  1. Just swapped out my HDD for a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD this week. I was able to install the SSD into the original HDD slot. Samsung SSDs comes with an installation CD that enables you to migrate your current data on your HDD into your new SSD. Alternatively, you can just do a fresh install for windows. The HDD slot is located under the optical drive so you will need to remove the optical drive to access it. If you don't really need the optical drive, you can also purchase a caddy online and install your HDD into the optical drive slot instead
  2. Have been using my R1 for the past 3 years without much problems. Pros: Used to be one of the fastest lappies around. Cons: Heavy as hell especially for a college student SSD upgrade is a must now Runs really hot when multitasking I would say weigh your options, if you're a student that needs a computer more for work then get a slim and light ultrabook If you're not gonna be carrying it around, the M14X is a reliable companion that will serve you well
  3. Just installed a Samsung 840 Pro in my M14X R1. No problems so far and even reinstalling the OS and applications were a breeze. You will have to flash the Bios to get SATA III speeds though since Dell limited it in the A08 Bios.
  4. Not sure if this helps but I've been using my M14X R1 for about 3 years. One main issue is that it runs awfully hot when I play game. Since changing to an SSD a week back, the laptop is much cooler and runs much faster. The SSD is a Samsung 840 Pro
  5. Just wanted to check if the HDD runs hot after some time? Interested in doing this but not sure if I should just get another SSD with Black Friday just around the corner or to just stick my old HDD into the slot
  6. Is it possible to retain the HDD in place of the optical drive after installing the SSD in the original location? I would rather have more memory as compared to an optical disc drive
  7. Just out of curiosity, can the M14X R1 run 16gb of ram? I've been checking out some forums that states that the R1 can only handle 8gb of ram. Even so, will 16gb of ram have a significant impact on performance over 8gb?
  8. Same question here, I've seen the alienware flashing to the beats of songs in the stores but have never been able to figure out how to do it myself
  9. Just checked out Constantine which came out a few days ago, looks pretty interesting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPE2oBnzROY
  10. Hi all, Recently doing some upgrades to my aged alienware M14x r1 so I've been going on many forums to check out what rams and hard disks to upgrade to. Found this site really really helpful. Thanks!
  11. One of my favourite animes growing up
