  1. Hi brother Fox thanks a lot cool. Will post pics and update how the build went. Also have lots to share about ram overclocking attempts. Have 2x4gb 2400mhz cl12 hyperx running stable Thanks so much Cheers!!
  2. using 880m sli in Alien 18 I recommend choose another high performance card. 1 980m perhaps? might equal stock 880m sli performance The 880m do get hot for the work and 980m gets about the performance of 880m sli with half the power draw!? Good to see ya @deadbydawn
  3. Hello sorry for late reply, which ram stick did you need spd from. If you still are tinkering on your ram I would be glad to help.
  4. After experiencing Alien 18 first hand on the complete failure in EC fan design this generation I am switching to Clevo build. I have my Alien 18 and love the feel of it but overall for function the Clevo replacing it will do work at a far larger scale than what my Alien 18 desktop replacement is able. The Alien 18 nice indeed but not a true work horse especially that the system could use to have an extra 100 watts available to power what they sell them with at the highest tier of the mobile market. I will always keep my Alienware and love it but it is aside as a secondary workstation now and not my primary. Main reasons are lack of proper power for the components which they lose their true potential because of and the fact that haswell is a furnace and the sad excuse of auto fan control fails at every step to properly defend the cpu from extreme heat. Love my Alienware but I am sure I will love the Clevo as well. Both imo are great companies and have thier benefits. I can say Alienware has an amazing bios in all the generations I have utilized. M17x R2 -> M18X R1 -> Alien 18 cheers
  5. Thank you for your wonderful inisght! I am picking up a Panther 5 with 4960x and this is very appreciated. Hope all is well Khenglish. I finally managed 2400mhz ram dual channel on my Alien 18 w/4940MX Cheers!
  6. I am running 2400mhz on HyperX impact 4gb DDR3L sodimm on 2 2133mhz sticks for dual channel on my Alien 18 on 4940MX but it only allows me to do so because stock Alien 18 bios has up to 2666mhz available. Panther 5 on the way and 4 sticks of the same ram to attempt similar on Quad Channel but on a 4960X on a Eurocom. Alien 18 didnt have XMP either, so just got lucky they put 2666mhz into the bios. Using stock 1.35v as expected. Had to edit and flash ram spd table to have 2400mhz run on the ram since stock spd table for the chips is 2133mhz max.
  7. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but ill try to answer a few of these. 1 should be plug and play I think being came from another Alienware. 2 using the unlocked bios is always good on the R1. You have access to a lot more and pertaining to gaming just one example is ability to turn of Bi-directional Prochot which can throttle gpu/cpu performance. 3 unsure you if they can drop right in from R2 but I would imagine they would ( still confirm fit) 4 I have reused thermal pads and dont often see degredation of their performance, reusing paste is always a no no on the other hand. 5 yes all stock you would have enough power to power SLI 780m + 2960xm all stock. overclocked will have to balance cpu and gpu clocks as completely maxed out 780m could exceed 330w power adapter with a somewhat overclocked cpu. 6 no i would leave cpu paste till it needs it, might get worse temps and have to repaste more than once to get it just right, better left alone till necessary if temps are good. 7 yeah mx-2 should be sufficient for 780m
  8. @Genetics had a similar issue using Alien 18 and MSI. Flashed on MSI the 880m and would not work in the Alien 18. Not sure if related figured it important to mention
  9. i had to do same on Alien 18 yeah they failed at that ec pretty good lol. Thankfully Mumak has Alien fan control as you say
  10. i won some Gelid Extreme get to use it soon as a part arrives. Im guessing it is pretty good and it is much less risky than liquid metal lol
  11. Id love to if someone close to me didnt need a PC, trying to take care of my loved ones otherwise it would be an easy swap :D wish I could Jaybee83 if things change Louis would be first to know
  12. it also comes down tp the amperage supplied on the power rails like 12v power rail its amperage rating is important

    p570wm sli 980

Wow sent a gift US -> Canada I guess it may be delayed as well. :/ lol oh well ce la vie if I wrote that correct..

