Dell recently posted a new BIOS for the M11x R3 on their support site - A05.

Grab it here: M11x R3 - BIOS A05

Release notes:

Quote
Modify SCU resolution to 1024 x 768 for meet Windows 8 requirement.

Security Issue - Once user password option enabled, system request the Password to enter the boot device

Since that's only half the fun I also unlocked the hidden menus, see attachment. ;)

As always with modified BIOS - use at your own risk, don't change anything you aren't familiar with.

Hello,

I'm new to this forum.

I own an Alienware M11X R3 for 6 months and I'm very happy with it.

What is the advantage to unlock hidden menu in the BIOS ? What does it offer ?

I'm very excited about this bios! It was recommended by the folks over at NotebookReview so the good word travels quick, eh?

Edit: Don't suppose that there are any tutorials on all these new options?

I set the memory speed to 1600 in the chipset tab and also tried xmp profiles in the memory overclocking tab, no effect.

Notebookreview sent me here. Does this bios has options for fan speed/ temperature settings?

Edit: Flashed unlocked Bios and was so happy, to see an option to change fanspeeds and temp tables. But changing anything there does absolutely nothing. :(

Can't wait to give this a try. Since both my M11x's are out of warranty I may as well play around with one of them to see what I can do. Cheers!

Think this is viable for forcing turbo boost to always be max?

Just flashed this and have not noticed any change to menus from my stock a03.

Nevermind, it seems that I accidentally flashed the stock a05 again, after realizing there is a huge amount of stuff unlocked!

Great job!

I think so, why not testing Intel XTU? Got 104.5+ Mhz bclock on my i5 2467m with this ;)

I am very curious about this bios mod. I was wondering what other hidden options are unlocked? Would I be able to use ThrottleStop to force max turbo by using this unlocked bios or overclock the BCLK? Would be glad to hear from all the M11X R3 owners who have done this bios mod. Any help would be appreciated.

I am curious. How did you overclock the BCLK to 104.5? Could you please let me know? What is the max limit you raised the BCLK on your system and was it stable?

I was able to overclock the BCLK from 99 to about 105 on my i7 2617 using Intel XTU after installing the modified bios. Granted, it is only a small boost but it has helped in shaving off some time in video rendering.
