That's good to know. I always liked FrozenCPU. I'm glad they are still doing well, so I will consider buying from them again based on your recent experience.

I've also had nothing but good experiences with peformance-pcs.com. I had only one (out of many) order that wasn't perfect. I said something and they fixed it immediately. It ended with my complete satisfaction. What happened that ruined your experience?

Thats what i was expecting as well. Specially because of all the great feedback out there. Just turned into a bad experience for buying a 11g tube of Kryonaut. a few thermal pads and a few fans.

I asked a similar question to InXtron CS (Akitio ODM?) about charging. The reply I got was that their implementation of thunderbolt port on the board could provide up to 15W (5V/3A) of power.  That's too small to charge a laptop.

    Maybe Dan can confirm?

Yeap, there are 3 TB3 controllers out there, one is a single port version, the second one is a dual port and the 3rd one is the lower power version.

On desktops AFAIK they are capable of sourcing upto 100W, not sure about the laptop implementations, but the 15W sounds in line with what i have heard as well.

What's the problem with frozen CPU, was about to order pads from them this week?!

There may not be anything wrong. A few years ago the owner got in trouble with the law and ended up in the slammer. That caused some snags for customers with orders pending in process. They appear to be open for business, but that is all I know. I used to buy from them all the time and had no issues. I got out of the habit of buying from them when that happened.

I have been ordering from them for the past 2 years, haven't had any issues. Called them once to check on an order and modify it and they promptly helped me out on a Sunday.

Though i haven't ordered anything too expensive from them.

  4. There is definitely a bottle neck because of the available TB3 bandwidth. But hey, from 12k base score to 18k. Not bad.
Also the 1080 would not work with the @j95 driver, no matter what. I haven't tried installing the driver after connecting the 1080 though.

But once you connect using the eGPU, you can freely switch using the NVIDIA dialogue.

DISCLAIMER: Just because we're discussing about USB ports and Ethernet ports doesn't mean there will be any on this coming product. Maybe future product.

We're aware that the Core has crippled performance when the USB and Ethernet ports are in use. This is something we're researching about with our own product.

Thank you for being on the top of things Dan! Will keep an eye out.

In the mean time, lets see how well the HDK works ;)

I guess it also depends on whether you're sending back video signal to internal display or not. Btw will it work with Node?

@DanKnight can you tell us what are the main problems you encountered during testing? There must be some sort of explanation why razer core is the only tb3 egpu product despite the fact that many manufacturers like asus, msi and giga exhibited their own products but never released em.

    Intel, Apple and Licensing.

Nope? The TB3 connection provides 40 Gbps but the PCIe slot only uses 32 Gbps to follow PCIe specifications. Makes 8 Gbps leftover which can be used for peripheral stuff. Ethernet takes 1 Gbps, makes 7 Gbps left for the USB ports. Unless one is going to use only external SSDs with these ports, it's not going to happen that the bandwidth is used in a way that the GPU performance is crippled.

From what i have seen with the Razer Core. It does.

Well, I would first need to have it...and then to purchase a new camera.
My HTC ONE takes only purple pictures due to a manufacturing defect. :(

    Dang that's weird .

I think my sister's HTC10 had that issue, she got it replaced.

Seems like I'm more excited about your system lol :P j/k

Oh boy, my thermal pad purchase has turned out to be more time consuming than I hoped for...

All those high  Xw/mK versions appear to be very hard (naturally) and may reduce the heat-sink pressure on the DIE!?

When will we get to see pictures of your monster? ;)

  9. Yeap. Its the exact same thing, They just have changed the Device ID / Name. And from the port layout on the eGFX Box (Node), its seems like that also might have the same thing. Just with a different firmware.

Here is a quick picture, ill get you better ones later on tonight once im back from work.

Also InXtron seems to be Akitio's parent company / ODM ? And caters to commercial clients rather than end users.

Hey, the TB3 HDK is basically just the inner motherboard right ? Do you have pictures of it ? Thanks :)

I'm sorry, but I'm a little at a loss here, that still does not answer my question.

Do you own an XPS 13/15 to test your arriving eGPU Box with or
know someone that would let you test it on or do you not?

It's really just a yes or no question.

With that attitude, keep asking asking around.

I actually have the Akitio TB3 Box, the TB3 HDK and access to a Razer core and access to a XPS 15.

Does one of you have the chance to test the AKiTiO Thunder3 / Inxtron TB3 on an XPS 15 / 13?

    Edit:

Also Benjaminlsr would you say that a 200mm ( your zotacis 174mm ) could fit inside if you remove the little fan at the end?

And how long could the card be if you would cut a rectangular hole into the plate where the little fan currently sits, so that the
card would reach all the way to the front? another 20mm? If you could measure the exact length that would be really appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

When i first placed my order a few weeks back, they cancelled it stating it wasnt available. So i went ahead ordered the Inxtron TB3 HDK, which is pretty much the same as the Akitio.

It should ship next week, since some New Moon thing is going on where they are based and the offices are closed.

    Will keep you guys posted.

Do you mean the soldering points ? Yes I am using the barrel connector soldering points.

I need to download 3DMark to compare online test from mini ZOTAC and my own results.

I meant the soldering points that are on the top right side on the board.

I actually ordered the Inxtron TB3 HDK a few days back. The Akitio one is based off of that. They said i should have it in a week or 2, will post my results then.

I received the Thunder3 model at 6PM local time. Here it is modded and working at 10PM (including meal time).

    - Created 8 pins wires coming from barrel plug (4x 12v, 4x GROUND).

    - Drilled a 110mm hole.

    - Fixed a 120mm fan protection.

    Nice!

Would love to see some benchmarks~!

Also are you using the pre-existing pads on the board to power the GPU? Or is it coming from the PSU?

  14. 3 hours ago, Mr. Fox said:

I was referring to the CPU heat sink. Did you have to replace that as well, or did I confuse you with someone else? Your GPU heat sink mod was definitely cool stuff.

Now that I think back, I believe that @Phoenix also had a bad CPU heat sink on his machine.

Ah , actually yeah. I replaced that as well. And shimmed it.

    How much is a grid?

Depending on where you get it from, around $100.

29 minutes ago, Mr. Fox said:

Sorry, I thought you were saying the GPUs were getting too hot. I did not watch the video. Could still be a poorly fitting heat sink though. A couple of P870DM-G owners have had issues with heat sinks for the CPU not fitting properly. @bloodhawk was one and I think maybe it was @TBoneSan that needed to replace his. Likewise, 6700K needs to be delidded and pasted with Liquid Ultra to run at its coolest. If you do much overclocking with the stock paste under the IHS the temps are too high.

The new "Grid" GPU heat sink may also be contributing to high CPU temperatures. I'm not particularly keen on the idea of moving heat from the GPUs to CPU. If the CPU is already running too hot that might just make it even hotter.

Yeap, i got so frustrated with the heat sink that i did this to it : http://imgur.com/a/Gw2XM

Thank you @Prema for the explanation, So that's mean, if someone buy the  P870DM2 with one card and in the future decide to upgrade to SLI,  he will needs to buy the second GPU and the 'GRID' heat sink as well, but what kind of problems he will face? and what do you mean " The GRID heatsink does fit into the DM2 but NOT the original P870DM model."?

The point I 'm trying to reach, can the P870DM2 owners with 1XGTX1080 upgrade their laptops to 2XGTX1080 SLI straightforward or not? if not, what they should do to have the upgrade done? please explain more.

Yeap, Its as easy as adding a second card and adding the Grid Heat sink. And the Grid isnt as expensive as one might expect. And that you have 2 x 330W adapters.

EDIT : I guess Prema answered.