    p570wm sli 980

that sucks but you got them now right? wow good to note about customs wow.
  15. lol I have an 18 am gifting to someone close to me, I myself would lean towards the type of build you have than the one I have now. 4940mx/2133DDR3L HyperX Impact Dual Channel/ 880M Sli/ 3 sata 6gbs ssd (one in optical bay) and msata ssd, all raid 0 together if one prefers. Use my optical drive in an external caddy. But it is no 6core desktop cpu nor is it quad channel. The cooling is decent in Alienware but not when they mess up the fan table. Alien 18 fan table hopeless unless stock no OC. Using Coolaboratory Liquid Pro was almost a must on these gpu and cpu. We have no hardware max fans toggle i thought that laptop does? HWiNFO was only saviour to cooling problems if you OC on Alien 18. Plus 57watt cpu vs cough 140 watt?!?! Lol just saying that is quite a beast and from this perspective and that setup vs this one 570 > 18
  16. Alien 18 i think is claimed to Work 980m but it must be installed UEFI and ran in UEFI with Windows 8
  17. as mohsen said, NEVER use Liquid Pro or Ultra on Aluminum i forget the other metal may be Nickel it breaks it down chemically as far as liquifying aluminum
  18. 4790k $307 and was $331 after tax going towards a build I am ultimately gifting to my Mother.
  19. Yeah they really put off a lot of heat. Selling to someone close to me for almost nothing my Alien 18 want this person to have a nice premium system. Ill be keeping busy on a desktop from the parts I won and a 4790k for some nice fun. See what Devils Canyon is all about then give that to my mother so she has a newer system probably not need one for years to come. Think Ill get a Clevo type build if they ever succeed at putting the crazy 5960x with DDR4 in one. I definitely found you can do more at less mhz Louis, try a baseclock overlock on stock ram timings for faster ram and drop your multiplier to hit your target mhz. example 102.2or higherbaseclock and 44x for 4.5ghz around or 104.3baseclock at 43x for 4.5ghz. or target 4.4ghz or 4.6ghz but you may not need a high mhz if you can get your ram around 2200mhz baseclocking and wouldnt need to raise mhz or volts to gain more cpu performance. check on physics score improves dramatically at the same cpu speed compared.
  20. this is true. some also have better Ram handling as well. My 4940mx on Alien 18 does great but needs more volt than Mr Foxs es 4930mx but I run it on 2133mhz ram and some cant get higher than 1866 on haswell Alien 18 etc from what I have heard. So its hard to say. Me I am very satisfied with how mine performed. If I go 4ghz all cores intel Xtu id need near 1.2-1.18v with my ram 2133. if you use slower ram it can make the volt requirements lower or vice versa. Like you and me Godfafa getting just about 1100 points in XTU i only needed about 4.36ghz to do that on my 4940mx i hadnt seen that low a clock on a similar setup get that kind of score but ram was at 2220mhz up from 2133 and at CL11. But in that setup i needed nearing 1.3v where as using less amperage and wattage settings like closer to stock and or slower ram 4.3 only needed 1.23v or less but higher ram 4.3 2133 needed 1.26. i only compare volts and mhz at XTU type loads and run a few tests in a row to be like a worse case heat scenario, the bench runs hotter than the test. Anyway thats why my volts may sound high but it performs very well. Cloudfire so yes it comes down to Silicon lottery but you may find great results with your 4940mx. some of them may be less efficient but you may find they handle more abuse or higher ram you never know. 4940mx Alien 18 @4368mhz @1.3v @ 1097 score XTU pretty efficient run. http://hwbot.org/submission/2638455_mw86_xtu_core_i7_4940mx_1097_marks
  21. you can't apply static voltage like on Alien 18 haswell @Prema ? asking because I didnt know and am shocked. Using adaptive or dynamic voltage offset you can go up but like you say not down below stock volt but for me if I set to static voltage only I can undervolt as low as would brick the motherboard lol. Is bios or motherboard limitation??
  22. yeah my typo meant overclocked as you figured. Okay Ill look for your temps buddy and maybe consider the prema bios after posting average temps and seeing how hot it all is getting HWiNFO is great for that . It definitely isn't normal behaviour that is happening. Try downloading resplendence softwares "Who Crashed" after install open app and hit analyze, please paste the contents here to show more of the bsod's your having could be graphics driver or a driver it definitely seems like hardware issue being that it happens as you say in windows and linux
  23. bro excited to see pic but too small for me to read anything. are you saying vs win 7 physics dropped -500 points?
  24. holy #!&* nice job bro, very cool Louis1978uk amazing run congrats and enjoy your beast.
