  2. Just for the record, ThrottleStop is still useful for the M18x. It lets you push the maximum TDP power limit up past 99 watts to 130 watts and beyond. What you do with all that extra heat is up to you to figure out. The 130 watt setting helps benchers get a little more out of their XM CPUs but probably isn't needed for 24/7 use. ThrottleStop also continues to be a great monitoring tool and can create a log of your CPU's performance while gaming. No need to be wondering what's going on when you can have some cold hard numbers to look at. It will give you some insight into what multiplier your laptop is really running at while gaming. BTW, nice computer porn Brian!

  3. That shouldn't happen. Does the volume drop across the board or just in that program? Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

  4. TS is by far my favorite monitoring and overclocking tool, that's no secret Anyhow, here's a wprime and vantage run I did with the CPU at 4.7 GHz. Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

  5. Yeah mine was embedded on the mainboard (9600 gs seems to be a dedicated card) so I think you should be fine. That said, you could take a look whether its possible to upgrade to a better card, e.g. here they mention asus g50vt-x1 video card upgrade? it is possible to upgrade to GTX260M. Just FYI.

  6. I'm running my 2960xm currently @ 44x 945pri 0-flex 99w/56s long & 85w short cstate c7-enable. CPU throttles as soon as a wprime load is put on it. Games run ok and CPU doesn't throttle as far as I can tell. I have oem thermals also. I what to push a little higher what settings do u recommend now? Also should I be using throttlestop? I haven't uses since my m17xr2

  7. My new Q1N8 2920xm (D2 stepping) has arrived! Actually scales up the voltage passed 1.35v unlike the Q1CE 2920xm. So for all intents and purposes, it is an OEM except for the ES tag that shows up in CPU-Z. My 24/7 settings are 0 flex, 810 priplane, 95 long/max short, 88/95W in TS and 41x on multipliers. Finishes Wprime 1024MB 8 threads in a respectable 191s.

  8. Some impressions from today... fantastic snow and nice weather, but it's freezing, between -20 and -30°C (Americans can check the "convert to metric guide below" ) Face freeze: Guide to converting to metric:

  10. That's interesting, did you use a Clevo FirePro VBIOS? And how did you manage to get rid of the PP issue? Never used a Clevo 5870m, but people reported that it doesn't work with the Dell 5870m VBIOS.

  11. Hmm, I don't know, at least not for sure... quite some things can affect driver compatibility, e.g. the VBIOS, the hardware IDs etc. The VBIOS should be compatible with the normal and FirePro drivers. The question is whether the Mac OS drivers work with the FirePro VBIOS. Can you quickly check the hardware string of your card, e.g. with HWiNFO or check the device manager. True, not the best solution... I'd say check your hardware ID and post it here. And then give it a try... that's the easiest way for such things (imo), trial and error... I simply don't have all the information about how exactly driver installation, compatibility checks etc. work, most things I've accomplished with my cards were kind of "learning by doing". Windows should boot fine on your system with the FirePro VBIOS, then you can install the drivers. The question is whether the Mac OS GPU driver will still be doing its job... chances are that it works, if not we might find a way by modifying a hardware ID in the VBIOS. Really? I thought it only allows changes of the subvendor ID? Your subsystem ID is 04BA? Check out the VBIOS, you might be able to find the entry, or upload it here and I take a look at it... never looked for this, but might be easy to find, dunno.

  12. 1. you can use the 580m on battery but I am 90% sure it will throttle it or reduce the gaming ability so that gaming really wouldn't be a lot of fun. This can also depend on what games your playing or what apps your using also. There are people on here that do know more about graphic switching then I. 2. ram chips and which are the best can be a personal choice. I prefer Corsair Vengeance myself and they work great in my M17x R3. Great thing about the M17 is it allows up to 4 sticks so there is a lot of room to expand to what you need or want.
