mw86
Just wanted to post my benchmark from 3DMark11 (GPU 1000/1600) (CPU 40,39,38,38) AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P6879 3DMarksScore P6879 3DMarks Graphics Score 6603 Physics Score 8672 Combined Score 6907 Since there is no R4 thread for benchmark, move as needed Nice bench run mikecacho. Welcome to Tech Inferno looking good there. I like how your running your cpu like a 2900/3900XM - - - Updated - - - Im using the VBIOS that widezu69 made available in another post here:[Guide] 580m GTX throtting fix. No need to modify system Bios. When i installed the card it smelled very badly of burnt electronics but i thought nothing of it....Im going to try and reach Dell for a replacement but anyone who has dealt with their tech support knows that its almost impossible to get good help from them...they will say "its your drivers" or "u need to reinstall windows" to date I have a bluetooth module that has never worked right from delivery and they refuse to replace it pointing to my windows installation as the issue....I'm fairly educated and have over 12 years experience in IT Support - I'm a harware compatibility tech for Western Digital's product testing labs, i know hardware fairly well and can tell when something is behaving oddly.....(sorry about the rant but I've had many many bad experiences with Dell support over the years) Thanks everyone for your input and direction - it is much appreciated.....in the meantime I'm going to roll back to previous drivers. Did you ever get your system working properly? Im just curious since its been a long time since you posted this. We all would be glad to assist you? Levan Shalamberidze
guys, I think we should also discuss with which video drivers we achieve highest results? because some of posts as I noticed contain modded .inf, please, post your driver version alongside with screen so that others may improve their scores as well. thanks! godfafa
I can go 4.7 with adding volt.but as you've guessed right, yes there is a power train limit in the mobo. For m17x R4, it is stuck at 68w for xm cpu. That's why it is very important to get a good CPU to get the most within 68w.Some 3940xm can be only OCed to 4.2~4.4 in R4. Some better cpu than mine can get into 4.6.Mine get to 4.5. (actually it can be OCed to 4.7 but d/t power limit it throttles)
blinder275
I did a 1024MB run with WPrime 1.55 today and while the mult was nearly at 26x the entire time and the CPU at 2600 mhz, the time to complete it was far below an optimized 920xm that's got the use of TS. Can those of you with 2720/2820 CPU's run wprime 1.55 1024MB with 8 threads and post your results here?

ShatteredX
Another R4 result: 980M on Windows 8.1 353.30: 358.50: As you can see, there was a 25% (!) drop in performance with the latest driver. Anyone on Windows 8 with a 980M recommend a driver giving them the best results? 353.30 and 347.09 have given me the best results of recent drivers. EDIT: Switched to J95's 353.00 PEG MOD drivers and have no throttling. Will attempt some OC later.
