  1. Thanks a bunch, a problem is probably any custom clocks we have on modded vbios files though right?
  2. Where did you lose brightness control? It's working fine with my Dv6z 6100 and the beta 12.11 Linux drivers.
  3. The M17x and M18x are muxed, which means instead of the switchable graphics nonsense plaguing Linux, and even Windows a bit for AMD, you can just switch over to the dGPU and be happy.
  4. AMD. PhysX is pretty useless and only supported for a few dozen titles. Nvidia is the only one among the three big graphics makers that doesn't support the open source implementation for Linux. AMD supports overclocking with the drivers, while Nvidia hasn't done that for generations of their products. Nvidia is more expensive.
  5. Matte screens remind me of older Macs. They don't seem as crisp as glossy screens but are generally better for fingerprints and outdoor viewing (I've found). I haven't tried an anti-reflection coating, but wouldn't there be problems with air bubbles?
  6. This thread is a little old, but does anyone know something that can be done about the rigid aiming which controller emulators impart? It seems only the four cardinal directions and the four corners are emulated, which makes precise aiming terribly hard. A good example of this behavior natively is something like Fo3 or FNV vs Skyrim. Fallout seems to have really poor aiming degrees, but the same kind of built-in support feels a lot better with Skyrim.
  7. I found the G700 impossible to use, it was way too bulky and it had enormous drag, not to mention the thick cord. My G500 and my G9x are still treating me pretty well though, barring the LGS nonsense I've recently discovered we have to put up with now.
  8. Such a bland story (and ending) but the graphics are superb, and gameplay feels a lot like BC2 or Battlefield 3. I don't think I'd buy it at 25% off for current prices on Steam tough.
  9. A Linux live disc would be a good choice to check hardware compatibility with the hdd still in your laptop. See if gparted or whatever can see the disk, if so then it's probably just a partitioning issue. If the bios is too limiting there is always that unlocked one with the modified clocks, it can sometimes cause instability though. I actually have that same model sitting next to me atm (running a locked bios with modified clocks).
  10. Not even a fair comparison really, the 660M may be newer but the 6990m is the top of the line (and poorly named) model from AMD for last gen. Could you swing a 7970m instead? It would be substantially quicker than anything you've mentioned.
  11. I've not been able to get it working, and it hasn't been updated in quite some time, so there wasn't even really support for Fermi.
  12. Oh I'm very interested please! I bought a G75VW-BBK5 for college, and I'm dual-booting Kubuntu with W7, but there aren't any Nvidia overclocking utilities for Linux. The laptop works quite well because it doesn't have Optimus (so no Bumblebee craziness) but getting some better performance out of it would be great, as 1080p can be difficult to drive even with the binaries.
  13. So since the G75 660m isn't soldered, this should work? Would it be possible to flash that modded Dell 1000MHz vBIOS?
