robby001
The other day I powered up my laptop and the screen was all fuzzy, so much so that it was very hard to see anything. Have noticed that this only happens when the commuter is cool (sitting for a while) also rebooting doesn’t fix it. Two things I have noticed is if I let it heat up about ten minutes you can actually see it get better, then when rebooted everything appear fine. The most surprising is if I pull the battery right away when it happens and reboot then everything is fine until it sits again. Does anyone have any idea what this maybe? I am still under warranty as the laptop is only about a month and a half old. So I will be getting a hold of tech support but just wanted to seeif anyone else has this same issue. Also all my drivers are up to date as is my bios.
mw86
I am unfamiliar with your particular wled but I had an lcd backlight go before and that's the symptoms I had. I'd have it repaired... You probably need a new lcd... Or the backlight and they may be one unit so you may need a full replacement lcd. robby001
You think it would go after a month and a half?
Founder Michael Posted May 30, 2011 Founder Share Posted May 30, 2011 yes. probably a faulty LCD/Inverter. it could also be the motherboard, but the immediate suspect is the LCD.

SlashX
Exactly...!!! Call them asap and have it replaced. It's a h/w issue for sure. And don't forget to watch those techs like a Vulture because they are well-known for fixing one thing and screwing up ten others. Good luck. Founder Brian Posted June 1, 2011 Founder Share Posted June 1, 2011 I agree, faulty LCD. Not much you can do aside from having tech support do an onsite repair. Good luck!
robby001
Called tech support and they overnighted the screen. Got a call yesterday for the repair from the Dell Authorized (what ever that means lol) repair to have it installed. Told him it would have to wait until Monday. So I will let you guys know how it goes from there.
robby001
Update for you guys. Service tech (nice guy) came and replaced the screen. His first comment was I just worked on one of these the other day and did a mother board replacement due to recall. I was thinking oh great, well after he replaced the screen the screen was still blurry. So he had both of the video cards to replace as well. The problem we ran into with this is that the bracket on the AMD card looked like it was glued on. The tech called support and they wanted the laptop sent in to a dell service facility. Well the tech advised me to remove the hard drive so that they wouldn’t just reformat it. Well computer went out today. So I will let you guys know what happens. Kind of thinking it maybe the mother board, the tech thinks so as well due to the fact that the screen and video cards are all connected through the mother board. robby001
Another update for you all. After about 3 weeks of harassing them about getting me my computer back to me I finally got a call yesterday that it is on its way. Apparently the parts were on back order. Seems like they must be having allot of issues. I will let you all know once I get the damn thing what they all replaced and if it is fixed. </SPAN>
Guest bifnewman
3 weeks? God damn. I got a paper that promised me a 2-day turn around time and waited 10 days for it. So now, anytime they bitch about me sending something back a day late, i remind them of my laptop being 8 days overdue.
mw86
@robby001 I'm sorry about the troubles I hope it all works out this time around and thanks for keeping us updated and for posting what they have replaced for you. Good idea removing the hard drive without a doubt.
robby001
Thanks Guys well just got my unit back yesterday. Would love to tell you all that everything is great. If I did that I know you all would think I was full of it. Well the screen blurriness is gone, BUT they failed to reinstall my graphics card. So no gaming for me again lol. Called tech support and like I expected they have sent the parts out and they were supposed to be here today. They sent a new graphics card, mother board, and a keyboard assembly. Well the parts didn’t show up. Called them just a few minutes ago and they said the reason it didn’t show up was that a part was backordered for a day. WOW never heard that before. So now it is supposed to be here tomorrow. Well they are now going to replace the parts that were supposed to be replaced when it was sent to the depot. Only thing they did there was replace a LCD cable and my video card. Well I guess it should have read replaced LCD cable, Removed Video card to mess with client took home and sold on eBay. Well I will let you all know what tomorrow brings. </SPAN>
Jimbo
That.... is atrocious.....Best of luck, and thanks for keeping us updated, speaking as someone who just paid for a 4 year premium warranty, this is important to know.
robby001
Yeah it is, funny you mentioned the warranty. I told the rep (Alex) last night "so after a year when my warranty is up I am going to have a three thousand dollar paper weight?" Really just sad how there customer support is setup. But I will for sure give you all a notice once I hear from the repair tech.
mw86
It really never ends just when you think everything is back in order there's something else they screwed up.
robby001
Yeah you are telling me lol. Well got a call from the tech that is going to be doing the work this morning (Same one as before) and he stated that he had the work order for me but no parts. So I called Dell up this morning and wanted to know why they weren’t here as the rep last night said they had shipped and would be here this morning. Well now not only is the palm rest (why I am getting that I have no idea) is back ordered and the video card is now as well. I asked to speak to his supervisor and wanted to know what my options where. Well he said he would check into it and see if the part really was backordered or if they just put that in the system to build their inventory. He actually called me back and stated that it was supposed to be available tomorrow but might not be able to be shipped now until Monday? WTF! Well he then said that another option would be to upgrade my card in his terms to a NVIDIA 580M. I currently have the Radeon 6970M and I have been really happy with it. I had a NVIDIA 460M before but it wouldn’t work with DOW2 which is my game of choice. (NVIDIA said it was a driver issue and Dell needed to update there drivers which calling Dell they wouldnt do since they had in there words never heard of a problem with it before) So my question is should I wait for my Radeon or go with the 580, they are both 2 GB cards. </SPAN>
robby001
So I was looking on Alienware here a moment ago rebuilding my system and I noticed that the ATI Radeon 6970M is no longer an option and now the Nvidia GTX 580M that same card the supervisor wants to put me in is the only one available. Does anyone know why this is the case? Did the radeon have problems?
Founder Michael Posted July 8, 2011 Founder Share Posted July 8, 2011 They must be running short on the 6970 supply, the 580M is much stronger so it's a win for you!
robby001
Well the tech brought the parts over yesterday to install them. They sent a mother board, 6970 graphics card, and a palm rest. Well we figured to install the graphics card first thinking all would be fine afterwards. Well as soon as it was booted back up the fuzzy screen was back... It was a good thing they sent a motherboard as the tech replaced that and it booted up just fine so hopefully all stays that way for awhile. So that is the end of the fuzzy screen dilemma </SPAN>
mw86
Glad this has been resolved for you its frustrating working with Dell, take it from me I haven't had my system for over 4 months now. It was just supposed to be an exchange.
