  1. Finally some news regarding this game has surfaced. I've posted a few videos on the front page so in case you missed them, you can find the posts here: EA shows off first footage of Battlefield 3 | Tech|Inferno Leaked Battlefield 3 Video From GDC | Tech|Inferno The game is shaping up to be one hell of a sequel and hopefully the long wait will have been worth it! Of course I'll be buying the game the day its released (hopefully on steam).

The graph shows 60 fps at the bottom (not top as you would think). The higher the mark on the graph the lower the performance. It shows the CPU and GPU performance in Milliseconds and the higher the MS means the worse the performance for that component. So you can tell whether the GPU or CPU is causing the bottleneck. Now for lower systems I understand that both will probably not be able to push the 60fps mark. But, its a cool little graph to try. ___________________________________________________________ BF3 Settings Menu and Performance Impact GRAPHICS QUALITY TEXTURE QUALITY SHADOW QUALITY EFFECTS QUALITY MESH QUALITY TERRAIN QUALITY TERRAIN DECORATION ANTIALIASING DEFERRED ANTIALIASING POST MOTION BLUR ANTISTROPHIC FILTER AMBIENT OCCLUSION Methodology - I ported in an empty server. 4. Hey guys, I had an interesting question about throttlestop on my m18x i7-2760qm.. For some reason when i use it - my c0% is stuck at 99.9 and the Watts reading on the main throttlestop page is around 58W and this is the max I can get with primary plane adjustments and TPL limits maxed out. When I put my computer to sleep and resume my c0% is 100.0 straight across and my Watts is around 64W resulting it better turbos. I have already disabled ProcHOT and my temps are fine < 90C (throttle limit also raised in unlocked bios). My question is - what is changing when waking it up from sleep so I can apply this from fresh start?

  5. Nah I am getting a full 3.2 on turbo and longer turbos after sleep. That was just a random screenshot. My benchmark scores for my cpu are exactly where they should be and temps as well before and after sleep but benches higher after sleep, above the normal benches. So weird but after sleep it seems the hard power limit locks for the cpu are being bypassed. Unclewebb and me discussed this and he said this behavior might be on the verge of some discovery to bypass the hard limit power locks.

  7. check out how many watts I can get on intel burn test AFTER sleep. This is a 2760qm remember Before Sleep it is locked to the usual 58-59W. Temps do reflect the increase in watts as now I hit 95C on stock 2760qm cooling where I would hit 91-92 max on 59W.

  8. Seems like they're totally working to capacity until Christmas... damn, too bad. Hmm, maybe I can get it done somewhere else... but producing just one piece usually costs an arm and a leg...

  9. Welcome to T|I! Yes with the M18x and 6990 Xfire or 580M SLi, you can play the game comfortably using ultra settings at 1920x1080p. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  10. Yeah, if I had finished the model a couple of weeks earlier I'd already have it, but the customers have priority... Actually I have no plan to make more than one and sell them, the M15x has been phased out and the interest probably isn't too big... And remeber, it's only the heatsink, I will have to solder on the heatpipes... Well I'll see. Ah, and btw, I prefer $ to €, but best would be Swiss Francs We're not in the EU (for good reasons) and still have our own currency.

  11. Just played for like 2.5 hours straight, my longest play streak yet. Anyway, here's some photos, I use edge detect AA for my games and BF3 is set to Ultra (2xAA). The FPS never drops below 50 even during intense fights, my GPU is set at 800/1050 and CPU at 104 BCLK:

  12. Here is a thread to list some 'helpful' things to get you kick started in BF3. 1. Know your maps!!! (google them if needed) 2. Equipment should cater to your play style and map. Don't use 6x scopes for small maps. Stick with quick acquisition or open sights for small maps. Likewise on larger conquest maps, use more powerful scopes and switch to pistols when entering buildings. The Tac lights give you away but work well in small spaces. 3. Partner with your team members. Pair up and follow someone around for a while. You may not get all the kills but if your smart you may be able to cover them, learn the maps and offer support. (This tip changes as you get better) Eventually you want to space out on larger maps and group for building ambushes from different entrances. (Flanking etc...) 4. Before immediately going for the kill think about the following... (Do I have cover? Are other enemies around me? If I get the kill do I have enough time to recover for the next enemy?" 5. Use headphones with virtual surround sound. You know why some people have very high K/D ratio's??? Because they are listening for enemies approaching. You should do the same! 6. Check your radar often and HIT THAT Q BUTTON ALL THE TIME. You may get spots even when you don't see someone in open. 7. When you spawn in on an objective or player THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO IS PRONE! Do not turn off the light, do not throw a grenade, GO PRONE! I can't tell you how many times i have spawn in behind someone and popped a camper. 7(a) If you are spawning into an objective and keep getting killed then spawn at a different objective or back at the RU. Don't continue to give away free points to the other team. 8. If you are losing on a server, over and over, switch to another server. Some teams can not be saved. Don't attempt to save them. Go to another server. Its a pain but its better than getting overwhelmed by Team Suck Syndrome. 9. Communicate with your team. Call out campers and positions if you can't spot them. Warn others about spawn points. Play with confidence. When you act confused, your going to get popped. So don't do it. 10. Support your team members! Lay down some ammo for others to pickup. Provide some healing. Repair your vehicles. Common sense stuff that others completely forget to do. (However don't revive others in front of enemies just to get shot again... that's just annoying) 11. Try to play the objectives and capture bases when you can. Use cover to your advantage. Try not to move in the open. If your planning on taking an objective call for some assistance (helo, vehicles or team mates). 12. When attacking enemies weapon control is key. So for closer enemies you can spray more, for mid to far enemies, short taps on the fire button to shoot in bursts. As you get better weapons, you can change the fire modes from (Single, Burst, Auto). Last, I don't consider myself a pro. My stats are certainly not the greatest. If your new, these might help you out a bit. I love this game so far. Over 21 hours invested I think at this point. Best Wishes and Good Luck! StevenX XcessiveForce33 (origin and steam id)

