It will not throttle in the same way, i.e. you'll be able to get full 3d clocks. However if you also have an extreme CPU and attempt to overclock it, you may run into gpu throttling based on power limitations. Some people have had success (myself included) using an older 210w PSU and pulling out the centre pin on the jack to remove this throttling, allowing power consumption over 180W.

8GB is totally pointless at 1080p. All I can think is that the 880m will be focused on 3k or 4k laptops. Not terribly excited about next gen unless they are on 20nm lithography which means considerable step up in performance and hopefully lower power draw and temps. I have my m15x fully upgraded and enjoy new games on mostly very high settings. Depends if you already have an XM CPU or not, as to whether or not its worth upgrading or starting again with a desktop. Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk

Thanks for all the recommendations. This is turning into a great thread. I've got quite a game library building up. Don't doubt that I'm itching to replay Witcher 2, Mass Effect series (as Adept) and a few other titles mentioned here. Right now I'm playing the new Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. Not really a fan of others in the Assassins Creed series but the pirate element and ship commanding as well as the Caribbean setting are most excellent. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm also playing it on near max settings on my overclocked 7970M

I'm definitely excited about Star Citizen! And watch dogs, GTA V, BF 4 etc. These titles should keep me happy but I just hope we don't have to wait 6 months for GTA V PC release :-(

Hi guys, thanks for the continuing recommendations. Unfortunately I've already played most of the games suggested but it would take too long to list what i have played. Anyone suggest a good sci fi shooter that isn't mass effect?

Yeh but you didn't share how you did it so we had to find other methods. I haven't benched it but I can run FC3 with x23 multiplier with no throttling so I'm happy. Don't care about getting highest benchmarks. High gpu overclocking leads to higher temps, instability and shutdown when gaming so why bother?

Clearly you've read the 210w psu throttling fix thread so how can you say NBR section is dead! If you can afford the GTX 680M, its definitely a better option than 7970M. Overclocks higher and runs games smoother. 1.0mm or 1.5mm 5w/mk or 7w/mk phobya thermal pads both work fine on the gpu, not sure which is better. X-bracket from 460M should fit but you might need to remove the c-clip screws and for some normal screws. Definitely use svl7's modded bios as it has voltage tweaks which allow you to get 3d clocks. No throttling if you get 210w psu

In the UK an EVGA GTX 770 SC 2GB costs £328. The HIS HD 7950 IceQ Boost 3GB costs £238. £100 more a tiny bit better performance? Still, lets see what happens when AMD release new cards. HD 9950 could be interesting, if they release one lol.

Thanks for the comment. I meant the ASRock Z87M Extreme4 which is a mATX board, sorry for that mistake. I really want mATX form factor as I don't want a massive tower although I do like the Fractal Design Arc Midi 2. Also really like the Fractal Design Arc Mini 2 but not sure when it'll be realised. Space for x2 240mm radiators! Probably not sli/cf and I would like to overclock. I don't want to upgrade for a long time and an i5 4670k pushing 4.6+Ghz should last awhile (hopefully I get a good low voltage overclocker). Not really a fan of that Air 540 because its so damn wide. If not 7990 I still can't find a card that is better value than an AMD 7950. Similar performance to a GTX 770 and like £100 cheaper. Still its going to be October now when I start buying components so I'll wait to see what the 9970 offers, apparently better than Titan. If it comes in under £400 or 450 it could be interesting. Most GTX 780s are £550-650.

Yay! MSI 7990 now £500! Still pricey but that gpu should last me a long time in terms of playing games at 1080 or 1200p on max! Also have people heard about Zalman Reserator 3 with nanofluids? Looks really good!

I love strategy games but none can compare to shogun total war 2. I love commanding samurai and archers! Screw guns! Definitely about time I reinstalled it and started a campaign in legendary difficulty! There goes a month or two...

That case is absolutely huge! I love the paint mod, that is very close to my favourite colour! With nice components like that you should really have a windowed side panel

People can have validated benchmarks with some tessellation settings turned down giving higher scores. Try another benchmark like one built into a game e.g. Tomb Raider, Metro Last Light, Bioshock Infinite and see if you can find other people's results.
