MINE
dunno why but it idle around 55-60 , max temp when i play game is around 74-79 and my GPU is MIN 55 and reach 75? Should I worry and why is my idling so high? My desktop never idle this high and should I get a cooling pad? Is this normal , just got the laptop today. Khenglish
Laptops idle high because manufacturers have the fans shut off at lower temps to save battery life and since people don't like fan noise, while in desktops fans never turn off. Your load temps are good for a laptop and well below maximum allowed.
octiceps
Temps are fine. Don't worry about it.
galaxies
I get around the same temps my self on my y500 you should be set, I would start worrying if your temps go above 90C under full load.
faarys
Don't worry buddy, yours is much same like me Lol....that is exactly a safe temperature, but you might want to look at your GPU load since your idle Temp is around 50~60C XD,maybe something load the GPU
chasquare
if this worries you, a quick replacement of the thermal-paste can help with the cooling and a laptop cooling fan; i have seen worst temps especially with the GT750m SLI running games for 2 hours. you are fine just like they said. pierrePoutine
nvidia inspector now has variable temperature throttles if you dont want to go past a certin temperature.
Uberperson
Mine is running pretty hot too, but that is only if you hold your hand right next to the exhaust. Generally it cools down when idling for me. Just in case I use a cooling pad.
dl123
I think a lot of people get caught on this. When you improve the cooling system with thermal paste, the system fan speeds reduce. This nets you the same temps you had before usually. The fans automatically speed up or slow down to maintain the noise level and temperature, so without manual fan speed control it is difficult to measure the effectiveness of new thermal compound or a cooling pad. Infernal_Cowboy
High-positioned cooling stand is a must-have for SLI configuration that blows the hot air right at the mouse hand...
himen256
Can you guys tell me if the ultrabay fan is any good? As I have read that its actually take fresh air away and coz of that there are higher temps. Can any one confirm that?

Sodalink
I got a y500 with 650m sli, one card is at 45 and the other is at 50 idle so about the same.
_EF_
nvidia inspector now has variable temperature throttles if you dont want to go past a certin temperature.Does that mean that if we set lower threshold, the coolers will start roaring on lower temperatures?Or it will proportionally sacrifice performance for the sake of temperature? Jetmike747
I got a y500 with 650m sli, one card is at 45 and the other is at 50 idle so about the same.Hey I have a y500 and I noticed the same temperature difference. It must be because one of the 650m's share the heat sink with the CPU.

It must be because one of the 650m's share the heat sink with the CPU.Believe it or not, it's usually the Ultrabay 650M that runs slightly hotter, because even though the main GPU and CPU share a fan, their fan is much more powerful than the Ultrabay one. Bizkit5347
nvidia inspector now has variable temperature throttles if you dont want to go past a certin temperature. How so? I have svl's latest unlocked BIOS and the latest nvidia inspector, and anything to do with the fans are grayed out.
octiceps
How so? I have svl's latest unlocked BIOS and the latest nvidia inspector, and anything to do with the fans are grayed out.I think it's only available on the 750M systems.
pierrePoutine
from all the postings the fans never spin as fast as the lenovo fan program where the fan cycles. it only throttles. once temp gets to X, the clock rate throttles.
DjSweetBazz
my idle cpu temps are 48-55C gpu 1 is ~44Cgpu 2 (ultrabay) is ~39CHowever when playing games the second gpu runs about 5C hotter than the other gpu. Also, this laptop sucks in air from the bottom, so dont forget to put something under the laptop so you dont block that. I use a cooling pad (which is never on) just so the bottom is free
denicalis
it depends whats you are doin on it, mine got from 60 to
might
cpu temp can easily go to 90C and get throttled if you run prime95
AviatorX
You should not worry about the temps they are perfectly fine, I've seen much higher temps in laptops. So you should be alright
devoda
Definitely not to hot. The machine will automatically shut off at 90-100C to protect itself. Those temps are good. @Infernal_Cowboy do You have a cooling stand you'd recommend for the y500?
sagg1989
I have a ideapad Y500, when I play games the temperature of the cpu is around 80-90 degrees celsius, I think this is to hot for a laptop but a lot of peoples says "It´s fine", my older laptop is a inspiron 1501 and never go too hot.
