Thank you very much for this post, I am always worry some when disassembling laptops so this really helps, I just bought my y500 a week ago so I will be opening it up soon to see if mine has an msata port

The solution That I found was to use driver sweeper to clean out the nvidia drivers and then install the latest one, dont use beta drivers because those tend to not work.

I dont very much like windows 8, I use windows 7 explorer to disable the metro ui and bring back the windows 7 start button. I wouldnt go back to windows 7 though because Windows 8 uses almost half the resource, Just modify windows 8 if you dont like the style.

I get around the same temps my self on my y500 you should be set, I would start worrying if your temps go above 90C under full load.
