  1. Yes it is Optimus. Windows 10 has been pissing me off and the latest update was the last straw. I went back to Windows 7. I got 359.12 installed but still had problems getting anything newer. I had missed disabling the integrated video in bios. Once I did that I got 372.90 installed no problem, Thanks J95.
  2. I have an M17X-R3 with an 880M and have used these modded drivers before without issue. The latest Windows 10 update really screwed my laptop up. Once I finally got it installed I was back to the white screen. I pulled the card and got the sound working again and then put the card back in. I am unable to install any of the nvidia drivers without it failing. I have tried the modded 368.25 and the 372.95 but no luck.
  3. I wonder what is causing this then?
  4. Exactly my point. My card isnt a supported one in this system. I installed it and am using a modded driver and unlocked bios which works fine but the Windows 10 compatibility check has some issue with the video card. Mine is an 880M, not an 980M. Originally it was a 580M.
  5. I have an M17x-r3 upgraded with an 880M. I am running the latest drivers as well (353.30). When I run the compatibility check for the Windows 10 upgrade is says it cant be installed on this machine because the 880M wont work. If we upgraded the GPU are we locked out of using Windows 10?
  6. I thought the only inf we modded for the GPU change was the nv_dispi.inf?
  7. I am seeing multiple NVIDIA_DEVs for the 580M online. How do I know which one to change in the driver inf file? I have an Alienware M17x-R3 that had a 580M and now has an 880M (the 0490 one).
  8. I spoke a little too soon. I found out that a number of the games I play would just startup to a black or other color screen and do nothing. I realized that they were all directx games because the non-directx ones worked fine. When I ran dxdiag it also went blank screen. Once I restarted the system and tried dxdiag again it said it had trouble accessing direct sound. I unchecked the signature checking in the dxdiag window and that let it run. I went ahead and ran the commands to disable driver signature checking like the win8 guys have to do (I am running Win7) and so far that seems to have fixed it. The games I could not run before seem fine now.
  9. This thread and the other about getting the IDT sound working again can chalk up another success. I have a M17X-R3 and upgraded my 580M to an 880M with sound working great.
