Update 1: I was updating the wrong nvdmi.inf, no wonder the setup couldn't find any compatible card! My bad!
After following the steps again, the driver got installed. However, upon booting up, all I got was three screens with a black background and mouse cursor. Nothing else... No login screen, really nothing!
I was not able to get into safe mode, as I have forgotten to prepare a Win8.1 USB stick, to remove the driver and attempt another install.
Update 2: I got Win10 installed and proceeded with the same steps. However, the only difference this time round is the driver I have used. I used Mr. Fox's GeForce 345.20 Desktop Driver Mod for Alienware and Clevo Mobile GPUs from NBR. It worked before for me in Win8.1 and in the thread someone have tested it out on Win10 and it worked.
I am glad to say it worked for me too. Will try out the newer drivers when I get the time and might try Mr. Fox's method.
