PessimisticPoseidon replied to BudMarLeY's topic in PC GamingI've been playing through Fallout 3, NV and 4. Looking forward to Fallout 5 (as well as the T.V show) but it's a way off. The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is the next Mass Effect game. Mass Effect 2 has to be my all-time favourite game. @jessiebuI completed Cyberpunk back on the earlier builds. Would you say enough (other than bugs) has changed to warrant another pass?

Which AMD product are you excited about?
PessimisticPoseidon replied to Brian's topic in AMD Video CardsI actually did buy a 5800X shortly after release for £440 during the shortage/squeeze, now available for £200 less. In fact, the 5800X3D is available cheaper than what I paid. I have the MSI MPG X570 Pro Carbon Gaming, 32GB 4000mhz memory, 3tb between 2 m.2 pcie 4.0 drives and a single 8TB mech drive (shockingly empty). My GPU is Nvidia (first Nvidia card in about a decade. I strangled my R9 290 for 7-8 years before finally making the jump. The marketing was real. I thought i wanted Ray-Tracing and believed that the 3080 was a bargain considering the huge jump over the last gen cards etc. I actually gamed more, enjoyed it more and was just far more enthusiastic when I had the Radeon For my bedroom I later built an R5 3600/B450 system for media and later gaming for the other half and I realized just how good a 3600 still is for sooo much less. Brian, are you immediately going over to 7xxx series or sticking around on the 5950?
What's your first personal computer?
PessimisticPoseidon replied to tarentyeh's topic in Off TopicMy first P.C was a Pentium 2 based custom hand-me-down from my father (he'd just made the jump to a Pentium 3 with 256mb of memory. If I recall it had 64mb (then 128mb) memory and a 8GB(?) IDE hard drive. I remember breaking it trying to instal bleem! and a hauppage tv card that never worked properly How far we have come
What music are you listening to right now?
PessimisticPoseidon replied to StamatisX's topic in Off TopicSay my name by Tove Styrke. It's a bubbly pop track with a few (forgivable) screechy/annoying sample moments but overall quite chipper. I'd actually forgotten it for a while before it was featured as an end credit song on she-hulk quite recently. For chill but uplifting I like OOYY and Melancholy, OOYY - Ganja
What movies have you seen lately?
PessimisticPoseidon replied to StamatisX's topic in Off TopicDC's Black Adam. Actually better than I'd thought for a Dwayne "Formerly know as The Rock" Johnson movie. I think I prefer Shazam if I'm honest. It'll be interesting to see how/if they'll tie them in together
RTX 3080 CPU bottle necking
PessimisticPoseidon replied to chrisssj2's topic in NVIDIA Video CardsIt would very much depend on the game, but with modern games making use of more cores and higher IPC gains I imagine you'd be limiting yourself if the option to upgrade is there. I upgraded my i7-4790K based desktop P.C with a 3080 FE. I noticed a HUGE uptick in performance when I changed the rest of the system to X579, Ryzen R7 5800X, DDR4 etc. IMO, a B450/R5 3600 based system is the absolute sweet spot for $$ to performance. I've noticed quite a few i7-6700hq/7700hq systems with a GTX 960 or GTX 1050/1060 gpu going for affordable prices on the secondhand market if portability is a requirement
Sony Vaio SVS13 / SVS15 series - Overclocking BIOS
PessimisticPoseidon replied to svl7's topic in SonyIt's a crying shame that Sony gimped the VAIO hardware so much. The GPU is clearly capable od much more and I don't undestand why the sata 3 hardware was limited to sata 2 speeds in later BIOS revisions. If for stability/compatibility issues it may be understandable, but they could at least be clear about it. With svl7 being one of two or three modders who seem to clearly understand the sony BIOS and seemingly innactive there's very little w can now do to get the performance back. I actually tried the nvidea inspector method (on my 2012 model SVS13) and it varied between doing nothing and just immediately becoming unstable. I have other hardware so it's not the worst but it's kinda sad to see such nice (if a little old) hardware not reaching it's full potential
