1. *************** Revised OC edition vbios added to the second post, Dell and Clevo. *** I tweaked the vbios a bit more, should give you the best performance so far. Overclocking per software enabled, higher limits. Voltage is untouched, the Clevo card will run at 0.987V at 3d. The Dell card has adaptive voltage and clocks, at least that's what I heard from @littleone, thank you for the feedback, and thank you as well Mr. Fox - for testing and for the beers! Please let me know how it performs for you, voltage, clocks etc. The latest Nvidia beta drivers will result in a clock which is 13MHz lower than what is set in the vbios. Overclocking steps are 13MHz. @Clevo P1xxHM / P1xxEM users: Don't flash this vbios. Apparently it doesn't work on your machines. I can tweak the older vbios to perform similarly if people want this. Though I'd prefer to use the newer vbios, I think I can make it work on your systems. It does perform better. If anyone would like to test it, let me know. I don't see a reason why it should work when I adjust it a bit, but then again, the recent Clevo systems are weird when it comes to vbios and compatibility.

 2. Looks pretty good to me, really, I got 7.7k GPU when I benched at 1GHz with the MSI vbios, and 6.8k GPU with the same at 900MHz... so looks all fine to me. Also when I check the detailed scores nothing seems really off. Your GT1 is way better than what I get with this vbios on my system... then again my system seems to be bit special anyway. I'm really glad to see this vbios working that well. It works very fine for me, but for you guys it seems to work even better.

 3. It seems just for the raw power nvidia is the way to go but price wise I would always buy ATI when on a budget. Just my 2 cents.

 4. I am for Nvidia. It is like Intel in the processors and Windows in the OSes. You feel that they have a plan for the future while AMD is trying to survive and still be somehow in competition. Nvidia creates new technologies while AMD is trying to clone it. It is always behind the Nvidia. How many complaints did I hear about AMD driver? A lot! While only complaints about Nvidia's drivers were about Beta drivers. Almost never about WHQL.

 5. See if you can find the datasheets of the R4 online, would help. Else, the power source pin of the MXM connector is in the 12V range, but might be a bit higher or lower, you'd need to measure it. Also your battery is most likely at around 12V, grab a multimeter and see whether there's something which fits your needs.

 6. It's like choosing one from your 2 favourite meals I have experience with both manufactures, and none of them I regret. And yes of course nVidia has better driver. But now I'm seeing AMD catching up pretty fast. As in nVidia 3D, I'm not using this feature ever (until now), thus no plus in this feature (for me) AMD cards tends to run a little bit hotter. But then when it comes to C/P ratio.. ooh la la AMD clearly wins my wallet LOL Currently using nVidia one (570M) and looking forward to AMD (7970M) beause of it's C/P ratio $-)

 7. LOL. I almost did the same thing Xonar. Because I tried several cooler (CM U3, Notepal Ergostand and even a custom cooler I made myself) and barely made any difference. The only thing I'm looking forward is applying copper shims mod. I found a local workshop known for their specialty on copper shim mods on laptop. I'll post a thread as soon as I do the mods.

 8. Hi all, I used to be a NBR lurker but I decided to set roots here as tech forums should be just that, straight up about the tech, not politics nor having to suck up to sponsors to the detriment of the users. My shepherds were unclewebb and Tech Inferno Fan after discovering that they moved here. I've got an old M1530 that I plan to hit the limits with (Now to see if I can actually find that elusive PLL chip) before I eventually upgrade.

 10. This one is a tough call for me. I have always used both cards at about the same time and changing between both. After having been unable to use a desktop for months, I finally splurged on a portable desktop and had a choice between 7970M and GTX680M. In terms of longevity and support, I picked Nvidia in this situation since the 7970 has been out since summer and hasn't had much fixes for the Clevo laptop. In terms of drivers and support from the desktop side, I was fine with both cards (went from: GT8600, HD 4870, GTX 260, HD 6870) and had no issues besides being unable to play newer games without having to overclock or upgrade. I guess I join the neutral boat then.~

 11. Well, I don't know... Asus is a bit weird when it comes to mobile GPUs... for whatever reason they don't adhere to the MXM standard, probably because they want that the users have to buy new machines instead of being able to upgrade them. Anyway, the Clevo 660m works a G75VW vbios... and pretty well, here's a run @1200MHz: http://hwbot.org/image/815912.jpg Yesterday I managed 1330MHz, with some more voltage The Dell VBIOS might work... but it's also possible that you get a black screen with it. I can take a look at the G55 vbios when I find some time.
