  1. Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know, I had an issue attempting to buy the GDC v6 EC with power supply from YoyBuy since Nando mentioned it had a better setup going for it. Two things actually went wrong. First off, I never realized that when I went to the gdc v6 page (first product listed on here: http://www.yoybuy.com/en/product/search?keyword=exp%20gdc), it would change to the v7 for some reason with 476 available which is different from the other one (the real v7) with the same price but twice as many available. So yeah, I had it ordered and a few days later, I get a message from Yoybuy saying it is out of stock? Regardless, if anyone knows why this is happening, I would be glad to hear about it. I really do want the v6 and would be happy to buy it off someone if they were offering.
  2. Hey Nando4, Do you think you can figure out why is that unlike most egpu users who can't seem to get Windows 8 to work with their setups, how mine ended up working the way I did it? I posted on here sometime ago about setting up a dual boot with Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8 Pro with my x230T. I allocated space in Windows 7 for 8 (80 gbs), went and restarted while keeping my egpu plugged in and running. I ran the Windows 8 Pro setup and used the free partition, got it all installed just fine. Windows 8 added the dual boot screen for choices upon bootup. When I got into windows 8 first thing, I wasn't getting the external to work, so I unplugged, plugged back in, nothing.. did it a second time and it seemed to install the correct drivers and worked. I repeated the same process of install windows 8 pro because of other things I still had to do and the second time required me to manually update the drivers but with the same result. I also noticed that when booting up with my egpu plugged in and running, when it got to the dual boot screen, this is where it detects the external and begins displaying to it before anything is there. It would either fail to load up the dual boot screen (just sits idlely at the flag icon) or work. If it failed, I would just reboot and it would always work on the second try. A third try would likely mean recovery mode so thank god for that hah. I did update the bios while in Windows 7 and heard that lenovo might have some special support for egpu setups in their bios, but not sure how that would play into the method I used to get my egpu setup to work or if it even did. The other consideration is the version of windows 8. I decided to go with pro because it was only 15 bucks for the upgrade from Microsoft (The deal is still going on, I know some friends who actually say that the website just gives you the promo despite not having bought a legitimate machine with windows 7 recently). Pro also has more compatibility with programs unlike the standard version, so who knows.. I just want to know what it really was in this process that might have contributed to an easy egpu setup for the most part. P.s. Windows 7 from dual boot screen also now seems to acknowledge the egpu existence upon loading up. Before I had a lot of trouble doing just the same thing. o.O
  3. I got my X230T to run 1.2x optimus on Windows 8 pro with 8GB of ram on the first try. I originally setup 80gb of space for a dual boot setup with Windows 7 pro and installed Windows 8 pro onto the unallocated space. While I booted up to run the cd to install the OS, I decided to keep my pci card connected with the power on for the card, thinking that I might get lucky and it could allocate the resources at the install to run it. Turns out it must have done just that, as while in Windows 8, I unplugged and replugged back in and got a strange amount of endless lag. However, by repeating the process a second time, it actually picked up the card correctly and ran the external with the internal. I also noticed that I have an almost flawless response to restarting and booting up while the card is connected and powered on before getting to the flag loading screen for bootup OS choice since once I enter into Windows 8, the second screen while actually on will become powered automatically. Logging in gets me both displays right off the bat. This is really epic in comparison to the Windows 7 pro issues I encountered. I will eventually try out 16GBs next to verify if the lenovo comp lagging still exists in this version of the OS. Update: 16GB is a no go. The lag still exists in windows 8, so going with 8GB is best. Also, while reinstalling again, I noticed that this time I had to go to system hardware and actually tell it to update the basic adapter driver that was currently showing as it did not seem to install on its own. Windows found the driver and properly installed it. A reboot was needed, but after that, all working well like before.
  4. I would just like to report from my previous issues with my Lenovo X230T that I got a slightly updated model from the 3434 to the 3435. I did more testing and found the same trend occurring with the need to re-install the drivers to get it to work through hot-swapping again. However, this time I discovered what allows the laptop to keep functioning with hot-swap. If you end up shutting the computer down, you are likely to lose the ability to hot-swap and would need to re-install the driver. But, if you were to just restart the machine (unplug after lenovo boot screen pops up), then plug the pci-express card back in after windows has loaded up some into the desktop, it will continue to function properly. If you enter sleep mode and pull the pci-card, it will cause windows to stop functioning and reboot when turned back on (even if you plug the card back in), but will still be hot-swappable upon next boot. I have yet to try the same thing on hibernation, although I have my doubts there. I will also be creating a backup of the drivers using a program like "Double Driver" prior to first hot-swap to see if I can more quickly recreate the environment without the hassle of too much time taken to re install (Might get even lucky without needing to reboot). Laptop Specs- Lenovo X230T Model 3435 Cpu: i7 3520M 2.9~3.6ghz (turbo) Ram: 8 gb (1 stick) (I have 16gbs total, but not recommended for egpu setups as it lags the computer to hell) Egpu: Nvidia Geforce GTX 660TI Adapter: PE4L 2.1b PSU: 300W (Generic from 40 dollar casing) On a side note: The wall charger that comes with this laptop is incapable of fully powering the laptop without the battery being present. This means that the cpu is stuck at less than half its performance. It took a number of Lenovo staff just to finally get to the bottom of figuring out why cpu ratings were always low.
  5. I have successfully put together a X230T with a PE4L 2.1b and a Gefore GTX 660TI. My computer has 8gb of ram, so it often encounters the TOULD issue. Originally when I tried using the 1.x setup to compress the pci slot, it still would not work. I went ahead and did the DSDT trick, but encountered one single error that I could not resolve on my own, nor was there any mention of how to solve it. Of course I thought I might force the .aml file to write just to see if it would work, but instead it eventually gave me the blue screen of death on the next bootup and had to run the repair process to fix it. There was no large memory showing up either, so wasn't sure what I might have been missing. Anyhow though, there is a method I figured out that allows me to make it work, but it is a real pain in the butt. If you uninstall the driver through device manager, and replug the pci card back in, it will detect and install the driver which take a bit to download and install. After that, you must reboot. Upon rebooting, I unplug the pci card and once it gets back onto windows, after a bit, I plug it in and it works. I also noticed that in order for it to work, my external screen must be off first thing as I think it is otherwise extra weight on the loadup somehow. I also have to re-install the 306.97 nvidia driver again to gain the full performance boosts (No restart required if previously installed extra parts are still left over). I used to be able to boot up the computer a few times to then, after bootup, enter sleep mode and plug in the pci card and wake it in order for it to work (This is after having performed the trick above), but that no longer works anymore. Anyone here know what is allowing this trick to essentially work? It would be nice if there was a quicker way to implement it or whatever the software is doing to provide the correct environment.
