I was attempting to blind flash my M18 project, The power tripped at the breaker box (summer in San Diego....east county temps90-107 the last few weeks) Anyway, now it does nothing............absolutely nothing. I think I bricked my mobo . I ordered a new one and I'll swap it when it and my CPU show up. I was able to use a modded bios and Mr Fox's driver package on my M17XR4 and running Win7 w/ a 970M and whats in my sig below. I love that lappy. I really want to love my M18 project. It looks and feels ike a BIG brother to the M17( which is no small slouch). This will be my first mobo swap in a lapttop, I've always done my own work once the laptop is out of warranty..........(even in warranty.........sometimes the rep sent from delllllllll is a bozo with no idea whats what.) question,.. new mobo, bios level? I'm thinking of wiping the ssd and doing a fresh install of win 7 , getting to the unlocked bios (a10 ?) . Would I be better off getting a pair of 780m's for SLI, or go single 970M. I could use some guidance. mahalo nui loa

1st , I need to give major props to Mr. Fox. My M17xR4 runs well I added a 970M and I'm jazzed Mr Fox.you are my new hero!! ( alittle throttling ,but I OC it mildly). Now to my puzzelment,.......Picked up some basket case M18xR2's and put in an 970m, along w/ 32GB of hyperX @2133 , a 3940XM, crucial 920GB C drive , a 512GB Msata along w/ a WD750GB drive(7200). Working w/ Win 8.1 and trying to get thru all the steps for this damn card to work( BTW , I'm not going to SLI unless I go backwards to snag a pair of 680M's) almost drove me to toss this as deep in the ocean as I could on my dives...........maybe deeper. Using a clean install of WIN 7 everything runs great ( I can even run alot of earlier games on the IGFX), ADD the 970M...............8 beeps,pull the card and post's with no issues. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah that's true, I've been reading here , on the Alienware OC and over in Notebook Review and things look dire for my hopes of 970m's in SLI. 980m's are ok, 880's, 780's 680's.......now I'm just bummed. I'll keep diggin and if all else fails , I'll drop 1 970m in my M17XR4 and sell the other.Then I'll scrape up my nickles and look at a pair of 980's.

Has anyone put a pair of 970M's in SLI for the M18XR2? I see 980's here at TechInferno and over in Alienware Owners club. I just am a little lazy and don't want to read a ton of post's. This M18 is my new project to play with. I've already installed a new I7 3940XM , added a 3 pipe heat sink, the CPU and GpU's will get Tuniq4 thermal comp. and the GPU's will have FUJIPOLY Extrm (17w) thermal pads. , 32 Gb hyperx DDR3 @ 2133Mhz , a crucial 512GB SSD msata, a crucial 960Gb SSD , and I'll most likely drop in a 500Gb WD @7200rpm ( for music -my other hobby, seein shows w/ friends and family) need some help

Never mind, found a similar file for the M17 but Alienware was able to get me a code that worked .Once again I own my laptop settings

I know I'm on the M18, but would a similar recovery be available for a M17XR4. My Bios settings are locked. I can get past the start up password and the windows password. I spent 2 weeks disinfecting my rig and got myself banned from the notebookreview site cuz some subhuman troll bas**rd Dropped a bunch of sh*te thru my wifes rig( I finally showed her the reason for not clickin on the damn links in an email.......OMFG, she's a great Nurse.....not so hot w/ trech)If a similar solution would work, I'd be a happy camper

PCS Performance is great (especially since Frozen CPU closedtheir doors) I’ve used IC Diamond 7 and its ok, but with repasting it can scratchthe die. I used Tuniq TX-4 to repaste (Putit in hot water and it spreads easier) and I changed my thermal pads with FujipolyHi Ext 17W pads. They are pricey, but worth it. The 17W pads really helped suckheat away. I cleaned up and also added a better fan (CPU Fan Upgrade/Mod(2CFM->10.4CFM)} mod by AngieAndretti over in the Tech Inferno site. It droppedmy temps by over 15 C on the CPU so I’ve got room to OC. The GPU with new Padsand paste dropped me 12 C. So I’ve got room there also. Check out the differentpads for Watt and thickness. You’ll be a happy camper for sure Brah .<o:p></o:p>

I decided to send back the two 8GB sticks and order another pair of 4GB sticks(still Corsair Vengeance) and while I had the back opened repasted w/Tuniq TX-4 and changed GPU pads w/Fujipoly XR-m Hi Extreme 17W. Posted fine, saw all 4 sticks ,identified them and life is better

System specs are a good starting point, then it seems like you're comfortable getting in and out of your gear so some solutions would make better sense.

Ok, I need alittle help. I'm running 7 ultimate on a M17XR4 . I thought it could take 24Gb? I installed 2 sticks of Corsair Vengence CMSX8GX3M2B2133C11 ( 4GB) and the laptop boots up , sees the Ram and identifies it. When I put in the 8GB sticks it won't power up, runs a couple of seconds and turns off? I put in the 8GB sticks alone, under the keyboard ,in the bottom ,...........same thing. I put the 4GB sticks anywhere and powers up fine. I even added the older 4GB sticks and it still powers up but clocks to the lower ram. I'm getting a tiny bit irritable , the 8GB sticks are not cheap..........unless someone has a great idea , I'm thinking of sending them back or selling them myself and getting 2 more sticks of 4GB. Upgraded the CPU after I modded the fan (M17x CPU Fan Upgrade/Mod (2CFM->10.4CFM)) mod by AngieAndretti. temps are cool and the mod was pretty straight forward. Very happy camper brah<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

My bad Ipo , did the Fan Mod and dropped in an I7-3940XM it's running cool w/ stock clocks and when I leave work I can get online(IT nazi's ) and stress it alittle more. Mahalo nui loa Ipo

Thanks brah , I've looked at your R2 fan mod to get more cfm (10.4) and I like it. that's my next move along w/ an Intel Core i7-3940XM. How is your heat running w/ games at the top end of settings maybe before and after the new fan with stock clocks(along with OC). I have the 2 pipe, so the question is , will the extra air makeup for the new cpu?