  14. Here some news and details about something a lot of you guys have been waiting for... the BF3 beta!! Regular beta starts on the 29.09.11 (and in the U.S. on the 09.29.11 ) However, all with the MOH limited edition or Tier1 edition will be able to get access to the early beta, which starts on the 27th of September... (this includes me ) According to DICE employee the final version will require two GTX 580 to play the game at max possible settings... @Jimbo, you're ready? All details can be found here: Battlefield 3 Beta

  15. FIRST... THANK YOU ALEX SIX! I WILL REPAY YOU WHEN THE BF3 LAUNCH HITS. The Game: The game itself is a very weird combination of web interface plus back end engine. In truth I don't like the web interface but maybe it's something they have chosen to have it more lite on the front end. The game itself only has 4 settings in game once it's launched. Low, Med, High, Auto. The config file is located at C:\Users\YOURWINDOWSLOGINID\AppData\Local\BF3\settings The settings are strange in that if you make even one change and save, it will lock your game completely up. I have tried in game, out of game, auto. Here are some comparison screenshots taken with FRAPS. Stock Clocks, No OC. Each on Low, Medium, High, Auto Here are more screenshots taken with FRAPS. GPU @ 750/1000. Each on Low, Medium, High, Auto More screenshots taken with FRAPS. GPU @ 750/1000. Each on Low, Medium, High, Auto More screenshots taken with FRAPS. GPU @ 750/1000. Each on Low, Medium, High, Auto Here are screenshots of the actual configs on each setting level. Notice that even on lower settings that Ambient Occlusion is enabled. This alone will cause major impact to game performance. Again Low, Med, High then Auto. (Thoughts.. I am wondering if the config options are in mem **a lot like ATI driver settings** and rather than config file modifications we need a tool to modify the settings in memory) The config file is located at C:\Users\YOURWINDOWSLOGINID\AppData\Local\BF3\settings PROF_SAVE_body I played for many sessions (and on/off a few more). I stayed above 30fps for 95 percent of the time and up to 45fps during the outside maps. If Dice allows the ability to disable the ambient occlusion and AA we should easily be able to stay above 35-40fps even during the most intense fire fights IMO. I am very impressed with the game so far. I will post a few screenshots soon to follow. As you can see in the config file theirs really not much to choose from. I was yelling for others to optmize but at this point you really can't do much. I hope BETA allows for better individualization. For M14x Owners, if you get access to the Alpha, you can set it to AUTO, Low or Medium and play. If you set it to HIGH you will most likely see some drops into the 20s. I strongly advise you overclock to at least 750/900 as the screenshots show you its an extra 5 to 6fps for smooth gameplay. My concerns... 1. Dx9 was not supposed to be supported yet the directx9 source files are included with alpha install and when I run the bf3.exe in compatibility mode as Windows XP it runs. You get a warning at the top of the in the web browser but the game starts and works. 2. Is the game really running in DX10 or DX11? I can run the game without issue in vista sp2 compat mode and dont get an increase in performance. NEXT UP.. CPU UTILIZATION, GPU UTILIZATION, CORES, and other... CPU Utilization - i7-2630QM with all 8 threads enabled (parking disabled) hovered anywhere between 40-60percent utilization. most threads were around 40 percent utilized but overall total it was normally between those numbers. Never at 100 percent. GPU Utilization - The nvidia 555mGT stays pegged at 99-100 percent the entire match. My temps were normally around 72-74c at all times. The graphics themselves are a step back from BFBC2 it still seems to push the card. StevenX

  17. Really? Must've missed this information... this would explain a lot, also it makes sense since it's still alpha. But this would also mean that there will be a huge drop in fps once everything runs at DX11. And just a little thought... the game developers are always on a very tight schedule. Recently a lot of games (major titles) were scheduled too tightly, which resulted in delayed or crippled releases. I'm taking for example about the poor story of Black Ops (which was almost unplayable at the beginning and had literally required to be patched up) and Crysis 2, where they simply left out some main features, namely DX11 support. These games were release in an incomplete state, the DX11 patch for Crysis2 was "nice" of course, but it doesn't change the fact, that this should've been there from the very beginning, everything else is just very poor business and inacceptable in my opinion. I really hope that DICE manages to finish BF3 completely before the scheduled release date, I can't stand buying a such expensive game just to realize that half of the expected features are missing.
