I have a p150sm which has a seemingly dead 780m due to a perpetual error 43 which came after a big BSOD about 6 months ago. I upgraded the laptop to a 980m and modded the inf files. The upgrade was perfectly fine for a week. One day, i left the laptop and something related to sleep or power may have caused the laptop to shut off. Since then, the laptop with the 980m won't boot. I tried many things like resetting cmos, taking out the hardware and putting it back in, and resetting bios, and buying a 230W adapter. Nothing worked. The laptop works fine with the old dead 780m in there, but now when the 980m is in there, holding the power button generates a green light flash and then the power LED goes back to orange. No sounds, maybe one tick, and that's it. What is left to try?

Hello. I own an Alienware M17x-R3 and I'd like to upgrade the GPU. The current GPU is an Nvidia 460M, and i've acquired and installed a 780M. Unfortunately I'm running into a common problem, after I enable the IDT audio device in the BIOS Windows either goes to a blank or solid coloured screen right at the point where the Windows credential manager displays (the password prompt). I believe I've followed all of the instructions I've read about on this and other forums, but I'm still having the problem. Here are my details Laptop: M17x-R3 Original GPU: Nividia 460M New GPU: 780M OS: Windows 7 x64 and Windows 10 x64, same symptom on both. New Graphics Driver Version: Nvidia 364.51 IDT Graphics Driver Version: v.6330 BIOS: A12 Unlocked One concern I have is the 780M GPU I have is of unknown provenance, it came out of some other laptop, but I don't know the manufacturer. I do believe it is working because with HD audio disabled it runs fine with no crashes. Here is exactly what I've done. With the laptop still in it's stock unmodified state I did the following. Installed the A12 Unlocked BIOS Downloaded modded display drivers from here (http://downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/upgradeyourlaptop/Alienware/) I've tried the 364.51 drivers for Windows 7 and Windows 10. I didn't install them at this point. Used the GURU 3D tool in safe mode to completely clean out the existing NVIDIA drivers (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html) Rebooted into the BIOS and disabled the HD Audio, Disabled the Internal Graphics and set the primary display to PEG. I removed the old GPU, attached the existing heat sink and pipe to the new GPU using thermal paste and pads and installed all of it back in the laptop. Turned the laptop on and immediately went into the BIOS and confirmed the NVidia graphics were detected. Booted into Windows with digital signature verification for drivers disabled and installed the 364.51 modded driver I downloaded in step 2. Rebooted and did a few tests, display had the proper resolution and device manager indicated that I had a 780M installed. Rebooted went into the BIOS and enabled the High Definition audio, then immediately booted into safe mode. Installed IDT drivers version v.6330 (http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=Y037W) in safe mode. Booted into normal mode and I get stopped at either a blank or solid coloured screen right when the credential manager shows up (the password prompt) I've tried a few other things including various combinations of versions of the Nvidia and IDT drivers, Windows 7 OEM image and Windows 10 scratch install. Various orders of enabling the HD Audio and graphics. There are two things I haven't been able to try but which I saw suggested. Enable the Internal Graphics and HD Audio, remove the 780M GPU and boot using Internal Graphics, then do one or both of the following Install the IDT Driver at this point Disable Audio power management in the advanced tab of the IDT Control Panel Applet After doing those things disable Internal Graphics and HD Audio again, reinstall GPU, boot into Windows and Install Nvidia drivers, then reenable HD Audio. I've been unable to do these things because when I enable the Internal Graphics and remove the 780M I get no display at all and need to reset the BIOS to default using the Fn power one technique, after reinstalling the GPU. I'd appreciate some direction on how to proceed with troubleshooting.

