jamesrhine 10 Posted December 1, 2012 Can anyone tell me the highest possible gpu upgrade on msi gt683r?
teuing 14 Posted December 4, 2012 AFAIK it's Radeon 7970M.It's achievable with modding the GPU heatsink(if you have a GeForce GPU) or ordering the one for GX60 (CMIIW)
sgogeta4 41 Posted December 4, 2012 Or an external desktop GPU.
teuing 14 Posted December 4, 2012 There's no Express card slot in GT683R.An external desktop GPU should connected to an Express Car Slot right? (using PE4L or a ViDock)
BAKED 211 Posted December 4, 2012 Well there is a mPCI-e slot for the wifi adapter but I don't know what the speed is.
teuing 14 Posted December 4, 2012 Yes indeed! I forgot that one.I've read on some other forum saying that you can user m-PCIe slot for the Wifi adapter.but that would be impractical
jamesrhine 10 Posted December 16, 2012 will it be possible to use the stock heat sink?
Mike Sullivan 11 Posted December 21, 2012 Not trying to threadjack, but what would be the fastest GPU to put in without modding the heat sink? I had to take mine apart to reapply the thermal paste and realized it would be easy to swap GPU's (and even CPU's)
BAKED 211 Posted December 22, 2012 I think the gtx 675m would be the best possible with unmodified/stock heatsink. I dony think anyone have had success with the kepler ones.

I dony think anyone have had success with the kepler ones. How much of an improvement do you think it would be over my current 560M? I'm always maxed out at 99% GPU usage in BF3...not a big deal, as it isn't getting too hot, but I'd still like to get some increased performance. BAKED 211 Posted December 22, 2012 the gtx 675m would give you a nice performance increase compared to the 560m. the gtx 675m is almost the same card as 580m.

You'll need to buy a new heatsink at the very least if you are upgrading. If you want an AMD card you'll need to either buy a new heatsink and modify or modify an existing one. krzysiek 10 Posted March 11, 2013 Swamping the cpu is very easy and you don't need anything additional to do this (except the thermal paste). In case of gpu than you need to have the right heatsink. I believe that the one from gtx570m is ok.
mamontmkii 10 Posted March 18, 2013 U can upgrade to all cards with 3.0b mxm factor but u must take a right heatsink. But u can use eGPU )
Anteara 10 Posted March 18, 2013 I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the rebranded cards use the same heatsinks.

outland8770 0 Posted February 3, 2016 I have a Dell gtx 770m working with no issue. need to flash vbios and find proper heatsink.

Bloetschkopf 61 Posted February 11, 2016 GTX 980M ist the fastest GPU You can use,You only need to flash the Vbios if it is not a MSI Card. You can use the old Heatsink, but this must be modified. The GTX 970M ist the better Choise,GTX 980M needs to much Power.
CapVice 0 Posted July 25, 2017 I was wondering if anyone has successfully placed an 900 series GPU in the GT683? I upgraded mine from a 570 to a 770 and what an amazing difference not to mention being much cooler running. I was looking at a 970 but haven't actually seen anyone do it online. I know this thread it a bit old but I would love to hear of any success (or lack of) stories. Anyone try a 1060? Thanks!
Bloetschkopf 61 Posted July 25, 2017 The highest GPU is the GTX 980M in GT683(MS-16F2). For this Card You need another Heatsink or You modify Your old one. But for the Thermalpower of this Card is better to use the Heatsink with Cpu Bridge. You also can use HD7970M,but only Rev. 1.2 with Clevo Vbios. I tried last Week the HD8970M from GX60,it doesn`t work. GTX 1060 ist also not working. Between GTX 675M and GTX 980M only the GTX 765M and GTX 770M works. But the GTX 765M not with every Vbios and GTX 770 from Dell only with modded Driver because it is not possible to use the MSI Vbios on it. It bricks the Card.
