  1. Nice work @J95 Thanks for posting the drivers modded for everyone at every update.
  2. okay thanks Ocitep my mistake. Nvidia Inspector has a great amount of options so that is good. Alienware was different, my apologies.
  3. I can definitely agree with this, the model I had trouble with over two different laptops same model HDX18 type. The Elitebooks/Probooks always seemed to have an above standard build quality when it comes to proffesional pc. Definitely not the brand to go to unless you plan to spend a decent penny on the pro lines. Toshiba isnt bad at all for budget pc but omg a friend gave me a Toshiba for parts it was one of the lower model and it was the thinnest bendy plastic frame i have ever seen, one could barely push down on the top it would probably crack the screen. Seems to say if you cant have a big budget on a laptop tread carefully on brand of choice, all parts may as mentioned above come from same factories bit it is how much money amd good design has gone into any particular model as to how durable one is. I must think that all brands out now have some models with some flawed design and others that really shine amongst the rest. I think thats why reviews are so great and forums. We can all discuss our experiences and warn each other if there are any particular models to watch out for but calling a whole brand bad is not correct when its more like specific budget models. Each laptop is unique. Thanks Nando4 you always great suggestions.
  4. I have that exact type I even picked up an extra to keep around. These work great. They worked with my Corsair m550 msata ssd and a 80gb Lite On msata ssd/caching drive cool
  5. based on how 880m is designed that would only be true if you flash the modded vbios, stock at stock boost clocks under some games and benchmarks you can see it drop clocks past a certain power ddraw and temp. with modded vbios it can be throttle free up to 160% of stock tdp of the gpu and 93c throttle start instead. But you must set those with an app like EVGA PrecisionX and have the modded vbios loaded. under light loads the gpu will not throttle but almost all of them throttle under games that fully utilize the cards full stock power. Games from just a year or two ago may not be enough to show that, games like Crysis 3 at max settings and some others should fully load those cards. Skyrim at full Ultra settings and the HD texture pack isnt even enough to use full boost clock while running my monitors 60hz/60fps. So you really need a heavy load to see the issue in most cases. I am glad your setup in anycase has not gave you trouble as is
  6. quite a few months in on my Alien 18 with liquid pro on 880m core and 4940mx haswell and I couldnt agree more. Temps have not budged from where they were right after pasting. :awesome:
  7. Intel XTU needs a lot of unthrottled performance at some high speeds to score anywhere in the 1000 score range. It sounds right if you havent played with increased TDP or any overclocking over stock.
  8. Uncle Webb posts it in his signature. here is the link from it though. Throttle Stop 7 beta https://www.sendspace.com/file/oquhg3
  9. On PrecisionX the slider to the far right going up the right side from middle of the app user interface to the top ie the right side corner slider is your voltage. Precisionx likes to hide some of the options in silly UI graphics. It works better than any app i used for this though
  10. yes indeed basically. the new vbios will be running the same stock speed at a lower voltage. then you still need to go into evga precisionX app and set power limit to 160% and temp limit to 93°C and link both power limits, there is an option to link the power limits.
  11. I can as well confirm, owning an Alienware 18 myself the haswell motherboard/cpu combo is compatible with DDR3L only. no 1.5v ram but they sell ram sticks that are 1.35v and 1.5v compatible so you can purchase those and use them safely. My Kingston HyperX Impact modules are 1.35v/1.5v compatible and run the 1.35v etc on my system which uses a 4940mx.
  12. From what I know many setups can't run Ubersampling good. Rendering 4 frames per and combining them every 4 frames to produce the image makes a wonderful quality image but it uses 4x the performance standard antialiasing techniques use.. i mean if you want 60fps youd need to be able to run 240fps at the highest anti aliasing available to possibly be able to get 60 in ubersampling. in any case you lose 3 fps per 4 rendered with ubersampling. im sure they will have a better optimized implementation of that if they choose to include it again. Having played it myself it probably could of been optimized in code somewhere because I noticed the same where certain areas had some high fps drops. But the art style of the game is very unique and it does present an interest and unique ambience to the games environment. Being that the series is getting so popular I have a feeling they are putting a lot of work into getting the game running on all ranges of hardware. Looking forward to Witcher 3.
