gneccao
I have a doubt between the Samsung PM830 and the Samsung PM840, the 840 is better and cheaper, but i don't know if is 100% comapatible like the PM830.Someone Knows?
Founder Michael Posted April 2, 2013 Founder Share Posted April 2, 2013 the 840 is 100% compatible but you won't see much performance difference as iirc the chipset on your model is limiting the ssd speeds.
Brian Melton
This is good to know, I just bought a 512 840 Pro wasn't sure why it wasn't capping out.
Dubdout
neither one should be an issue as long as the drive isn't more than 9.5mm thick.. Personally im running the corsair M4 512gb. Smooth and quick drive with zero issues
Superjoe
As said, with the ageing chipset I wouldn't go all out on a 6gbps drive. But there is another thread in the forum with a modified A08 BIOS that is supposed to give some good speeds. No matter what an SSD will improve the experience of using the laptop. lachymx
i've Recently installed a samsung 840 Pro 256gb and the speed is fantastic compared to the usual HDD, works a treat with no problems so far, i am however limited to sata 2 speed i am keen to try this bios with the sata 3 fix and see if i can get it up to full speed.
