braised_beef
hey guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but the v7.0 exp gdc is better than the version 6 right? I mean, its got to be as it is a generation 3 pcie compared to the v6.0 generation 2... so basically the only thing that flops on the v7.0 is the placement of the power and that the usb has been removed, am I correct? jacobsson
@jjmuffinsNope, you won't get higher bandwidth than 1.2 (5Gbps) using EC / mPCIe. The V7 is prepared to some more interfaces as the M2, maybe even thunderbolt via an extra board, not sure about the details about the latter though. l7ocHoliday
@I7ocHolidayWho are you replying? I didn't find the original post about VR. Thanks! Edit: I do think VR has a great future in compact setups as the eGPU Yes, for being mobile and trying to hit a high frame rate really pushes the latest MBP. This type of setup will hopefully remove the GPU restrictions and hit 75fps for the DK2. Hope that will help the current project I'm working on not make certain people sick. I no longer seem to be affected by the slower fps which makes me feel like I've got my VR Sea Legs
Cain_enD
Lol, remember doing this schematic for EXP GDC 6-pin cable once: - - - Updated - - - . Ok basing on Your scheme and knowledge I found over the internet, I create my own version of cable. Splitter Male-2xMale 6pin See Photo. I wish to hook up GTX 660ti. Brom
Hi, I've problems with the usb port of the EXP GDC. When I connect my Logitech G13 (it's like a keyboard) it reconnects all the time and I can't use it. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? jacobsson
@BromWeird as it sounds I think the USB is a low powered one (drawing power straight from the EC/mPCIe bus), even though it should be down converted from the main power rail. Have you tested a thumb drive or some other low power devices?

I have to admit I'm a bit hung over atm... The important part is that you end up with 12V on the lower row and GND on the upper row, do you have a multimeter to check? I would never test the cable live w/o double/triple check it with multimeter: 1. Check that all lower rows are 12V 2. Check all upper rows are GND 3. Check all GND's are not connected to any 12V (you will get GND connected to GND, that's alright) Nice job btw!
zarun
Hi everybody,I'm new in this community so first I will introduce myself. This is Felipe from Spain, I just saw this wonderful forum about egpu and I want to try it by myself. I spent a lot of hours reading and I guess that EXP GDC is the cheapest solution right now. I have a MBA (late 2012) with 4Gb RAM and Im planning to use a GTX 760 from PNY. I bough from Ebay a Sonnet adaptor (Sonnet - Echo ExpressCard/34 Thunderbolt Adapter) to convert from Thunderbolt to Expresscard. Next step is to buy the PCIE adaptor itself. As I saw in this thread I can trust in Yoybuy but it is a little complicated to me since my Chinesse is not very good, hehe. My idea is to buy the adaptor, an enclosure and the PSU and I add to the cart the following:- Adaptor + PSU? Actually this is my main problem, I'm not sure is Dell PSU is included. (http://www.yoybuy.com/en/show/37090263024/?s=t)- ATX adaptor (ATX TO EXP GDC)- Enclosure (EXP GDC)Is there any additional thing I should buy? Thanks for your support and this great community. Have you tested a thumb drive or some other low power devices?A now tested thumb drive works flawlessly, I could read with 28MB/s. So it really seems to be too less power for the G13. Probably I'll try to get a powered usb hub later.
zarun
Hi everybody, I have been looking for his kind of gadget since long time back and finally google brought me to this great community. Since I'm new first I'll introduce myself. My name is Felipe and I'm from Spain. I have a MBA (late 2012) with 4gb RAM and a HD4000. I usually trip a lot so I needed something to improve the graphics to play hard resources consuming games. After some hours reading I understand that better choice right now is EXP GDC. I will use it with a 770GTX from PNY so I'm planning to buy below items: - EXP GDC V7 with dell PSU included (confirmed by Yoyplay). - Metal Enclosure. - ATX PSU adaptor. I posted before but it is still not published, I supposed because I add some links. Anyway, I'm very impatient and I just ordered everything, I hope I have not done any mistake since I read 49 pages of this thread carefully!! I ordered through yoybuy. For the case I chose 1,1 kg and for the V7 + PSU 2kg as suggested by jacobsson and DHL for the delivery (166$). I will keep you updated. Thanks for this great forum! Darvon
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know, I had an issue attempting to buy the GDC v6 EC with power supply from YoyBuy since Nando mentioned it had a better setup going for it. Two things actually went wrong. First off, I never realized that when I went to the gdc v6 page (first product listed on here: http://www.yoybuy.com/en/product/search?keyword=exp%20gdc), it would change to the v7 for some reason with 476 available which is different from the other one (the real v7) with the same price but twice as many available. So yeah, I had it ordered and a few days later, I get a message from Yoybuy saying it is out of stock?Regardless, if anyone knows why this is happening, I would be glad to hear about it. I really do want the v6 and would be happy to buy it off someone if they were offering.
jjbron
- Buy the ATX adapter from Cloudhero- Plug the 8-pin end of the ATX adapter into the EXP GDC 8-pin port - Plug the 20-pin ATX power cable from your PSU to the 20-pin port in the ATX adapter- Whatever you do, do NOT plug anything into that square 4-pin on the ATX adapter, it'll either melt like Coyote's, or the EXP GDC will switch on and off immediately after boot / not switch on at all - depending which way you plugged the 4-pin in. Leave it unplugged. (And someone should really tell Cloudhero)- Connect a 6-pin PCIe power cable from your PSU into the 6-pin EXP GDC port, the one on the end. Yes normally you would use that port to plug in the 2-way 6-pin cable into your graphics card - Don't.- Now use another 2x PCIe power cables 6/8-pin (depending on your gfx card) from your PSU to plug into your graphics card. You may not have enough PCIe plugs here so you might have to be creative and use flat 4-pin power to PCIe adapters.Hoping someone could clarify using an ATX PSU. My gpu (560 ti) needs two 6pins, so do I need three 6pins total on my ATX PSU (one for the EXP GDC, 2 for the gpu)?Or, couldn't I just use the 6-pin to dual 6-pin, modular cable but power the EXP GDC with an ATX PSU? (so basically the normal DA-2 setup, but with an ATX PSU instead?)
