  1. Ok, just take a deep breath. I wasn't blaming you. Just letting you know that the power brick is plenty for normal use. Many laptops in that same class use a 180w power brick with no issues. So, you put am MSI 880m on your Alienware? Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  2. If you aren't overclocking your CPU at the same time the 240w power brick is enough. Besides, when you exceed the limit of your power supply it generally will shut down. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  3. Eh... I was talking about SSD wear, but I get your point on the battery. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  4. The EVO 840 started working again. During my internet digging I found a similar issue with the Crucial M4. It looks like for some reason that removing all power from the system restores functionality. For the system with the M4 removing a/c power and battery did the trick. I moved my EVO 840 to a different laptop and it worked. So I put it back in my Sager. For clarification, by "stopped working" means that I could see the drive in BIOS, but Win 7 could not. It was as if the drive was not installed. When I tried to reinstall the OS the drive was sometimes briefly visible then it would disappear. Very strange. I have been using it for the past week with no issues. I have had this drive since March of 2014, use it for long hours every day. It reports 1% wear. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
  5. Yep, usually print it out. I am old and can't remember stuff.
  6. It's the power cable completely inserted? Sounds stupid, but I have done that.
  7. This is the wrong section. Please post this here: T|I Marketplace
  8. It's the best way to get your 5 posts in as well.
  9. I read something about this specific topic, but I am too lazy to copy/paste it here.
  10. Yes, it will work. Grab the latest Prema bios mod for your P170SM. Make sure you don't get the P170SM-A BIOS mod, as that won't work on a P170SM. See this thread: http://forum.techinferno.com/clevo/3119-%5Bbios-vbios-mods%5D-prema-mod-stock.html It wouldn't hurt to toss Prema a little donation. Prema works very hard on these mods and gets very little in return.
  11. I have had two issues with my P170SM-A purchased in March, 2014. I use this every day for business in not-so-nice industrial environments. It has served me well. 1) Keyboard backlight failed. Contacted XoticPC and they got me in touch with Sager. They promptly shipped a replacement keyboard with a return shipping label. I replaced the keyboard myself instead of returning the whole laptop for repair (my choice). The whole issue was resolved in a timely manner with no issues. 2) My 1TB mSATA EVO 840 died. I am still dealing with this so I will let you know. I did not get the software (game) as advertised. There was a limited time and that time had passed by the time the laptop shipped to me. The key here is when it shipped. I had some extra stuff done that delayed shipping which bumped me out of the free game.
  12. So do you have this up and running? I am looking at doing this at some point and I am really interested. I bought a i7-920xm when I found a good deal last year so I have that already.
  13. I like it! I have a lot of respect for the skill it takes to pull this off.
  14. I must say.... you did really well on that trade. I would love to have an m15x to play with.
  15. That is three times better than my FSX on my P170SM-A w/ 880M.
  16. Its awesome. The EM series gets new life!
  17. That is about 2.62045454545 times faster than my best over clocked score with my P170SM-A and 880M.
  18. The P170EM can now take 900M series cards, but not the 800M series. Or are you needing a faster CPU?
  19. That is 2.24 times better than my best run with my P170SM—A and 800M.
  20. Well I opened them up and it looks like the boards are slightly different. Just a guess on my part... Name: GK104 P2051B SKU 001 Board: GK104 Board - 2051b001 Version: 80.04.5B.00.02 Name: GK104 P2051B SKU 002 Board: GK104 Board - 2051b503 Version: 80.04.33.00.32
  21. It might be the i5. Have you checked CPU load during benchmarks/games?
  22. You are very welcome! Actually, I misspoke. The GPU will only "boost" if the value in the boost table is set higher than the base clock. Setting the base clock on the Common tab lower doesn't keep it from boosting. That being said, if you go to the Boost Table tab and set the Max Table Clock lower than the base clock setting on the Common tab, then the GPU clock will be clamped at the lower boost clock. I tested this and it works. If you want to set the TDP and Base Clock to 823.5 it won't hurt anything. The last test I did was to set the TDP and 3D Base Clocks to 993.0 and the Max Table Clock to 823.5. The highest the GPU would clock was 823.5 I don't think the voltage will matter. From the factory it's set lower than what Svl7 set it in the modded vbios. If you go too low then the card won't start up when you boot. Then you have a whole mess of a problem fixing that unless you can blind flash it or you have an Alienware. It would be a good idea to set your laptop to boot off of a USB flash drive if you decide to mess with voltages. Not recommended and really... not needed.
