  1. Too late for me, but be warned! EDIT: Probably should have gone in PC gaming sorry, I was just pissed off and wanted everybody to see it. "The EULA of EA’s new game service, Origin, has some spectacular clauses which would mean you would have to be insane to sign up for it. Under the title of “Consent to Collection and Use of Data”, you give EA permission to “collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer, operating system, application usage, software, software usage and peripheral hardware.” Under the agreement EA may use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve its products and services. But it will also flog the information to advertisers who can send you lots of spam based on the contents of your hard-drive. To make sure that users get the message it puts a warning in capitals. “ IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION.” Companies that do this to their customers really do deserve to have their products left on the shelves or never downloaded. Still at least users can say they were warned." Source

  2. Okay. Here's my summary on BIOS a05. For not so tech-savvy people, it's great! It really does quiet down your system and only makes noise when it needs to. Cooling isn't as loud. For almost everyone here: It's basically worthless, and actually quite annoying. It does make the system quieter, but in doing so it doesn't cool as well. My cpu used to sustain very low temperatures while playing games, but after an extensive 2 and a half hour gaming of Borderlands, i was reaching 98 97 97 93 celsius on my cores. GPU hovered between 67 and 76 celsius. I find this too hot on the cpu for a game like Borderlands, even though it was for an extended time. My recommendation for non-tech savvy people: Keep it, it does its job. My recommendation for tech savvy people: Set a power profile for when you want the system quiet (There's a tutorial for that ;P), and use high power settings when you want the max performance and the fan to be roaring. Also, you can use HWinfo32, created by the awesome Mumak, to control the m14x fans. I've been using that and experienced NO PROBLEMS with the new Beta version.

  3. Hi guys I am back again! good to see you all and what a perfect topic to make a comeback that the recent HP Debacle. As some of you know HP recently announce that they will leave the Smart phone and tablet market and over the weekend the sanctioned and subsidized a fire sale on their HP Tablets with the intent of clear their massive inventories, people bought the 16 gig model for 99 us (399-499 retail) and the 32 gig for 149 us (599 and up retail) . On top of that HP is thinking about leaving the PC market all together and become a service company like IBM. They Claim that WebOS is not death(incidentally they bought WebOS from palm about 16 months ago for 1.2 Bill) and they will bring it back to life with some kind of licensing type of deal(never mind Android is free), but that not the focus of this post, the focus is how could HP have the audacity of selling to consumers a product that not only is defunct but can and will become nothing more that a 99 dollar paper weight. Some people in the Tech industry are calling this Fire sale the deal of the century, but i prefer to call it as it is, the sham-scam of the year. Even if people can install android or apple IOS 5.0in this machine as a hack the fact of the matter is that the product is as it is, there will be no support and no more development (god forbid your tablet is damage), so off course HP made attractive for most people (even I was Tempted to get one) but if you stop and think for more that 3 minutes you will reach to the conclusion that even at 99 dollars is not worth it, there is no real killer application for it and without a robust App store it just to add insult to injury. This is another example about HP not caring about the consumer and trying to cut their losses so instead of loosing a billion dollars they ended up loosing 900 million, and rumors are that HP will spin off their computer division ( and call it Compaq as Michael Dell mocked them in twitter?) but the best advice is stay away form HP computers or save your money when the HP Laptops come to the block in a fire sale, you been warned.

  4. OK, people have been asking for this for a while so I thought since I can tear this down in about 10min, I should do a quick write-up. Like the title said, I did this quick so pictures wont be the best but you will get a better understanding on how to teardown the system enough to at least repaste etc.. Here we go 1 - Shot of the underside 2 - Remove battery and the 4 screws in red to remove bottom cover 3 - Bottom Cover Off: Remove Screws Labeled I (5 of them in Red), P ( 5 in Blue), and HD Bay screws (4 in Green) 4 - Remove Hard Drives 5 - Remove Screws In Empty Hard Drive Bay (4 in blue) 6 - Remove the LCD Hinge Screws ( 4 in Red) and disconnect the wireless antennae (circled and traced in Red) 7 - Flip System over and open screen 8 - Pop off the media control panel by lifting the back right and left corners until it "pops" off. I find using my guitar pick helps with this 9 - Once the back corners have popped loose, run the guitar pick around the edges to loosen the rest (around the keyboard) 10 - Picture of the media panel loose but still connected with the ribbon cable (disconnect this now) 11 - Remove the Keyboard and macro keyboard screws ( 6 in Red) 12 - Disconnect all cables from the motherboard and graphic cards ( 11 in total) and 2 more lcd screws ( 2 in blue) This includes: 2 ribbon cables for the macro keyboard 2 ribbon cables for the keyboard 3 for the handrest/trackpad (2 on bottom, 1 near the right crossfire cable connector) 2 for the screen (one toward the bottom left, one at the top left) 2 for the crossfire cable (labeled L and R on the cable) 13 - Remove 3 more screws securing the cover ( 3 in Red). You will need to pop off this cover starting at the back... just lift until it pops off. If it is being difficult, make sure all screws labeled "P" on both the top and bottom are removed. 14 - Once the cover is off, remove the screws (going from #1-4) on your heatsinks.... clean and repaste. If anyone wants pics of the heatsinks removed just let me know (I took a couple but not really necessary for this guide). Once again, I did this all very fast so I know it is not as polished as it could have been.... but I wanted this out sooner than later for everyone to use. Let me know if anything is unclear etc... D.
