  • 15" ASUS N53SN + R9_390X@4Gbps-mPCIe2 (EXP GDC Beast) + Win10 [Doink]

    Doink

    Notebook

    CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM

    RAM: 4x2GB 1333MHz

    iGPU: Intel® HD Graphics 3000

    dGPU: Nvidia Geforce GT550m

    eGPU: ASUS STRIX-R9390X-DC3OC-8GD5-GAMING

    OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit

    EXP GDC Beast

    Preparation

Prepare the pcie memory (you have 2 options):

    • Mod your bios and then you can disable the dGPU, set your TOLUD to 2.25GB and change the pcie port2 speed to gen1. ( guide )
      - You can disable the dGPU in the unlocked Chipset tab -> System Agent (SA) Config -> Graphics Config -> iGPU Port configuration = Disabled, and set the Primary display to IGFX
      - Chipset tab -> Memory Config -> Max TOLUD = 2.25GB
      - Chipset tab -> CougarPoint (PCH) Config -> PCI Express Config -> PCI Express Root Port 2 -> PCIe speed = Gen1
    • Do DSDT override and you will disable the dGPU from Setup 1.30

    - You can change the pcie port speed back to gen2 after everything works.

    - Remove your old AMD driver with DDU

    - Install Setup 1.30

    Disassembly

The wifi mPCIe port is located under the caps lock LED so you have to get rid off the top cover of the case.

Optibay users can cut off the slim part of the bay to get enough space for the hdmi cable.

    post-39777-144950011898_thumb.jpg

If you have any problems with the disassembly just follow this video:

Asus done some wierd mPCIe implementation on this notebook so you have to isolate PIN 22 on the GDC Beast mPCIe connector. (more info from sNullp)

You can find the mPCIe pinout here: PCI Express Mini Card (Mini PCIe) pinout diagram @ pinoutsguide.com

I just used electrical tape to solve this problem, luckily the neighbour pins are unused so you have enough space for the *magic*.

If you don't do it your timing on the GDC Beast won't work (no long green light near the switches) and you can't bypass the POST screen hang with egpu connected -> setup 1.3 never detects your eGPU. (windows will after sleep-plug-wake but with error 12 so its a dead end)

Set the switches on the EXP GDC to CTD 6s and PTD 14s.

Plug all the cables in and fire up the system.

Wait at the os selection page until the green light goes off and the egpu fans starts to work.

    Enter Setup 1.3 and

    1. if you used the bios mod you can simply PCI Compact -> igp+egpu
    2. if you done the DSDT override you simply Video Cards -> dGPU off, PCI Compact -> 56.25GB -> igpu + egpu -> force igpu to 32bit

Chainload to your os and start windows.

Install the Radeon driver, don't reboot with egpu connected (POST hangs with amd gfx), always do shutdown-restart instead.

If everything goes, no freezes, no random disconencts then try setting the mPCIe port speed to Gen2.

With the default renderer i get ~25-28fps in every video setting, using the -DX11 arg 60-90fps on highest settings.

    Not Stable!

I currently have random connection issues even on Gen1 speed, the screen hangs for 2-3sec and then usually amd driver restores the egpu.

This happens usually after 1-2 hour if im in one game but in 3dmark i can't run all the tests at once at gen2.

So no random fps drops only random gpu drops :)

    Update:

    Same issue with PE4C-PM060A V3.0.

Thanks for @nando4 helping out with the PIN22 idea and ofc for the awesome Setup1.3 program.

Are you solve problem with random connection issues? I have same notebook - ASUS N53SN and same problem. But i use Gen2 and NVIDIA GTX960. And don`t use DYI eGPU 1.30, only bios mod(with unlocked Chipset tab).

I wish to ask if you guys reduce your RAM to only 2 Gb? Windows 7 could detect the Graphic card. however once I updated to Windows 10 it won't even detect anymore.

@Alexey  try with a different psu if you can, i ended up in this thread. Forcing clock speeds with MSI Afterburner and putting things far away from each other works fine for me. It only crashes if i plug something into an electric socket in my room like a notebook charger. So its not related to gen1/gen2, i am using it on gen2 speed.

@Mitchbong no, if you lowered your TOLUD or went on the dsdt override route then there is no point to use only 2gb ram is you have more.

Tried everything as well couldnt get it to work on my asus N53SV.

I asked ****** the creator of the setup 1.3x for some advice. He said "

If you've done all of them there is a strange one where changing to a UEFI boot allows eGPU detection on an ASUS system

iii) eGPU still not detected on ASUS systems
Do a Windows UEFI install and change bios from legacy/CSM to UEFI. This initialized the devices differently. SRC: Davide Preziusi "

The only thing I didnt try was the UEFI install because i dont have a windows 10 disc. If anyone attempts it and manages to get it working olease let me know.

Hi everyone. Is this topic still alive?

