  1. That's right. A multiple of 24 is best for watching films. Setting it at other values like 67Hz causes the video player to playout frames unevenly. If I owned an overclockable 60Hz LCD, I would have a multiple of 24 for films, of 25 for some PAL (EU AND UK framerate) and the highest possible for gaming.
  2. would be better to set the refresh rate at 96hz. That would sync up nicely with 24fps films giving good motion without any judder.
  3. I would like to experiment with PK-3 and other pastes but I've been sent so many tubes of ICD I have to get through them first.
  4. @J95 which bios before this one has the 100MHz SCC tweak? You mentioned that this one doesn't. - - - Updated - - - @J95 which bios before this one has the 100MHz SCC tweak? You mentioned that this one doesn't.
  5. The 780m vbios is a god send. It works really well. 1006/6008Mhz @1.0125v everything was rock steady in 3DMark 11 and I'm sure I can go higher. I scored around P9400 with a 10000+ Physics score and that was with my CPU at only 4.0Ghz Sandy Bridge used to need 4.5Ghz to get that score.
  6. Yeah I've noticed the intervals thing but I've never seem a gap that large. Oh well. Not really an issue. In fact it makes finding the right overclocking point easier. Has anyone managed to hit 100% power target yet? I have my slider maxed out at 146% I know I won't hit it because I have the temp slider at 80C but even at 680 speeds I'm only getting around 80%. I'll of course endeavour to climb the clocks but just wondering.
  7. I do need extra voltage for heavy benching. On stock volts things ran for a while before a driver crash. I think it would be fine for gaming. I've added one stop of voltage just to be on the stable side. The card runs cool anyways always below 75C with my testing. Does anyone else have an issue with clock speeds and readings? When I clock it to 915, it reads 906, to get 1006 I need 1010. It's not an issue or anything. Just curious.
  8. I haven't gotten around to benching yet. Just moderate stress testing.
  9. Flashed the unlocked bios to a Dell GTX 780m. Works great. Heaven extreme runs stable even at 1006/3000Mhz basically GTX 680 clocks. Definitely a keeper. No issues with the 3D version of the M17x R4 apart from lost 3D. 120Hz still present.
  10. Yep runs well. Overclocking is fun and tweaking it with Throttlestop on the go really brings out the capabilities of this machine.
  11. That's just the way it is with GPUz. It's DDR which is Dual Data Rate so it is running at 5Ghz don't worry. Everyone's will show the same.
  12. Engadget just linked a story to this thread: MacBook Air gets gaming credentials through home-built external GPU (video)
  13. Awesome. I'm thinking of getting a Dell one with Hynix rams and see how it goes.
  14. Hey guys, has anyone tried the unlocked 780m vbios on a Dell version GTX 780m?
  15. 1600Mhz is the sweet spot because of the combined latency of CL9 (the lower the better). Faster speeds of ram are inversely proportional to CAS speeds for stability hence 2133Mhz having something like CL11 or CL12. I was fortunate enough to snag some 1866Mhz CL9 and have some 1600Mhz CL7 lying around somewhere.
  16. Hey that's truly impressive, forever closing the gap between mobile and desktop cards. I have hypothetical, does the GPU ramping up work 100% meaning is it possible to crank voltage and power target up to max (or quite high), set a temperature limit and have the card overclock itself? If it is the case I'm definitely getting one.
  17. Apparently not, A05 modified to A10 modified resulted with bad write, black screen and loud fans. Manually powered down, bios recovered to stock A05, then flashed A10 using regular Insyde method. Happily sitting on unlocked A10 now.
  18. Looking at the AW 14 with that much bezel underneath there is no reason they couldn't have put a 16:10 display in there and then stand out from the crowd. I'm hoping that the touch pad is illuminated by that really bright strip along the buttons and the rest is lit using a bit of light carrying acrylic that can be removed. Personally, if the touchpad didn't light up and had that thin strip, I think it would look awesome. I like the design I just hate the way the base speaker grills slopes inward rather than outward like the current gen.
  19. That's really impressive. I know this is an old thread but instead of making full coverage blocks, have you considered my proposition of using Koolance GPU 220 blocks? The block itself will not be any thicker than the existing heatsinks which means you can still put the shroud back on with the fans in place. Put some passive heatsinks on the other modules and they can be efficiently cooled as well. It's just an economical suggestion by me but I guess for a guy who owns two Mars II cards...
  20. The final up close and in person design will help me decide on a i7 3940XM. Bad design = upgrade current. Good design = get new laptop. The EE CPU is the final step for my decked out machine with 4GB GTX 680m, 1866Mhz CL9 ram, 256GB + 512GB SSDs and 3D Vision. Been coasting along on a "lowly" i7 3610QM. Shame no alternative GPUs without losing 3D functionality.
  21. Actually, knowing Chinese , I managed to put the videos in the highest res possible and noticed that the keyboards are actually lit. I'm unsure how exactly in terms of led configuration. Perhaps one can replace the keyboard with a current gen one? I am ok with the design but need to see more first. I like the exterior lights though. IPS will add thickness to the display panel/lid. Aluminium definitely lends itself to desirability. I'm more interested with the GPU and GPU Boost 2.0. Maybe we will finally be able to control it the same way as the desktop versions ie setting power and temperature thresholds instead of clocks. I see huge potentials with vbios and cooling mods here. My warranty ends in July. mid June will decide whether to phone up Dell or not...
  22. Haven't been here for a while! Unfortunately it looks like the 780m suffers from the same issue that the 680m did with anything but the MSI pre-release rom. I'm satisfied with my modded 4GB GTX 680m @915(980)/1125. But will definitely trade up once the issue gets resolved.
