support for m18xr2 ADDED M.2 support for m18xr2 Updated CPU Microcode to v29 for the 2900 CPU's Updated CPU Microcode to v1c for the 3900 CPU's Updated GOP Driver for Intel Sandy Bridge CPU Updated GOP Driver for Intel Ivy Bridge CPU Updated MAIN GOP Policy module for the m18xR2 Eliminated some code that wasn't used in the m18xR2 Updated CSM Module (v2) Streamline some coding to make mod(s) run a little more efficiently (v2) Added FPARTS.TXT to rar file in v2. (I had forgot to add it in v1) v2.5 to be released shortly.  I've updated a few more modules that I didn't realize could be updated.  (It's only 3 modules, but it's still an update!)   It should be released in about a week.  Hope this helps ya'll!
      Instructions to flash:
Use a flash drive to create a boot disk into dos Unzip ALL files into the root of the flash drive (flash.bat, r2final.bin, fpt.exe, flash.bat, prr2.exe, fparts.txt,m18r2.hdr, m18r2.hdr.bin, readmefirst.txt) BOOT INTO DOS – Note, that when you set the bios to legacy in order to boot into dos, you MAY have to reinstall OS!  (Just be prepared to reinstall no matter what) Once you boot into dos, run the file flash.bat It will unlock your bios (THANKS TO SVL7’s BIOS UNLOCKING TOOL – ALL CREDIT TO HIM FOR THIS TOOL!) Let it flash… Reboot your pc, and enjoy the MASSIVE updates!
Be on the lookout as I do plan to release newer version with more updates in the future.  However, it wont be for at least a few weeks as I'm now working on legacy support for the m17xR4 and several other systems.  So please be patient!

      ENJOY!

      NVIDIA 'Maxwell' VBIOS mods

Here you find modified VBIOS versions for the mobile parts of the Nvidia 'Maxwell' series.
The VBIOS versions in this post are tweaked for performance and versatility. You'll get almost complete control over the performance parameters of your GPU.
      List of available VBIOS mods:

      Nvidia GTX 970m - 'OC edition' rev0 - >> 6 GB Version << - modified by @johnksss & svl7 -> see attachments Nvidia GTX 980m - 'OC edition' rev0 - >> 8 GB Version << - modified by @johnksss & svl7 -> see attachments
Screenshot demonstrating the capabilities of the 970m versions:

      >> Read the instructions carefully before flashing! <<
If anything is unclear after reading or if you have additional remarks, please post in the thread.

      Flashing:

      - Go to the device manager -> 'Display Adapters' -> chooser your GPU, right click on it and choose disable
      - Flash the VBIOS with mnvflash, a modified version of nvflash (see attachments). Here are detailed instructions for nvflash in case you aren't familiar with it.
      - After the flashing is done: Enable the GPU once again in the device manager.
      - Reboot

Do NOT use driver 347.09, it's broken and useless and won't allow you to overclock, even with the stock firmware.
Don't distribute the files hosted here outside of Tech|Inferno. Don't modify the files you download here.
