  1. Hello, Out of the box the Nvidia Card is allways ON even if you don't use it. The driver used by default called nouveau has bad performance with some nvidia cards. If you wan't to play video games with Steam for example, you will need to install proprietary drivers and make Optimus technology work first ! For the moment I successfuly installed nvidia new drivers for Linux (nvidia-313) but I'm not able to make optimus works. The system use by default INTEL video card but I can't power on the nvidia card at the demand as this is done with Windows
  2. Did you have problem with Graphical drivers and Optimus technology ?
  3. I have both : Razer Imperator 2012 & Cyborg R.A.T The first one is really good and precise. The second is funny but expensive and I think a little too heavy [h=1][/h]
  4. alienware_m11x - Documentation Ubuntu Francophone here is an interresting thread on how to make Optimus technology and Alienware FX work well on Linux. i'll test it tonight and post my review
  5. Hello, As now the gaming system Steam is available for Linux, I though that would be a good idea to open a new discussion about Linux on Alienware for gaming. I think Steam will port more and more games on this OS and it is interresting to try it. I would post my reviews about it in this thread. For the moment I successfully installed Linux Mint (a nice version of ubuntu) I need to try Steam and a few games with differents graphical cards drivers. here are the steps I followed : Choose a good Linux Distribution : Mint is a good choice as it comes from Ubuntu with a few improvments. (ubuntu is supported by Steam and has a huge community) Download Mint : http://www.linuxmint.com Use LiLi USB creator to make a bootable USB Key Install the OS (very easy graphical installer) Reboot Install better Nvidia drivers for your laptop (on command line) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa apt-get dist-upgrade apt-get install nvidia-313 nvidia-settings Install Steam Did anybody tried to play on Linux with this Laptop ?
  6. I was maybe thinking of remplacing my M11x laptop for a M14x... Do you think this is worth it ? Should I wait for a new release of the M14x ?
  7. Hello, I own a M11xR3 : Here is a small review of my feelings about it : Pro : * Very small * Powerfull * Nice looking * Drivers updated very often by Dell * Battery life is good Contra : * Very small * The screen is glossy * The Fan is very noisy * The graphical card begin to be old for the new video games By the way I replaced the standard harddrive by a SSD And the RAM memory by that : CORSAIR SO-DIMM DDR3 4 Go 1600 MHz - Achat/Vente CORSAIR SO-DIMM DDR3 4 Go 1600 MHz - RueDuCommerce
  8. Hello again, Is it possible with custom Bios to change the RAM frequency to 1600 Mhz ?
  9. Hello, I'm new to this forum. I own an Alienware M11X R3 for 6 months and I'm very happy with it. What is the advantage to unlock hidden menu in the BIOS ? What does it offer ?
