Hello TechInferno Fans! I'm a newbie to the site, but not a newbie to computers. I've been working on them and with them since 1996. I have always been a bit confused with RAM memory specifically the following aspect. I'm building a Clevo P870TM (a.k.a Sager NP9877, Eurocom SkyX9C) laptop with an i9-9900k Intel CPU. The CPU Memory specs are as follow: Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) 128 GB Memory Types DDR4-2666 Max # of Memory Channels 2 Max Memory Bandwidth 41.6 GB/s ECC Memory Supported No Laptop Service manual states the following: Four 260 Pin SO-DIMM Sockets Supporting DDR4 2666MHz Memory (The real memory operating frequency depends on the FSB of the processor.) Memory Expandable from 8GB (minimum) up to 128GB (maximum) with i9 CPUs. Compatible with 4GB, 8GB, 16GB & 32GB Modules. Supports XMP 2666/3000 MHz. XMP is processor dependent and works with four DIMMs in dual channel or two DIMMs in single channel. The computer has four memory sockets for 260 pin Small Outline Dual In-line (SO-DIMM) DDR 4 type memory modules. The total memory size is automatically detected by the POST routine once you turn on your computer. Note that four SO-DIMMs are only supported by Quad-Core (and greater) CPUs; Dual-Core CPUs support two SO-DIMMs maximum. Two primary memory sockets are located under component bay cover (the bottom case cover), and two secondary memory sockets are located under the keyboard (not user upgradable). If you are installing only two RAM modules then they should be installed in the primary memory sockets under the component bay cover. Note that the RAM located under the keyboard is not user upgradable. I have no idea why the manual states "not user upgradable." The only thing I can think of is if the memory modules under the keyboard were soldered in place. Then they are not user upgradable. The CPU I have is an eight (8) core CPU, which means it supports four (4) SO-DIMMS in Dual Channel or two (2) SO-DIMMS in Single Channel. 16GB mem specs: Capacity: 16GB Memory Type: DDR4 ECC: Non-ECC DIMM Type: SODIMM Rank: 2Rx8 Speed: 2666 Voltage: 1.2V Density: 8G Depth: 2G Pins: 260 pin Width Height: x64/LP Width: x64 Die Generation: 4th Package Type: Flipchip Die Package: SDP Organization: x8 CL: 19 TRCD: 19 TRP: 19 32GB mem specs: Capacity: 32GB Memory Type: DDR4 ECC: Non-ECC DIMM Type: SODIMM Rank: 2Rx8 Speed: 2666 Voltage: 1.2V Density: 16G Depth: 4G Pins: 260 pin Width Height: x64/LP Width: x64 Die Generation: 2nd Package Type: Flipchip Die Package: SDP Organization: x8 CL: 19 TRCD: 19 TRP: 19 The obvious differences between the two type of memory are the specs on density, depth and die generation. I would like to buy 2x32GB memory sticks for $168 as opposed to 4x16GB for $192 and spend the difference on sea salt caramel ice cream (seriously). What are the PROS and CONS of 64GB in the Primary Single Channel (2 memory sticks) as opposed to 64GB in Dual Channel configuration (4 memory sticks). I really appreciate your help. Hi everyone I have some problems upgrading the RAM from my GX740 (Board: MS-1727). It came with 4GB of RAM, which sometimes is a bit too little, so i thought I could upgrade it to 8 GB. On my old RAM is written 1333mhz and a friend of me has some with 1333mhz, he gave me to test. Strange is, when i look on the clockspeed during the running OS it's at 1066mhz. (Does it clock down? Nevermind, thats not the mainproblem) Now the problem is, when the new RAM is installed, my laptop turns on normal, but as soon as the Windowsbootlogo (Win8.1) appears, it crashes with a nice BSOD. When i boot into my linux, it boots correctly but short after you log in it crashes too. The RAM is ok, because it worked well in an other machine, but when I run Memtest86+ in my machine with the new RAM it even refuses to start the test (error after one second and stops). Is the RAM just incompatible with my board, or is there a possibility to fix that problem with an unlocked BIOS? thanks in advance rik PS: Sorry if there are some english mistakes, my swiss-english isn't that good

Hello Fellow Tech Gurus!I am having a huge headache after upgrading the ram memory of my m17x r3. First let me start by saying I have been experiencing issues with my current ram setup recently, and so i decided to replace the ram inside of my computer, thinking they had gone out on me. It originally came with x4 2gb memory sticks, and as I started to experience issue, I started to removed them, and I was down to 1 2gb stick. It seems to me ram slots 1 & 2 are not working properly as when I put ram memory into them I would get BSOD in 5-10 mins of computer usage after boot. So I am thinking the slots have gone out. I also tested each slot individually and still same effect.So I went on the try out slots 3 & 4 under the keyboard, which seems to work just fine when I use only 1 ram chip in one or the other. But the problem occurs when I try and fill both ram slots in slots 3 & 4 under the keyboard with crucial 2x 8 gb of ram sticks, which total to 16gb total ram memory.BSOD and freezing occurs like crazy. But if I use just one of the ram sticks in either slot, no problem.I dunno if this is hardware or software. I am think that my motherboard is on its way out the door, but any suggestions you all have would be great. Hi all So I just got myself a ram upgrade for the laptop which is a mech-15hs, and to my disappointment, it doesnt support XMP, but would thaiphoon burner enable that? The chips I bought are supposed to "auto-overclocked" to highest potential, but obviously it just stays stock without xmp. These are the chips: https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX426S15IB2_16.pdf The PNP profile is 15-17-17-35-60-467 & 2666mhz and thats the same first timings as the first xmp profile at 15-17-17, so is there any point of even getting thaiphoon burner at this point? Or would using that enable xmp and auto overclock and such? The CPU is an i7-7700hq, and I dont think anyone has gotten past 2666mhz with it anyway, so am I just beating a dead horse with TB? Or are my chips really that good out the box?

