  1. For less than $1000, the asus model you posted nets you an LCD screen with a resolution of 1600x900 for a 17 inch laptop AND you get a 740m GPU... I'd go for the Lenovo instead as 1080p screens are practically standard, plus it's 15" so it's more portable due to its smaller size AND you get dual 750m SLIs, and you have the option of ditching the secondary GPU for a dedicated optical drive or HDD caddy. Hope that helps!
  2. I've read that the 880m is the same chip/architecture as the 780m. If I were you I would have waited a bit longer when nVidia starts releasing 880mx chips based on the new architecture poised to make a noticeable increase from previous generation.
  3. I run VMware on my lenovo, but not as hardcore as if you were doing this on a PC. If you are into VMware, then having 16gigs of RAM helps. But for what the 750m SLI has to offer in terms of gaming, 8 gigs of RAM is plenty enough for the performance the laptop can handle.
  4. If only I can download this at this moment! I don't have the minimum posts yet! I have a server at home which I use as a seedbox and would gladly keep this up and running. So, for those who have it, please start up the seeding!
  5. The way you game plays a role. If you are wondering what the core temperatures are, mine do not get above 90 degrees Celcius after heavy duty gaming. They average around 80. Of course, the area around the vents get very warm, enough to turn ice water into tepid water for a short period of time as if it sat over night. As for comfort, the keyboard and palm rests do not get warm. I highly recommend you upgrade to an SSD because they do not get as warm as an HDD. I noticed when I first bought this, the stock HDD would get warm, but not enough to become the slightest issue. When I upgraded to an SSD, the palm rest area doesn't get warm during long gaming sessions. Hope this helps!
  6. So, I've read the last four pages since the others seem to be outdated... I bought my laptop in December. I am really wanting to "downgrade" the laptop so that I can install my OEM Intel 7260 AC and finally rock out with AC1900 throughout my home. So far, what I have gathered is the following: -Downgrading will/might make your OS not boot properly if still in secure boot. -Sleep function no longer works. -external booting (i.e., DVD, USB) might not work either. I have to check which BIOS version I have. Last time I checked lenovo's website and typed in my model number (or was it serial?), the site said it doesn't have an update. I know the spirit of this BIOS mod is to allow you to install whatever wifi card you want because the stock intel one sucks. Well, honestly, I really have not had any problems with mine. Signal strength is the same with my older laptop. I've gamed on this wifi card without any hiccups, streamed movies over network, etc. I am really interested in doing this because I would like to utilize my Netgear AC1900 wireless. With that being said, I have the following questions. -Is the issue of windows not booting after the downgrading a common problem? (If so, I'll do more research on how to get around it before I start asking for a work around). -Is the sleep function permanently "disabled" after the downgrade? This really isn't a big issue as I upgraded to an SSD and a cold boot up is very quick. -Is the external boot options not working a common issue? Thanks!
  7. Ditto on the "shdd to SSD" swap method as being easier to do.
  8. Hey ya'll, first time poster, obviously, lol. I'm a regular at another forum, which I won't post since that may be seen as spamming. Anyway, I'm at T|I because I bought a Lenovo y510P and want to upgrade the wifi to the Intel 7260 AC now that I have an AC 1900 router. Looking forward to help out with other laptop issues as I'm also a PC Tech, well used to be as I switched careers lol, but I still do it as a hobby on the side for extra money. So yeah. I'm loving my lenovo laptop.
