  1. Absolutely awesome and congratulations Louis1978uk. Bravo man! Wow id like to see what youd do with a 4960x! What are temps like on the 980m and the cpu at those clocks for a run like that?? need a lot of overvoltage to get there on the haswell 6 core?
  2. incredible score on Xtu I have the same ram in 8gb modules over dual channel. They definitely rock, excellent getting that much performance out of your Eurocom very cool, I dig it nice work on your timings as well. You could see what I did on my timings and see if you can drop anything else down in your timings if your trying to squeeze a bit more perfirmance but you definitely want to test for stability a bit if your going to leave them flashed like that. Im using mine at 11-11-11-27 but they are into the CL10 timing in nanoseconds. Ill share link in this post. http://forum.techinferno.com/showthread.php?p=114764 you could see where I went with timings using Thaiphoon Burner I posted the full timings and the original timings for comparison. I have the Impact modules from a month or two ago they have 11-11-11-31 2133 as stock 1.35v I know they made a revision and released the modules I think you are using now. I think they just made them at the new timings to work with a broader amount of motherboards. I dont know hope you get a few more points and hit your goal

Wow glad to hear it Louis1978uk cant wait to see what you do with those.
  4. I can recommend dont go with a slow ram kit because you really want more performance per mhz and often faster ram with tight timings will get the most out of your cpus true capabilities. My Haswell laptop cpu gets far more done at 4.2ghz for example on 2133mhz c10 ram than it does with tighter timing and slower 1600mhz ram on Cl9 or even Cl8. Just emphasizing that you can by a very cost effective cpu as outlined above and paired with a better set of ram will give you some great performance for less. The gpu may be outdated in a few years as stated but cpu usually stays for awhile at the range we are talking in your build. If you plan to sink money into upgrades later you might not want for example very expensive ram to start with but I have a feeling you dont really want to have it slower to start so grabbing up a kit like the 2666 kit angerthosenear posted which is DDR4 for the Intel 5 Gen Core series cpus would be a great match indeed.
  5. Is the cpu overlocked any or at all from factory even though there are no adjustements? Just seems like strange issues. Could be a motherboard problem too not necessarily a bios issue. What speed ram is in the system perhaps its faster than the motherboard can handle. Just throwing some thoughts out as im unsure. Dissapearing drive seems hardware related. Maybe its the ssd itself causing the issues, you could give that a check for errors and check the SMART information. can you post some temps from a monitoring app for cpu and gpu through some gaming before it happens to see if it is temps..
  6. I think Prema just told you the answer. Pretty sure Prema is saying the Taiwanese vendors are correct and the Sager vendor was incorrect...
  7. It definitely depends on the motherboard/system. My Alienware 18 can use a single 8gb stick in any of the 4 slots. The important thing in most systems is generally matching ram sticks and making sure one stick is in one channel and one in the other channel to use dual channnel. Usually two ram slots next to each other are a slot for one channel amd a slot for the other. having 4 slots the other two are as well one from each channel. One can boot ram from the second pair or main pair of ram slots on laptops but perhaps some can be finicky as Cancerman states. Im using 2133mhz ddr3l in my Alienware but for some they can only get 1866mhz to be stable and run on these Haswell Alienware laptops. Finicky is probably the best definition of a PC lol.
  8. Thank you, just the CPU but that is a lot harder to get a deal on then a case So I was happy to grab the 4790k The GPU will just have to wait till I make some more $$ lol can be an expensive hobby but I was glad to have won some parts to get me nearly a full build. Total system cost so far is about $335. 307$+tax and shipping was free. Have a case and GPU left to add. Cheers and thanks again.
  9. as Cancerman states To Clean a partition while booted to windows (not the boot drive) (for a boot drive you will need the Windows 7 install disk or Windows disk etc for your edition of Windows and after cleaning will need a clean installation of Windows) open Command Prompt as Admin type "diskpart" hit enter type "list disk" hit enter read the disks and numbers and based on capacity and how they show in computer management you should know which the target disk is note the # type "select disk X" and hit enter where X is the numeral of the disk type"clean" hit enter and accept if prompted type "exit" and hit enter after it said cleaning was succesful close command prompt with the X or type "exit" hit enter
  10. Well in air cooling fans can still have high cooling abilities but be quieter, the quietest ones that still cool well are simply the large bladed fans. As they use larger fans, they can get the same cooling at a lower rpm and lower Decibel level for much of the same CFM. If you are running the gpus stock and they dont get overly hot at stock fan speed I would try a multitude of apps to find one that may give fan control. Why not try EVGA PrecisionX should allow control of the fans. My brothers pc I put together and picked his parts fpr actually had very poor automatic fan profile setup. It would allow upper 90s before coming anywhere near fast or max fans and the system would safwty shut down. It is a EVGA GTX780Ti Superclocked edition, my brother uses stock as well but I did set his power target and temp limit up so he would surely get his stock boost clocks in games. I had to make a much more agressive fan profile to keep his cards happy and cool. What I would recommend is you do the same but orient towards a curve that allows higher temps for the same rpm on the fans and perhaps even maybe adjust your minimum fans speeds at low temps so its quieter idle or under light use. My brother didnt even have a ACX cooler so you should easily be able to use lower fan speeds at different temps to get much quiter use. I hope you get something going as you are better off with better cooling system like you have now and toned down versus a less efficient stock cooler. You have a cooler that at the same cooling capacity of a stock cooler would in fact run quiter in most cases. You will be much happier too because you will have created your own setup unique to your needs.
  11. Can't wait to get it all together. How are you liking yours these days Brian? Thanks Michael so much, glad to put our team into some competition
  12. lmao yeah the strategy is release one solid build then release Microcrap and sell it for a similar premium price and market it as new shiny interface then fix the mass amount of mistakes with Microcrap and release that as a Service Pack maybe hold off on a few mistakes and release a second service pack finally to come to realize even with all the bandaids all the microcrap is still micro crap and they must work to release another solid build. But well you know because Microcrap was so great they must figure gee we might as call this new not so Microcrap Windows 10, yeah because skipping to nice even numbers is cool [emoji41] lmao :end rant:

