  1. What does it take to change the adapter on the M17x 240W PSU? I've modded a lot of things laptop-related, but AC adapters are new for me.
  2. Because I've been offered the same amount of money for my 7970M, as I could buy a 680M for on eBay, so I'm basically swapping cards for no cost. Might as well get a small performance boost, the Nvidia drivers and software features, and double the VRAM. BTW would the AW 240W PSU require modification, as the other AW PSU in this thread did?
  3. Thanks. I'm just planning ahead, since I'm in the process of upgrading from a 3610QM+7970M to 3720QM+680M. I'll definitely wait for testing before purchasing a new one. As I understand it, overclocking the 3720QM puts it at 55-65W TDP (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Would you guess that the 180W PSU would be enough for this, and a highly overclocked/overvolted 680M?
  4. What would you recommend as a higher wattage PSU for the P150EM, for someone who wants to overclock a 3720QM (at least as much as it allows via turbo mults) and a 680M as far as possible? The P170's 220W PSU?
  5. Seconding Khenglish here, the best/smallest laptop with top end graphics is the P150SM/P157SM by Clevo/Sager
  6. I tend to play a lot of CPU bound Games, especially a modded Skyrim, which benefits a lot from clock increases. What kind of frequency increase over baseline is possible? I run the 7970M @1.1V 1100/1500, but would reduce that in favor of CPU OC if I start to be limited by the PSU.
  7. I've been recently trying to overclock my 60Hz panel to 70Hz, like I was able to do on my previous laptop using this utility. However, I can't seem to get any results using it with my P150EM with 7970M and 1080p 95% Gamut panel. Does anyone know the best way to overclock a panel like this? Is it possible that graphics switching via Enduro (with no option to disable) is preventing LCD overclocking?
  8. I'm thinking about upgrading from my locked 3610QM to the unlocked/overclockable 3720QM, since prices have dropped. Has anyone had any experience with overclocking CPUs like this (which are only "partially unlocked" compared to extreme CPUs)? Are there any benchmarks around? What kind of performance boost over stock is usually seen?
  9. My god, it's throttling 30-45% though most of the XTU benchmark... Could Prema's BIOS mod increasing the turbo time to 120s artificially inflate this number? Looks like I need to buy some thermal paste. I hope that's the issue, and not a bad CPU. I'm getting 340 marks on XTU, where online scores are mostly at 560+
  10. All of my systems before now have been mostly GPU bound, so I'm not completely familiar with the CPU testing side of things. I believe my CPU is poorly pasted, and overheating/throttling more than it should. What is the best program/procedure to test this? Any other related advice is also welcome.
  11. Many games only run on one or two cores, so overclocking the CPU can definitely give you more performance in gaming. Especially in games like Skyrim that tend to be CPU limited.
  12. Thanks for the guide, and the nice performance boost! I think you also saved svl7 some time/pms I went from a maximum 1025 MHz core overclock at 1.05V, to 1.1 GHz at 1.1V. That brought my 3DMark 11 GPU score from 7691 to 8078. With the back propped up by a bottlecap, it only maxed at 80*C after a half hour in Furmark, at 1100/[email protected]. No blue screens/crashes so far either. I think 1.1V is the highest I'll go, but has anyone had luck with 1.15?
  13. Been using your mod for a couple weeks now, and am loving the new CPU long turbo time. It's especially nice for CPU limited games like Skyrim. Thanks for the "upgrade"! This had me thinking - is there any possibility of eventually getting the ability to disable hyperthreading on the CPU? It seems that the only way to do this (although feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) would be through a BIOS mod giving us the option. Would that even be possible on the HM77 mobo?
  14. By K1, do you mean the "default" download? I installed the "P150EM_17_11_PM_v2" and "P150EM_17_11_PM_v2_K2". Neither of these moved the location of the fn key, leaving it on the right side. Is this supposed to happen? What version should I install to get the fn key moved to the left side?
  15. Hey Prema, great work here. Thanks for the mods! I'm trying to switch my windows/fn keys with your mod. I have a P150EM with the fn key on the right, however, both of the keyboard versions leave the fn/windows keys as-is. The full fan command works fine for each version, whether its fn+1 or fn+8, but both leave the fn on the right. Am I misunderstanding what these different versions are for? Or is there some issue here?
  16. In my opinion, glossy only looks better than matte in a nearly pitch black room, otherwise the reflections are distracting to me. I would never want glossy, since I'm almost never in that situation.
  17. Unless someone comes in here with a way to easily check the port, I would just order a new one from somewhere else, and make sure they have a good return policy.
  18. I use this - Init Laptop Briefcase NT-NB101-13 - Best Buy - for my 15.6" P150em. It fits well, protects well enough, and was only $30.
  19. Nice! The best possible GPU/CPU that laptop can have. I wonder if G73jw's are upgradable like this, or if they can't support higher end cards since it uses the 460M. I'll never understand why Asus "upgraded" the line by going from the 5870 to the slower 460m.
  20. What games are you playing? It may be that you are playing games that stress your CPU more than your GPU. Skyrim is like this (without heavy graphics mods).
  21. Is it difficult to overclock with this method on a laptop?
  22. Does anyone know where I can find voltage modded 7970M vbios for a Clevo P1x0EM / Sager NP91x0? It sounds like the Dell 7970M vbios from the downloads section here works on the Clevo card, but possibly with issues. A 1.1V version was posted in this thread - Modifying voltage for 7970M in P150EM? - Page 7 - at NBR, but then removed.
