Thats also a good find, I'll give that a try as well just to see what happens, I tried sleeping it and waking it back up later (unplugged while it sleep, plugged back in then woke it up) and my throttle was back.

Temporary throttling fixes, specific drivers, switching RAM XMP profiles, BCLK, 120Hz always PEG + IGP enabled  (120Hz owners never try this, certain brick >>combination of BIOS settings<<)...basically messing w/  BIOS settings that will force F10 shutdown behavior "reset".

j95 do i copy over just the one inf file stated or both inf files that are in the download you directed m1e to?

    nv_dispi.inf and nvdmi.inf         or just the nv_dispi.inf?

Yep, copy both files. Please follow instructions above...disabling DSE & deleting the proper folders.

    Hello J95,

It seems your quite the busy modder on this forum, and the golden goose.

I am in the process of preparing for a gpu switch in my M17xR3 from a 6970m to a GTX 780m 4gb.

I have already done a clean re-install of windows 10 with the old 6970m completely removed from the system, so no lingering drivers hanging around. only the onboard graphics (intel hd 3000)

everything in windows is working correctly, drivers, programs, etc with no problems. have osd and command center installed.   Did not install intel rapid storage (due to the fact it keep asking me to replace the sata controllers with old ones) Should I? (480gb ssd main drive/ 1tb 7200 rpm mass storage hdd) and flashed to the A12 unlocked bios with sata tweek.

Was wondering if there is a premade modded driver or do i have to edit them specific to my machine? (was hoping there was already a pre-modded driver i could just download and use)

Seems alot of people are already using 780m's in M17xR3's so what hoping to benefit from that...

Thanks in advance for any assistance or insite you can give

Here you go M17x R3 GPU upgrade to gtx 780m

    Instead, use nv_dispi.inf v365.19 above.

    Hey man

Hope you can clarify something for me.

I keep reading about throttling yet I've never faced it myself with my 980m. I did get some throttling with my old 880m but that was solved by flashing to SLV's vbios.

With the 980m, flashed to Prema's vbios, I have never faced throttling on any driver version....

How come others with practically the same setup as mine face severe throttling at time? Could it be hardware related, as in depend on the quality of the GPU itself? (ASIC?...)

    Optimus models normal behavior...

    What is wrong with RTSS?

Nothing wrong, RTSS v6.4.1 lacks DX12 support.

    Hey man.

I still don't understand why you're asking me to increase voltage for Tomb Raider. I was actually able to resolve the issue by disabled Steam Overlay and uncheck the option "Exclusive Fullscreen". I just beat the game tonight and I didn't get a single crash since doing these 2 "fixes".

I am honestly not touching (OC'ing) my 980m until I build my "monster" HTPC in the near future. Just waiting for the Pascal GPUs and if the rumors are right we might very well see a Titan grade GPU in April-May and a Ti grade GPU by June. I guess we'll know if it's right or not by next week! A part of me is actually praying AMD's lineup is better but I seriously doubt that'll be the case...

I've got the $$$ ready for the Titan purchase... I want that baby to last me at least 3 years and to be able to finally game in 4k on my TV.... *fingers crossed*

I thought you were overclocking the GPU, just used steam overlay once...bandicam fps overlay.

@J95 I used the Windows 10 PEG inf file from your post and I used Prema V2 Vbios --> GTX980M_8GB_MXM_OC_PM_v2 when I tested the driver and I got instant power throttle, this is after rebooting and everything.

Don't install v364.51. Instead, flash Prema v1.1.1 before installing Win10 throttle free PEG mod 352.84.

@J95 You're right it was just a temporary fix as it throttle again after the cold boot. Reinstalling the drivers seems to fix the driver somewhat till next day when all things go back to normal again (throttling) :logik:

My friend's notebook with 780M SLI still working good tough.

Unfortunately...to fully restore this you need to install previous drivers -> reboot -> DDU -> reinstall 364.51, just reinstalling 364.51 won't work.

@Tulius Please ask your friend (780Ms) to perform a cold boot like above, holding clocks without issues...OCing.

Yes, got the 120Hz screen now (the last upgrade this time). The 364.51 seems to work ok with no throttling for me too. I am running svl7 vbios though, not Prema version.

First screen is for 361.91, second one - 364.51. No throttle on both versions after restarts, cold boot etc for me, however I did not try cmos reset or PSU disconnect/battery removal yet.

Nice upgrade, there's no way back anymore! Never reset CMOS without a 'backup' card, defaults are UEFI/CSM (GUID partition table detected) instead of full UEFI. Cold boot, just remove the battery and power cable for 5 minutes.

Something is different with this driver because although throttling apparently dimmed, gpu utilization also decreased in some games

Observed good results with SLI 780M also in M18X-R1

    980M GPU1.jpg

@Tulius thanks man, please try removing the battery and power plug as explained above (cold boot) to rule out "temporary fix".  If it doesn't hold clocks anymore you can easily restore this by installing previous driver(?) rebooting then uninstall/DDU and finally reinstalling 364.51. I've posted many temporary fixes,  let's see if it behaves different this time.

    @mariussx  M17xR4 120Hz screen upgrade? If so please try installing 364.51 (Prema V2)...including M18xR2's @anarky321 , @82280zx

I guess I'm not sure whats I'm doing wrong?

    I've followed your guide,

    I did the following:
Updated my Vbios to PREMA V2

    I did a DDU, Rebooted

Then I ran this under a admin command prompt

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

I then proceeded to reboot the system and disable driver signing, then I extracted the new drivers using 7 zip, I replaced inf files in the display folder with the modded ones from your post, removed the folders that I didn't need from the driver folder as listed above, I then installed the driver, I then updated my profiles in nvidia inspector with the new PEG Mod Profiles V6, and set them to default, double checked tasks in task scheduler, rebooted after all the changes and then I ran a benchmark, according to GPU Z my gpu's being throttled way back due to power? I'm pretty sure I did everything in your guide, what did I miss? I also have the task in task scheduler imported for the PEG Mod to fire nvidia inspector when I log in, (imported the one you had or followed the PEG guide). Any help would be appreciated.

Prema V2, please try installing v364.51 above using the proper nv_dispi.inf.

It seems incredible but please someone confirm this? With this driver  GeForce 364.51 and Prema 2.0 980M SLI flashed in M18X-R2 , throttling is gone in games I tested like Ryse and Witcher 3 and even in 3DMark test the gpu clocks don't decreased in benhmark test. Tested again in Sniper Elite 3 2560x1080p 4x supersampling and 98% utilization from both gpus and no throtte is occuring.

Actually is hard to believe that Nvidia finally made some decent drivers since forever...

    Both cards ASIC Quality?

Try  removing power cable and battery -> wait 5 minutes -> reinsert battery and power cable. Hopefully it's not temporary...

Valley best FPS since 350.12.  NV trying to compensate for previous drivers Fiasco...gimping performance?...