    Sony worth it?

For a basic Audio Video Reciever they arent bad. I have a pair of Headphones that have been great for years but they cost too much compared to even more Hi-Fidelity Headphones. You get what you pay for sometimes. The devices I have from Sony run very good but in some respects they are a company looking to sell items to people with a budget in mind. Sony always did better at TVs and other equipment than PC but they definitely had a premium feel from what I saw the Sony Vaio for example. Never used Sonys support so I have no idea about that.
  14. Thanks man its all good just happy to share maybe with a little work on the desktop im building it might give me some insight on how to make 2400mhz draw less juice on the timings i am able to use on the Alien 18 motherboard.
  15. wooooohoooo got it for 307 by time I made my deposit. $330 about after tax. can't wait! 4790K on the way and motherboard maybe another week before it ships.
  16. Is this like what you got? It looks pretty awesome buddy http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/138-kraken-g10-gpu-bracket.html Kraken G10?
  17. Thanks Faiz23 and J95 I am eyeing that 4790K still at $300, Im making a deposit tommorow so lets hope I can still find one for $300 since Cyber monday will be over. The GPU may have to wait longer but I can use IGP for great overclocking fun. Haha yeah J95 you know I am going to try 1.65v @ 2800mhz CL12 just sounds incredible so will have to see what can be managed. I might build it open case to save on build cost at first till later I get a case lol. I checked on the motherboard they should start shipping maybe another week from now.
  18. You are very welcome and was just a thought. I hope it works or the change in cable in anycase. Cheers and ill be looking to see if you got any progress
  19. Thanks, hmmm I wonder if they will make a new build based off of socket lga 2011 but a DDR4 motherboard for use with 5960X. That would require DDR4 SoDimm something yet to hit the market as well. In which case maybe will use all Sata3 id hope.
  20. wow! I am going to try this later. Maybe I can bench over 1200 core on my 880m, I usually hit the 160% limit not the temp limit. Thank you Prema.
  21. lol Awesome at that size I am sure it looks pretty amazing
  22. Wow omg, thank all of you so much. So glad to see all my great friends here. Even if you dont frequent here much or recently, you all equally are great friends and am very glad to see everyone here. Lol Cresterk "may your frames be high and temps be low"
  23. maybe thats what they mean perhaps to a small unnoticable percent at slightly lower volt there are some computational errors slowing it down and adding the extra volt fixed that for Mr Fox... maybe i actually did witness that in XTU clocking up a certain volt did give a better score but more heat. This was on Windows 7 but not to say Win8 doesnt do some shenanigans. personally example in firestrike on the combined test i watch my power draw and seems to me Win7 or Win 8 there maybe some kind of power balancing shenanigans going on because i saw higher fps at first in the combined test sometimes and with no change in clocks i see power draw drop and fps drop to a different level through the rest of the run. there may be something in the motherboards themselves on M18x R2 and Alien 18 motherboard. Robbo and Godfafa is right testing win 7 and 8 on same test same mhz across hardware and same volt would be a true indicator of Win 8 shenanigans.
  24. Thanks Prema :awesome: never knew there was a way to surpass that limit. Yeah I never user furmark I stopped using that program back in 2011. Agreed it is unrealistic load compared to games. So wait is there a way to surpass the power limit )) I monitor that in OSD ie higher than 160% or remove the limit?
