idagon 10 Posted August 5, 2014 I had to reload the operating system as well, which is nice to get rid of the bloat software
ag97690 10 Posted August 8, 2014 Has anyone tried using a larger M2 SSD then 128?
Washanq 10 Posted August 8, 2014 I used msata ssd with samsung 128gb. Thats good for me.. Opening windows 5-7 seconds time and start game or app no problem..
rtfm 10 Posted August 8, 2014 Id love to go SSD but even 256 gig, is just meeting the lower limit. Also opening up my laptop again scares me, broke a huge sweat putting paste on the CPU.

farkedup 10 Posted August 8, 2014 I have a samsung 840pro 256gb and an Intel 520 series 256gb currently but I'm considering ordering a nice big m.2 drive. I can't find ANY valid information comparing the speeds so I really don't know which drive I'd want to use as the boot/primary
Xman1 10 Posted August 12, 2014 I'm using Sandisk Ultra Plus SSD 256GB on y510p.It's super fast and cheaper than samsung 840pro.

Will I have to open it up to find out?
farkedup 10 Posted August 13, 2014 They will both fit in the internal bay? Can I add on the M.2 to the existing drive? I did not see extra SATA ports when I opened up my y510pM.2 drive has it's own special slot. Before you try to be an internet smart guy you should actually READ what a person is telling you. I never said anything about using additional SATA. M.
rtfm 10 Posted August 13, 2014 Yes, I googled it after I posted. My bad. You sound confident the slot will be there?
iDesign 10 Posted August 15, 2014 Yes, I googled it after I posted. My bad. You sound confident the slot will be there? You need to check if your y510p has a ssd slot, as there are rumours of some y510p's not having the ssd slot. Mine does have the slot.- - - Updated - - -
adamosS 10 Posted August 17, 2014 I recommend the Corsair ForceGT SSD drive..I installed 480GB on my Y510p laptop..fast as F-

sinclair-zx81 10 Posted August 19, 2014 I just gave my wife my Y510p (GT755m SLI) and put a Corsair ForceGT 240GB I got as a refurb from MicroCenter in. I loaded Win7 Pro (we have much hate for 8), and I put the 1GB hybrid Seagate in my new (to me) Y580. The Corsair screams in the Y510p and I had no issues installing and configuring it (in Legacy mode of course).
combover1234 10 Posted August 20, 2014 If I replaced my hdd with an 500GB ssd, would there be any point in keeping the 24GB ssd in my laptop? I can't imagine express cache would have any effect with the primary drive being the same speed as the caching drive...
thaiusmle 10 Posted September 3, 2014 I replaced the 1TB HD to 256 Samsung 840 Pro. Never regret it. Difference in loading time and overall snappiness are night and day.

jon7701 15 Posted September 12, 2014 I got the 120gb super cache 2 from mydigital ssd and everything is running fast. i like that i was able to keep my 1tb hdd and install windows on the ssd. I might use the 24gb ssd in an enclosure for a fast usb 3.0 device.
LiverpoolsNo9 10 Posted September 12, 2014 Yeah I got the 840 pro as well, but considering adding the msata card if I can find one at a decent price.

MyNewLenovo 10 Posted September 15, 2014 The Samsung 850 is now released, if you can get your hands on it for not too much over the 840, it's faster..