Hello to all big format laptop users! I`ll try to make it as short as possible. I have the Alienware M18X R1 for about 7years, i think. It was a problematic machine all the time. But during warranty period local support fixed everything super fast and free of charge :). I even upgraded from gtx 580m sli to gtc 780m sli. And made primary hdd samsung evo ssd. Unlocked Bios. Power brick i changed 3 times by now. Battery once. And 6moths ago one of the long time ago installed 780m died ( started with artifacts on screen then refused to boot windows). Replaced that and was as happy as ever. The machine kept working stable and i pushed all i could get from it in reasonably modern titles. Even tried RDR2 on default settings, gave me 17fps :). Not sure if SLI is supported for that game. The point is it was running fine for last 6 months. What happened: Gaming as usual, room temp 23C. After around 2hr suddenly black screen. The laptop switched off by itself. What i check: First checked power brick. Green light off. Unplug from wall and laptop. After plugging in wall green light back on. Connect laptop light off. Next: Tried take out battery, unplug. And hold the PWR button for 1 min. Try to start on battery - nothing. Plug in - green light off again. Later: after some googling found that need to try to remove video cards. Done that. OK Nice! Plug in power and it starts as nothing happened on the integrated intel video. Found out that i one of the video cards is plugged in that triggers the power brick to trip. (the original upgrade 780m from years ago). Start with GPU: Insert the other one in its slot. Systems start. But immediately i notice there`s no video drivers. OK i think reinstalling and job done. Drivers reinstalled, asked for restart. After restart nothing. Still no driver. Windows device manager: This is bogging me. it shows that i have 670M instead of 780m. Windows gives Code 43 Error. BIOS: I go into bios just to find that that it has reverted back to A05 (hows that possible?). And its so limited that i cant even choose witch video card to use. But it detects nVidia GFX. How to get at least my single 780M to be working?! Update bios again to unlocked? Did this event fry Vbios on my other card maybe? System: m18x R1 SLI gtx 780m Unlocked bios (before event) nvidia driver 443.x(or there about) Win: 7, 64bit

I recently got a 2010 27" iMac for free! Some further research concluded that the MXM slot in the iMac has been proven to work with a GTX 880m, including Mac OS! I used to play with a 7970 ghz edition, but ended up selling it for some more projects. I've been lagging along on a 5870 2gb and thought that with my switch to the free iMac, I might as well update my gpu. Heres the problem I was faced with: the 880m is a little underpowered on stock clocks. So, after even more research I discovered that the 980m was around the same as a 7970 performance wise. I ended up grabbing a deal on an 880m for only 160$, but I did want to share my findings with you guys. *WARNING* ONLY 2009, 2010, AND 2011 IMACS HAVE THE MXM SLOT!!!! IF YOU ARE USING A 2012+ YOU CANNOT UPGRADE YOUR GPU So the 980m used to work all the way up to mac os sierra. It's now high sierra, but the fix is still pretty simple. What you will need: -thermal pads -copper ram heatsinks/ one of the specialized backplates that cools MXM memory modules. -Your graphics card -YOU NEED an imac 2011 gpu heatsink -GOOD thermal paste (Preferably liquid metal if youre comfortable with that) -IMAC 2010 power supply *As far as i know the power supply's between these 3 imac's are interchangeable, but the largest one is the 2010 variant, at the 310 watts, and the others are much lower. *Just from tdp we know that the 980m is 115w and the cpu's on these guys are most commonly 95w, thats allready 200 with out hdd, all the other components etc. -nvidia web drivers READ THE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY Step 1: You must have all your mac os/ windows partitions set up with bootcamp, and MAKE SURE it boots into Mac OS and wont boot into anything else when you start it up AFTER the upgrade. *Remember nvidia web drivers must be installed before you upgrae Step 2: dremel/ cnc/ remove a couple parts of the VRM section of the imac 2011 heatsink, (You want your card IN HAND so you are able to make sure it fits correctly. step 3: Assemble the gpu assembly step 4: Re assemble the imac, with the new gpu. *This is where is gets slightly harder* step 5: You want to reset your iMac's System Management Controller, otherwise known as SMC. *DO NOT FLASH NVRAM OR PRAM, or you will have to redo the whole process, after you put your old gpu in to fix all the bootcamp problems and such *You can do this by plugging the power cord into your imac, waiting 30 seconds and NOT turning it on, unplug your power cord, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait another 30 seconds, then turn it on. (But not before reading the following to be prepared:) step 6: You need to force Mac OS to work with an unsupported card. this is a pretty simple process if you are comfortable with terminal. * I couldn't have found this without this page: https://www.ifixit.com/Story/18646/Successful_iMac_Upgrade_to_GTX_880M " To make a non-apple provided Nvidia graphics card work in macOS Sierra you need to do the following… Start the computer in safe mode by holding shift. Get your BoardID by running this command in terminal echo "<result>$(ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | awk -F'["|"]' '/board-id/{print $4}')</result>" Open the AppleGraphicsControl Kext using this command sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kext/Contents/Info.plist Use the arrow keys to go down until you see <key>ConfigMap</key> followed by a bunch of keys and strings. LOOK FOR YOUR BOARD ID… IF IT IS LISTED: Change the string to <string>none</string> IF IT IS NOT LISTED: Add it in the same format as the ones listed. Save the file by pressing Ctrl+O, then enter. Exit by pressing Ctrl+X Rebuild the kernel cache using the following two commands: sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel AND sudo kextcache -system-caches Have Fun! Theoretically this should work, and I would love for somebody to try as I got an 880m instead. Just keep in mind this is all from research and has not been proven to work. Be sure to research this subject before you try it.

