  1. Thanks for the reply. That is quite interesting with those GPU core repair videos. I am tempted to just sell the 1070 MXM for scrap but I will have to investigate Taobao perhaps...
  2. Thanks for the reply. Upon closer inspection of the 1070, I have discovered the problem. I crushed off the edge of the GPU core during heatsink installation. The 1070 is destroyed. I think today I shall retire from laptop modding :-)
  3. Thankw An0npl4y. I actually went ahead and bought a 1070 MXM. It's a N17E-G2-A1 but hardware revision is 1.0, not 1.2 like yours. ebay seller says it's from MSI G65 SLI system. I modded my 680M heatsink and installed the card. Unfortunately, it will not POST. I was already running a 980M perfectly. BIOS is set to UEFI with Load Legacy ROM disabled. I have 120hz screen. First, I was getting five beeps. Now I'm getting 8 beeps (LCD failure?). When I put my 980M back in, everything boots up fine. Do you think I need a different vbios on the 1070? Or maybe it's actually broken? Any ideas? Thank you.
  4. Hi An0npl4y, excellent modding work, thank you for the post. I am curious about the MXM connector modification. Did you simply cut those side pieces off using a dremel like with the chassis support? I am wondering if you could elaborate on that at all. I am considering attempting this mod on my own M17x R4. Thanks.
  5. Any 980M owners have throttling tips for Windows 10? My Firestrike score was great on Windows 8 but I'm stuck at 8600 on Windows 10. I've tried the Hibernate trick and also Nvidia Inspector clocks. I might try re-pasting this weekend.
  6. @J95 Just installed 368.25 and ran Firestrike. I got the highest score ever for my M17xR4 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12889451 This is with a +225 Core / +400 Memory OC. I did have to use the Hibernate trick in order to prevent throttling. I'm also using 330w PSU as I suspect my 240w may be causing throttling too but I'm not sure.
  7. @J95 I'm getting an error trying to import Full_Profiles_11_v353.00.txt in Windows 8.1 for my 980M. Error says "Profile(s) could not imported!" Full_Profiles_10 works fine though. Thanks for all your work
  8. Hi all, just a quick note: Finally installed the 353.00 PEG MOD drivers by J95 for my 980M. After a couple quick tests, I have no throttling at all at stock clocks even with Azalia Enabled! See below for stock Firestrike score: Very satisfied to have no throttling even at stock clocks with Azalia enabled. I'll try some overclocking again soon. Many thanks to J95, Prema and others for their amazing work!
  9. I finally was able to spend time and install Prema's vbios on my m17x r4/980M. Here's my best overclock score on firestrike with default voltage (+130 core/+525 mem): I tried increasing voltage +37.5 mV to OC more but immediately got throttling with just the added voltage. I'm satisfied with the performance right now. My only disappointment is having to have Azaelia disabled (no sound from speakers) to avoid throttling. Strangely, I was able to get a Firestrike score around 8200 with no OC/stock vbios a couple months ago with Azaelia Enabled, no throttling at all. For some reason, I can't seem to avoid throttling at all with azaelia enabled anymore, even with no OC.
  10. Another R4 result: 980M on Windows 8.1 353.30: 358.50: As you can see, there was a 25% (!) drop in performance with the latest driver. Anyone on Windows 8 with a 980M recommend a driver giving them the best results? 353.30 and 347.09 have given me the best results of recent drivers. EDIT: Switched to J95's 353.00 PEG MOD drivers and have no throttling. Will attempt some OC later.
  11. CPU: Upgrade to i7-3940XM. $400 on ebay for a 5% performance increase. Might be fun if you enjoy overclocking though. PSU: Upgrade to 330W? Probably only if you're seriously overclocking your 980M. You've got the A11 unlocked bios so you're one step ahead of me in that arena
  12. Yeah you need a usb Bluetooth dongle that's specifically supported by DS3 tool. I don't think it supports any internal Bluetooth solutions. I have the TBW-106UB and it works great with my DS3 + ds3 tool. Only gripe is that the plastic started to separate from the USB end after a while so I had to super glue it back together.
  13. Check eBay. Looks like someone is selling them for $620 right now. You can get a 980M for $100 more, seems like a no brainer to me once you're shelling out that much money. I just put a 980M in my M17xR4 and it works great.