Yesterday I tryied to Mount a GTX 750ti ti my Asus n55sf, but I had to mod the BIOS, as here illustrated, and I bought setup 1.35 from ****** Evan, but I can't make It work. I followed this guide and ******'s One without succes. When I boot Windows It Just remain stuck on Windows logo. Once in safe mode the PC recognized the egpu and I installed the drivers, but when I rebooted, It stucks again. Thank you very much, expecially to Doink, Who shared his experience and knowledge.

actually, I forgot to mention that, I could bypass that blue screen error but in cost of disabling my 2xUSB3 and my Qualcomm LAN network. try this:

    boot in safe mode

    open device manager

in the system device section find this

             **Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System**

    then uninstall it

after that, your system will restart and then windows will run in normal mode, and then you can install your GPU driver.

I personally install a GTX 650ti and already have tested in Heaven benchmark and got some good results.

but when you do this, every time you boot the laptop with eGPU mounted, LAN and 2xUSB wouldn't work

but if you disconnect eGPU, your LAN and 2xUSB will work perfectly.

    pls help me underestand this

hello to all eGPU Workers out there :D.

I am happy cuz I finally figured out how to make EXP GDC work on my ASUS n55SF.

    follow these steps:

1.mode your bios so you can access in chipset configuration in bios setup(you need to follow some weird and complex step for it just google it).

2.all steps are like n53 model but the only thing is different is where you change your type of GPU (chipset-->graphics setting) instead of using iGFX, put that value to PCI , and then save ,plug in your eGPU and then you can boot in to windows normally without any problem so you can install your eGPU driver and .... like other guides .

    3. no need to any change on EXP GDC himself(start before laptop start or start delay ....)

THE IMPORTANT THING IS YOU NEED AN EXTERNAL MONITOR FOR THIS TO WORK !!!! REMEMBER THIS,

AFTER CHANGE THAT iGFX TO PCI YOU SHOULD PLUG A HDMI TO YOUR eGPU SO YOU CAN WATCH UR LAPTOP BOOT FROM UR EXTERNAL MONITOR

4 days and nights none stop reading testing (over 100 times restarting laptop :(  ) takes for me to finally find this.

if this solution works for you, repost this instruction in your own language so other people around the world can use this.

personally install ASUS ROG STRIX 1080Ti

and tested the following games at full settings:

    DMC 5 (max setting)

    Mafia 3 (max setting)

Resident evil 2 remakes (have some problem with this I don't know why even this game use the same engine like DMC 5) (only low setting)

    skyrim special edition (max setting)

    metro 2033 (max setting)

metro the last light (max setting)

ace combat 7 skies unknown (max setting)

    Dota2 (max setting) 60fps V-sync

CS:GO this game has an issue like Re evil 2 totally laggy...

Hi guys, bit of a rookie to the whole EGPU scene. Currently I have:

      - MacBook Pro 2015 13inch (3.1GHz Core i7 16GB RAM)
      - Razer X Core
      - Apple TB3 to TB2 Adapter
      -  TB2 Cable (Cable Matters)
      - 23inch AOC External Monitor

I am wonder about what graphics card to get to run X-Plane11 with high graphic settings?
I have purgewrangler set up and ready to use with an AMD graphics card, but am also open to the idea of an Nvidia graphics card.
Any advice appreciated. I did not buy a Windows PC as I need a Mac for various other things and wanted an all-in-one laptop.

I have always been a big fan of Windows 7. I have 4 Media PCs throughout my house and a laptop. I have recently updated some of them to Windows 10 Pro. I have tried everything to get them talking on my LAN. I cannot share files anymore. They all ping, but are missing in the network folder. Thank God for Plex. Any advice?

To anyone wondering about eGPUs on M6700s, its not too complicated, there is just a process that must be done on boot every time:
You need to have the eGPU connected and powered on before booting the laptop, once you get to the Intel RAID screen disconnect the eGPU and wait for windows to load up, once windows is loaded reconnect the eGPU and you *should* be able to use it and be able to hot-swap it (though you should disable it in windows before unplugging it) installing the normal AMD drivers worked fine for me, though the original release of Adrenaline 19.1 blue screened the first time.
I usually run with 3 1080p monitors attached to the 480, replaced my old i5 desktop with this laptop due to the convenience of storing everything on one machine, the laptop has a 256gb SSD and 2x 750GB hdds in raid 0, there is a 2TB WD black attached to the eSATA on the dock.
eGPU and external HDD are powered by a 500W evga desktop ATX psu, the EXP GDC's ATX power adapter was clunky and broke while trying to use it, so I just plugged in a CPU 4 pin cable upside down to power it, not worried about it because the bulk of power is coming from the 8 pin on the GPU anyway.

The GPU works, The PSU works, The system works. [individually they all do work]

The system works perfectly fine without the WLAN card.

When i put the system to sleep and hotswap the mPCIe riser and WLAN press something on the keyboard.. Restarts.
Will shutdown in roughly 27 seconds for those 27 seconds it works just fine like how it normally would on external monitor.

When i shut it down and plug the riser and switch it on, same story. 27 seconds.

I don't even see a error. I get to login screen directly. I used DDU already.

I timed it. no matter what i do if i use the eGPU, External monitor it restarts instead of pause-play. I have 27 seconds.

      Need help!