Hey guys, I recently upgraded my M15x with a i7 920XM and a GTX 780M. Flashed the modified vbios, got a 330W brick, pulled the pin, installed newest drivers and did some gaming. Everything worked pretty well, only sometimes the 780M reached 93C and clocked down, but still ran stable, never crashed. Therefore I decided to get a finer TIM and repaste. Bought the Noctua NT-H1, carefully repasted and voila, temps dropped around 15C. But here comes the catch: when trying Furmark or some very intensive game, the GPU reaches 88C and screen immediately turns a random color. No downclocking, no limiting, just a sudden crash. Only thing I can do is a hard reset. This doesnt happen on any other occasion, can game on 80C for an hour. Do you guys have any sort of idea why the laptop crashes at 88C, while before it worked at 90+ without a problem? Things I tried: Used DDU and reinstalled the drivers, also tried older version. CMOS reset. Cleaned everything, no dust left anywhere. Carefully checked the GPU for any visible damage or old TIM residue. Tried undervolting and underclocking, only took longer to get to 88C and still crashed. For the sake of it I actually strapped a Corsair H45 AIO to the GPU heatsink. Now i get to max 55C with furmark, but the laptop still cashes after around 2 minutes. I would be happy for any suggestion, thanks!

Hello everyone- (Sorry to those that saw my cut off post before... ) I need some help! I have an Alienware 17 that keeps turning off while gaming. It never gets over 55c (CPU) and 63c (GPU). I have cleaned the heatsinks, repasted via the guide on this forum and monitor the temps closely. It turns off playing Stellaris and No Man's Sky specifically but not while playing The Division or Company of Heroes 2 (Just to name a couple of games) Here are my specs: i7 4700mq GTX 780m (using custom vbios from TechInferno, I cant find it anymore, but paid a few bucks to access it) Intel SSD 750 Bios Version a14 Not sure there are any more relevant specs needed. Attached is the HWINFO log incase someone can see an anomaly I didn't. Thanks for any help you can provide. FortunoTredicim LOG 8-11.zip

Just like the title says, I cant get the driver to install. I'm on Windows 10 x64 release 160906. The card works in 1920 x 1080 with the windows vga drivers. I've disabled driver signing, I'm in test mode. I've tried the nvidia driver versions, 365.19, 372.54, 372.70, 372.90. With modded inf's for each from laptopvideo2go.com They all start the install, but when it gets to the driver install, the screen goes black for about 30 seconds, then the computer just reboots. The drivers don't get installed. I've seen a bunch of threads around about Windows 8, but nothing that seems to answer for windows 10. Is there something that I'm missing to get the drivers installed? Update, found this thread. I got the drivers installed following the directions, but after rebooting back into normal mode, the computer just reboots. I see the windows logo, screen goes black, then after about 30 seconds, it just reboots. This was using the 372.90 and inf files from the thread.

Hi guys So i think im going to run into an issue and may need some help I currently have a M17xr3-3D with a 580m.. Which died its the 3rd one, which is in need of an upgrade anyway. So i'm planning on buying a 780m which i will need an unlocked bios for. Only problem is i believe i need to access the bios to get the new card working As i've seen this in the sellers info installing their card in a M17x R2 R3 1. Flash bios with (R2) A10 or (R3) A12 , unlocked Bios 2. a) Disable onboard HD audio (/R3 Disable onboard grahpic card <- this don't apply to me as i have the 120hz 3d) Disable IDT GPU in advanced settings //R3 change display model from SG to PDG 3. Install Card 4. Install this driver with the .ini mod (easy): Is there anyway i can get my hand on a bios with those settings preconfigured so i have blind flash? otherwise im just going to keep getting beeps?