  13. I know what you mean I think they refer to it as a rubber band effect like you say bunch of frames race and then next few chug along and using a frame limiter it fixes that issue.
  14. couldnt agree more it is one of the smoothest OS i used, and last I used was Panther or Leopard it has been awhile. I barely game myself these days as well.
  15. Awesome to hear it Michael I may get a Mac as well some day. Ill always have a PC because I try to keep busy repairing computers and lol the average computer that breaks down is a windows PC haha. I started on a Mac as a kid lol.
  16. if the vbios allows for changing power and temp limit I would use EVGA Precision X app to set your gpu. I know Afterburner hasnt worked for volt control and such for my 880m's
  17. My 880m are working decent in my Alienware 18 but its not stock performance because stock performance was worse than a single 7970m when it started throttling. The vbios which allows to increase the power limit and temp limit for boost is one of the most important parts, making sure the gpu is pasted well as temps are higher than the original 780m due to a couple overheating chips on the 880m 2 to be exact and the fact that the vbios you can get from here designed by Svl7 and JohnKss has a much more reasonable voltage set for stock boost clocks. For me it was 1.018v stock @ 993mhz core. It runs far cooler at 993 set to the more reasonable 1v. They can overclock real high like 780m but temps are worse than 780m and most cant hit the same levels the 780m can hit especially due to this heat from the two large square chips to the outside of the vram on the card. Mine under all gpu tests I have done even do 1020 core at the 1v and never reach the 93c, even after hours of 3dmark scene repeated. I dont use vram overclock for anything but benching so my vram is stock most times, seems to just add to the problem with the overheating chips on the 880m. Sadly though the bottom line and truth of the matter after all that is even if one gets a card that clocks real high and stays cool the drivers from Nvidia are not bringing nearly the same performance we see from the 780m at the same clocks with the same drivers or even older drivers. One has to go far back on the nvidia drivers to get the 880m to perform any closer to the performance we truly should be getting from them. Mr.Fox gave me great advice with the 880m's when I recieved my system and experiencing all the reported issues first hand showed me clearly as reported there is a clear problem with the 880m in where it should be compared to its original implementation as 780m minus 4gb of vram as the 880m is a rebrand with most of them having 8gb vram on board. The problem exists, it can be worked around some but there is no complete fix for the 880m fiasco.
  18. I had used Mx4, Prolimatech Pk1, ICD24, Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra and Pro. I found best results from Coolaboratory Liquid Pro their older product with Ultra right behind and ICD24 right up there in thermal performance. Currently got my 4940mx and dual 880m cores all with Liquid Pro, temps in last few month since I applied it have not waivered or degraded in performance ever since even with heavy loada from XTU etc. I have a new one to try I won in a HWbot HyperX Hot NA OC Takeover. They are sending me a bundle of products not yet available for placing 6th place. Included is a giant jar of Gelid GC Extreme 10G. I will be glad to report results with it when it arrives and I set up a new rig.
  19. my Dell 880m have +150mv available, I use Evga PrecisionX. If there is a updated version of Nvidia Inspector I would try it.
  20. It is proportionate to screen size how much the eye can possibly percieve a pixel.. at 27" no doubt it would be hard to notice a big difference between the two but it is there. I cant say the cost would justify the difference but it depends on ones needs and preferences.
  21. mw86`s wPrime - 32m score: 4sec 851ms with a Core i7 4940MX 49/48/48/48 multiplier says 4.9ghz but it was 4.8ghz in the 8threads.. Getting down there 4.851ms Wprime 32m

    IMAGINE: NEW Clevo Models

Same with mine CL11-14 no go but then again my other timings may have thrown it off but likely my sticks wont do 2400.
  23. Excellent score Ill have to continue tinkering. I got a 4.84 once but failed to get a screenshot so lets say it never happened because no pic. Lets see if this Haswell can atleast match that very cool Godfafa. Mr Fox is right on my tail just above mine. I got my Uncore to 4.8ghz, does Ivy have uncore cache too?
  24. Alien 18 4.8ghz Wprime 32m 4.883 seconds http://hwbot.org/submission/2657304_
  25. That was a horrible decision wow. Thanks J95 It should surely be possible no doubt
