I am seeing multiple NVIDIA_DEVs for the 580M online. How do I know which one to change in the driver inf file? I have an Alienware M17x-R3 that had a 580M and now has an 880M (the 0490 one).

Hello J95..went over a lot of info over the internet and you seem like the most helpful person out there. Wondering if you can help me out with an issue i am having.

I recently got a GTX 970m for my Alienware 17x r4 which had 7970m installed previously. I just can't get the graphics card to work.

I am on the A12 BIOS and Windows 7.

Steps taken so far:

1) Removed 7970m from slot, rebooted in safe mode and uninstalled AMD drivers using DDU.

2) Powered down, fixed the new 970m into slot, put everything back together.

3) Booted up and installed the latest nVidia drivers.

4) Can see the graphics card in device manager now but can't run any graphic intensive games.

5) Looked at some forums and changed boot mode to UEFI but that didnt help either.

6) Pressed the "FN+F7" keys and rebooted.

7) Got the dreaded 8 beep, shut down, removed card, booted back up, installed card again and now have laptop working back to when i did not have the drivers installed.

The questions i have for you are (if you have time to answer)

1) Do i have the wrong BIOS version for optimus? I do not see any switchable graphics option enabled in the BIOS screen, just that it detects primary and discreet graphics.

2) Are the latest nVidia drivers not suitable for the 970m on my alienware?

Device ID:

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_05511028&REV_A1

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_05511028

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&CC_030000

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&CC_0300

Please let me know if you need any more info to help me figure this one out.

Thank you.

@J95

I just got online today and would like to ask a favor if you can give me an nv_dispi mod for 355.84 nvidia drivers on MSI GT60 for Windows 10. Here's my 970m hardware ID "PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_110C1462&REV_A1" . I did the inf mod successfully based on this first page you posted. On windows 7 and 8.x it works flawless but I can't seem to make the drivers to work on Windows 10. The drivers installed successfully but In 3d games the HD4000 executes and not the 970m for my nb..

I hope you can help me thanks

Thanks in advance

Hi,

J95, amazing brain you've got, it's great that you're helping others!

I've got an MSI GT70. It has originally come with GTX675, but now upgraded to GTX880. Windows recognises it as basic display adapter.

my device id is: \VEN_10DE&DEV_1198&SUBSYS_05AA1462&REV_A1\4&31a1af22&0&0008

Operation system is Win10, 64bit

bios version: E1762IMS.50N (28/09/2012)

Would I need to update Bios? If so, where can I find the latest one? Found one, but not sure if it's the right one. Created a bootable USB drive using rufus, set device priority, but doesn't seem to boot from it, it boots into windows.

If you got the time and patience please help.

Thanks

MSI GT70 Optimus model?

nvmii.inf/1462 = MSI

Listed

Due to INF error/typo, I've attached INF mod.

  • Win10 -> disable DSE
  • cmd (Admin)
    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

    -> reboot -> F8 -> select 'Disable Driver Signature Enforcement'.

  • Extracted driver package -> Display.Driver folder -> copy/overwrite nvmii.inf (unzip)
  • Extracted driver package -> run setup.exe.
    Geforce 358.59 HF - Win10
    Next time, follow this:
  • Win10 -> disable DSE
  • Display.Driver folder -> open nvmii.inf (notepad) CTRL+H -> Find What: 110F Replace With: 05AA -> Hit 'Replace All' -> save
  • Extracted driver package -> run setup.exe.

Hi

Can anyone help me with modding the inf for 358.50-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql ?

Gtx 970m 6gb

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_51051558

Clevo P150em

Win 8.1 Pro

i have already tried modding nvami.inf

which let me install everything( with driver signing off) but black screen after restart,

tried modding nvci.inf but back to not detecting card /unable to install,

I also tried both of them modded and same result black screen with occasional white dot on bottom left corner on boot up

DDU removed all Nvidia from pc

I'm pretty sure i just havent modded the right inf or not modded it correctly

Any info or advice would be much appreciated.

thanks

Does anybody know how to modify an INF file for a 980m on a Clevo P160SM-A? I'm running Premamod's latest bios and his modified 8gb 980m bios. I reverted to the original, but Windows 10 still sees it as a basic Window display adapter.

Info is: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_51061558

Thanks!

Hi @J95,

I am currently running a M17xR4 (057B) 120hz with 970M-6gB (13D8) on W10-64. I have a 352.84 modded driver I downloaded and that makes the job but not perfect. I experience a lot of 'painful' cold boots (meaning extra long in time + needing or not a new button restart to finally reach Win 10 screen) of the laptop. This is never happening when I do a shutdown-reboot by the way. It is happening wether or not I have a second display plugged by HDMI or mini-display Port.

The above behaviour is quite consistent because I am now running for more than three weeks that way. When I am using the laptop however all is fine.

I would like to make a test in installing the most recent (358.87) driver of nvidia. So I need to modify the .INF but I have no clear idea on how to do it exactly. I downloaded the stock 358.87 driver and also the last driver I found on the dell site and said compatible with 970M + win 10 64 (it is one for the new M17 R3; an update from begining of September).

But now I am hesitating on how to continue, I looked into the files but I am not confident in copy-pasting the ID's and so on. Could you help please ?

NB: I am aware of the issues with LCD bricks but ready to do a test after having safely survived the last month with the 352.84 driver.

352.84 mod...already told woodzstack to link my work instead, 353.06 INFs are useless without the proper files.

Only Optimus models are throttle proof w/ latest drivers...better use 352.84 until Prema releases the new vBIOS fix.

I've updated 352.84 PEG MOD Win10, please follow the new instructions.

Feedback...appreciated