Hello fellow Aliens, My specs: Alienware M17xR4 got it back in Dec 2011 (Dell decided to upgrade my M17xR3 that crapped out on me) Intel Core i7 3940XM Upgraded from 660m to 780m 16GB Samsung 1600 RAM 2 500GB Samsung SSD in Raid 0 ( i know sue me) This will be a little guide with my journey of upgrading my dedicated GTX and CPU. Eagle vision activated and started the hunt on eBay for something that would not leave my bank with a massive dent. All i wanted to do is breathe more life into this monster that i have grown way too attached to. A quick search revealed people want way too much for their hard ware . How ever i started making offers and messaging people to negotiate a better price. I think it took me two days before i found a nice 3940XM listed for 350$. Messaged the dude and surely he replied with 200$ is a no go . But i can do 300$ . I had to come back with 280$ and to make the story short he accepted . Put my 3610QM after looking up on eBay they were going for 80$ give or take. So i listed it for 60$ with 4$ shipping . I got an E-mail from eBay; congrats on your listing...and your item sold . I did not want any negative feedback, so i removed the CPU wiped the thermal paste and decided to be with out my baby () until the 3940XM () arrived ( which took 3 days). That package was like a in my arms being delivered to its rightful owner. Reading all the replies on the offers i had made on 680m and 780m listings. From hell no to sorry you are crazy, there was a fellow that shared with me that the money is not a priority and his new 980m made him so happy he would sell his 780m for 300$ . Naturally i offered 280$ with paypal invoice = no eBay seller fees. What you know he accepted!!!! Listed my 660m for sale and till this day it is still there . I dont want to share my agony with you, waiting for a seven business day delivery by UPS ground , so lets fast forward to when i got the 780m and installing it. Seller advised i would need a 100W heat sink, which my poor 660m oddly had. So 780m is installed and a dual boot of Win10 and Win7 in order to see which Win the 780 preferred. Windows recognized the new hardware, so did the Bios, so i went to www.Nvidia.com and downloaded the latest drivers . The installer kept on saying no compatible hardware was found so that drove me . It was not until i googled " M17xR4 780m upgrade that i found out the 780m is not compatible the "Legal way" and a INF file modification was in place to get the drivers installed. Again googled M17xR4 780m upgrade drivers, and i found numerous of people crying for help as well. I thought to my self ( i will never see this work today, better try this in the morning, but before i went to sleep i needed some wisdom of a fellow Alien to come to my aid. A guy that goes by tanzmeister replied and guided me. Here is a copy paste for yas. These are the links you should check in order to install drivers properly:Flashing vBios:1- Guide:http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia-video-cards/2166-[guide]-nvidia-vbios-flashing.html2 - vBios for the 780mhttps://www.techinferno.com/index.p...king-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks/Modded drivers:http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...od-for-780m-880m-and-980m-mobile-gpus.767644/I am not actually sure these drivers are modded... They might just be "Enhanced". So check out this link as well to learn how to mod drivers yourself (really not that hard)https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/4055-guide-modding-nvidia-oem-inf-files/To install a modded driver you need to restart Windows with DSE disabled (driver signature). Please google this to find how to do it. I personally haven't tried MrFox's drivers but I read they yield fantastic results on Kepler GPU's (780m included) so you can give these a try. Everything worked!!!! Red Alert 2 and Age of Empires 2 were running!!!! Joking aside i launched Gta v and The witcher 3 which ran at a decent 30+ FPS. Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 i could play at Ultra. I was genuinely happy with my rig. Until today, for some reason i wanted to try an unlocked Bios. I was on A13, looked up Drivers on Dell's website and downloaded A12, A11, A10 and A05. Did you guess what i did next? I flashed them all one by one, A12 first which was a sucess, A11 which also yielded good results. A10 finished flashing and instead of restarting my Alienware decided to take a nap. Turn it on, and what i feared has happened. I HAD BRICKED MY BIOS!!!! Pulled my crappy Pentium laptop and googled M17xR4 bricked Bios. Thank the merciful lord of forgiveness, of light, of hope, of all that is great. I had stumbles on T|I: Following that i Blindly flashed A05 through recovery (which you really do not know what the hell is going on, Put the file on a flash drive, insert it in eSata. Shut down and remove both battery and AC adapter. Hold the END button on your keyboard and plug in your AC-adapter. Fans turn on 100% All the lights where showing, but then it started beeping and i had to go to work in 30 mins so i left it and proceeded to a warm shower. Finishing up and coming back to the room it was still beeping so i unplugged the AC-adapter reinserted the battery and AC-adapter. Pressed the and voila my tears were sucked back in. Thank you for reading, i know i am not much of a writer, but i just wanted to share my journey if someone was thinking of doing the 780m upgrade.