Does anyone know if I can smack 2x16gb(32gb) ddr3l sodimm into the y510p without issue? Yes the documentation states it's upgradable to 16gb maximum, but surely that's bs, I mean the 4700Mq is capable of 32gb RAM so what's the problem? I read some speculation online on various forums, but can anyone confirm it is possible? I'm just scared to buy the RAM if it's not going to work. Thanks InB4 "you don't need that much RAM" I do.

Hello, my HP 8770w was sold with a Dualcore-CPU. I am now using an i7 3920XM, but there are missing two RAM-holdings on this mainboard (Many manufactures leave them out on dualcore MBs ). The 4-RAM-MB is too expensive just for this approach. So I tried to solder the missing RAM-Holdings on the Mainboard by hand: But the Laptop does not boot, if I add a RAM to the new holding (Same behaviour as like booting without any RAM). The Laptop still works, if I left the new holding empty. QUESTION: Is it possible, that a 3-RAM-configuration principally does not work and I will have to add the 4th module? Have anyone here successfully expanded the number of RAM-holdings?

Is it OK to mix RAM of same speed, but different size and manufacturers? Will it degrade my overall RAM performance? My current 8GB stick is in slot #2.

Still patiently wait for my NP8268-S to come in the mail, should only be a couple days away now. As ive been waiting, ive been thinking about all the mods im going to be completing on it. Then I had noticed I have alot of laptop RAM laying around the house, and just wanted to get a idea from everyone on the boards here, on which way I should go. 1- Stick with the stock ram thats coming with it, (2x4) 8gb ddr3 1333, Dont know what manufacture. 2- Swap in (2x8) 16gb ddr3 1333 Crucial ram? 3- Swap in (2x4) 8gb ddr3 1600 Ramaxel ram? Im tempted to swap in the faster Ramaxel ram.... but then again dont know if thats going to be of any benefit to going with slightly slower, double the ram 16gb? Also Ive never even heard of Ramaxel, I dont know if there a good manufacture, or "re branding" of ram units. Please bare with me in this probably simple question. Ive built many desktops, laptops, for myself / friends / work, but stopped about 8 years ago. So in that 8 years some things have changed, and are new to me, and im still trying to get a handle on whats in the market today. Primarily the naming nightmare, lol i7 this, i3 that, gtx 780m is a re branded what?.... lol so on, and so on. Thank you for any help of insight.

Ok guys and girls, my Alienware laptop got fried today so I am left without a computer and since I am out of the desktop game for a long time now I need your assistance to build one. What I need to get is: CPU, Motherboard, RAM and PSU. My budget for those is €1300. Based on the CPU I would like to hear your suggestions: 1st option i7 4770K (€310) 2nd option i7 4930K (€540) RAM can be between 8-16 GB (preferably 2 modules for the 16GB) DDR3 1866 or more. (no more than €200) PSU I was thinking Corsair AX Series 1200i Digital (€325) (or should I go with the cheaper professional series?) Motherboard I was thinking about Asus Rampage IV Gene if I go with with the 2nd CPU option, so I am up to suggestions (up to €320) About CPU cooling I believe a Corsair H100i (€110) will suffice. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Hi guys. I bought new memory for my nb MSI GX740 with core i5 m460 processor. I have 4GB (2x2GB) of RAM and i bought 8GB (2x 4GB) ddr3 (PC3-10600S), but it isn't work. I mean win7 starts normally, but it is unstable - blue screen etc. I have already installed actual bios - 1.0F from MSI website, but new memory still not work properly. Any ideas why? I have checked it on GE70, and new RAM is ok.

Hey everyone! so i was thinking of buying an Alienware M14x pretty soon. I was just wondering if there really is a difference of a single 6GB DDR3 @1600MHz and a 4/8GB Dual Channel DDR3 @1600MHz. Is it worth getting the extra RAM if i change the GB from 4 to 6 or 8? Or would it not matter much? and also, for the video card, should i stay at the 1.5GB DDR3 nVidia Geforce GT555 or get the 3GB one? Is there much of a difference in performance? I would only be playing Black Ops and MW3 when it comes out. Thanks for the help everyone!

Some people are saying that the M14 i7 processor 2630 can support 1600/1866 mhz memory, but others say it is not possible. YES it can...? But, intel says NO: Compare Intel® Products Is it worth it? Does it increase the performance significantly? what do you think? I'm thinking of buying this: CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 for $82 but if the M14 supports 1600/1866mhz i rather buy one of them
