While reading this article on the main page, I cannot find a where to leave comments! I had to find it in the forums to post comment! Are most new stories unable to be commented on from the main screen?

Anyways, this card is very nice and makes the  ps4 & Xbox one even more dated! I am happy my laptop is s fully upgraded able! Errr I think this site has a problem with iphone ! It is very iratating replying from my  iphone . The cursor jumps everywhere in the text box!

It was a permissions issue, thanks for bringing it up as we weren't aware of it! It's fixed now and you should be able to comment on articles on the front page.

Hi. Quick question if you don't mind. I'd like to buy one these kits to upgrade my m18x R2 (660m). Is everything I need included or will it require a different heat sink and fan?

You will need heat sinks for sure... 660M heat sinks will not support 980M correctly. If you plan on going with SLI, you will need whatever parts your system is missing if you are not already running 660M in SLI (i.e. secondary GPU fan, heat sink and SLI bridge). Tell Eurocom what you need and they will most likely be able to set you up. They are strong supporters of people having the ability to upgrade what they have and chances are good that they have the parts you need. They used to offer generous trade-ins on Alienware laptops, so that may be something to ask them about. A traded-in antique Alienware like  the M18xR1/R2 is nice donor machine for keeping up their stock of upgrade parts.

You will also need the BIOS mod from @Swick1981 available here at Tech|Inferno. Without his awesome BIOS mod, Maxwell sucks on the M18xR2.

Hi people ..... I think that the folks over Eurocom have made a mistake ..... this upgrade kit is listed to be available even for the DELL M6500, and, myself having one, I can guarantee, that the standard 980m in mxm format can't be put in this DELL. It has a special connector, top-down, and not an mxm 45degree insert angle

.... Could you, any of the mods, bring to their attention this little "typo" ?

 Have all a great week!

Following the release of NVIDIAs new 436.02 driver which I mentioned in an earlier article here, I've decided to make a quick and dirty video showing off NVIDIAs new Sharpen filter which is part of their Game Filter feature. It works with the most popular APIs including DX 9, 11, 12 and Vulkan and can be set on a per-game basis with granular settings of 0-100 unlike AMDs RIS which is limited to Navi and lacks DX 11 support.

      Hi,

I am having some heat issues with the GTX 680m I installed on my Alienware M17x R2 (yes, its old).  Having installed and ran HWiNFO64, it appears that the maximum rpm of the GPU fan is 2560rpm, even when the GPU reached a maximum of 93° Celsius.  The rpm seems low, but what is the maximum rpm of the fan, does anyone have any ideas?

      Thanks

Well that didn't take long for NVIDIA to respond to Navi. The new 436.02 Game Ready Driver adds the following features:

      Game Ready
Provides increased performance and the optimal gaming experience for Apex Legends, Battlefield V, Forza Horizon 4, Strange Brigade, and World War Z
      Gaming Technology
Adds Beta support for GPU Integer Scaling Adds Beta support for Ultra-Low Latency Mode Adds support for new Freestyle Sharpen Filter Adds support for new G-SYNC compatible monitors Driver release notes: https://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/436.02/436.02-win10-win8-win7-release-notes.pdf

This isn't the old max pre-rendered frames setting, its supposedly a new improved algorithm that matches AMDs anti-lag feature for Navi.

Next up is support for integer scaling which Intel recently announced but it seems NVIDIA beat everyone to the punch. Unfortunately, this is only for Turing for now:

Additionally NVIDIA has created a new filter for FreeStyle simply called "Sharpen" which improves performance and visual clarity that is supposed to be on par with RSI but with much broader support and granular adjustment. According to Eurogamer, "They also point out that the amount of sharpening can be adjusted from 0 to 100 per cent, applied on a per-game basis and works with games across all major graphics APIs: DX9, DX11, DX12 and Vulkan".

Finally, the driver brings with it some game performance improvement, including very popular titles like Apex Legends which sees up to 23% boost at 1080p:

Overall a pretty solid release, it had some issues earlier when it was released with GeForce Experience being force installed but it should be remedied by now.