Hello, I have slv7's Vbios installed. I've had it installed for a while (months) and have had no problems. Recently within the past 3 days every time I start my computer, after everything boots up and loads about 30 seconds later the GPU fan ramps up all the way and the computer freezes and then the screen flashes and then comes back on and says my display driver has crashed after that happens everything runs normal for the rest of the time I have the computer running. I'll upload the exact Vbios I'm using. I do NOT own it**** Nvidia GTX 780m - 'OC edition' - rev02.zip Here are my specs - Alienware 17, i7 4800mq, gtx 780m, 16gb ram, 3d screen. other possibly useful information - Driver I am running 347.52 (have tried other to correct the problem with no luck) I have messed around with nvidia inspector and MSI afterburner I have over clocked further that the Vbios does for a short period of time (but I ran an external fan while I overclocked) Let me know If you need any other, Thanks!

I recently installed my new 780m. I started playing Arma 3 and I watched my temps climb to 90c pretty quickly. The card throttled itself like it was supposed to and the game started to lag. I tabbed out to look at PrecisionX and try and set a new fan curve because they wouldn't turn on. Then, all of a sudden, the fans turned on pretty high and dropped the temps down to 52c rapidly. I was able to play for a couple of hours with no problem. I tried to start up DayZ and the fans wont turn on at all after sitting at 90c for a while. Whats going on? How do I get the fans to turn on before it reaches 90c for an extended period of time?

Hi all! Recently purchased a new Clevo branded 780M GPU to fit into my m17X R4 (replacing the 7970M). After inserting the card and altering the bios settings (disable iGPU, primary display PEG) I receive 6 beeps. I have also followed this brief guide to installing the card: - Unplug power cord - Remove battery - Hold power buttonfor 30 seconds - Remove CMOS coin battery(next to GPU fan) - Remove gtx 770m -> 2 screws only, there's no need to remove the heat sink. - Reinsert CMOS battery - Plug power cord - Power on -> Beeps -> hold power buttonuntil shutdown. - Power on -> F2 -> disable the integrated graphics - Second Advanced Menu -> Video Configuration -> disable IGP -> set display to PEG -> Exit menu 'Save Without Exit' -> shutdown. - Reinsert gtx 770m. - Power ON -> F2 -> shutdown. //6 BEEPS START FROM THIS POINT - Reinsert Battery. - Additionally I have tried enabling "Always Enabler PEG" - with no success. Same 6 beeps - Used NVFlash to determine if it could see the card - no nvidia card detected. - I should also mention that no heatsink has been attached to the card during this process, 1 because I haven't received the correct sized screws, 2 because I don't think it would be required as no excess heat is being given off just trying to get the card to show up. Could this be my problem? Are there sensors in place stopping the card from booting if no heat-sink is installed? - Heat-sink with screws now in place! Where do I go from here, and what is causing the 6 beeps. Any help would be extremely appreciated! UPDATE When into the ePSA and ran a diagnostics, this is what it presented: ** Video Card - Video Card Connection Test ** Test Results : Pass ** Video Card - Video Memory Test ** Vendor Name: uEFI Product ID: Graphics Protocol Vendor Version: N/A Memory Start = 0xa0000000 Memory size tested 63.93MB Test Results : Pass

Hello, I have an Alienware 18 (2013 model, A09 Bios), with two GTX 780m SLI (modded bios), Core i7 4930MX (Stock - Overclock enabled on the Bios Settings but in Default values), 32Gb Ram 1600mhz. My friend has an very identical hardware, but his Alienware is a previous model, with a 3940MX Extreme Processor. The GPUs are identical, with modded bios too. Both systems with a 330W PSU. Running 3dkmark, we realized that GPU scores has a significative difference. After disabling Overclock option on the Bios, my scores grew a little more, but the difference between the systems continues. Results: Result Guys, do you think that can be my processor getting the power from the GPU's? If no, what could be? Thank you.

Like the subject title says, would you be interested in an article from Tech|Inferno that details purchasing and installing a 780M SLI in an Alienware M18x? We have old benchmark results with the 680M SLI + 7970M Crossfire which we could compare to it as well. Let us know!
