  1. Could someone explain what this ordeal was about? I knew of Brian having to send his in and kept getting black or the wrong GPU or something.. What was everything about?
  2. Ah, well price isnt a big deal and I will be waiting until christmas, which by then I could possibly get a deal or prices will lower a little. Im just wondering if itll become noticeably slower?
  3. Im finding 500gb is getting a little low for me. So 2 questions. 1. How hard is it to remove the hard drive? I popped off the back and saw it was just some little tab or something but didnt wanna pull it. 2. How much slower would 5400RPM be? Im torn between getting a 7200RPM 750gb or 5400RPM 1tb. I have a 2tb external USB 3.0 drive, but most of my hard drive space goes to steam games, which I keep on the laptop drive These are the 2 hard drives Im considering btw http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136927 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145521
  4. The m14x downclocks when you go on battery because the battery capacity isnt high enough to run the i7 + 555M at full load. So, in short, you need to be plugged in to play games.
  5. Is that some sort of code for change it? :P

  6. Wow, tis why I'm not buying BF3 lol. EA sucks. Id buy it if it was on Steam, but on Origin they remove games after 2 years. So its really like renting a game for full price
  7. Oh its only 2 days before the actual game? I can-...I mean.. My friend on.. that pirate ship site will have it by then
  8. I rebooted once when I first noticed the problem and it did nothing. Then after I just straight turned it off it was fine
  9. Id rather not open the machine, Im sure it can be fixed by software (as like 90% of problems are software-related; this one probably being drivers). Ill try everyones suggestions though. If it still cant be resolved, ill try it as a last resort nekojin. EDIT: I turned off my computer, left it off for about 3 hours, and turned it back on. Viola, GPU is back and I can successfully access the control panel. Dont know what happened
  10. So looks like my 555M is gone. One can consider that a sort of a downer Anyways, I was playing Crysis 2 when I BSOD'd. Nice eh? Then I reboot back into windows, everythings fine. So after doing some windows stuff for a while (CCleaner, new theme, ect), I go to overclock my GPU so I can finish playing crysis, when I see that my NVIDIA control panel looks like this (and its gone from right clicking on desktop, I just use a desktop icon for it) Then I go into Device Manager to see if I need to reboot the driver or something, and my GPU is no where to be seen. Not even like default VGA adapter. Just the Intel HD. AND THEN, I went to install my drivers again as I still had the files with the modded INF, and it said no compatible hardware found no me gusta
  11. Its okay, I know at your age it can be hard to see numbers (joking lol)
  12. Bump, laptop noods plz... and inb4 posting pictures of your computer without the case and calling it nudes
  13. Show off your beasts! Dell, HP, Lenevo, Alienware, Sager, heck even Apple, just give em a good rub n scrub and take sexy pictures like a boss and post here.
  14. I'd reccomend getting the i7 2630QM (the base i7). It's almost as powerful as the extreme version i7's from the last gen Core i Series and it'll be more than enough for gaming. I would really highly recommend the 900p screen as I have it and you can just turn the resolution down to 1366x768 or lower for intensive games. For asking if ASUS's are better for games, that's where you have to know about computer components at least a little. For example, out of the box, the ASUS G53 would be better for games with the same i7 processor as the base i7 in the m14x (2630QM) and a GTX 460M which the 555M can reach or exceed with overclocking, but it will beat the m14x out of the box and offer a larger hard drive and more RAM for about 1300$. Except, its substantially bigger than the m14xs.
  15. 900p and at least an i7 are really a must. If you plan to keep it for more than 2 years and want to continue to get the best possible performance, get the 3gb. If not, get 1.5gb. Buy RAM aftermarket, and then the rest is up to you and pretty simple. I agree with Steven, if you're really unsure of what youre doing alienwares arent great. Preconfigured ASUS's and such are pretty good for that. But if you do know what youre doing then just what I said above.
