M18x R1 Unlocked BIOS for GPU upgrade?
Zoldago replied to Amenges911's topic in Alienware M18x / AW 18
That's the point. Nvidia driver checks the laptop id in combination with the graphicscard id and if this is not listed in the driver then you get this not compatible Hardware found message. And if you have a combination that's never been sold by Dell it's not listed in the driver. So you have to modify the driver. You can find instuctions here https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/4055-guide-modding-nvidia-oem-inf-files/ -
M18x R1 Unlocked BIOS for GPU upgrade?
Zoldago replied to Amenges911's topic in Alienware M18x / AW 18
You have to mod the driver because Dell never sold the M18x R1 with 765M. And for the bios issue i'm not sure if you need a unlocked bios. I think it's the same like the M17x R3. -
Have you removed the drivers of the old card before?

It's not enough to make 5 "thanks" posts or something like that. You have to make a minimum of 5 QUALITY Posts. Then you get promoted and will be able to download. https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/announcement/4-user-account-promotion-rules-read-before-posting/

Alienware 17 with upgraded GTX 980M issues
Zoldago replied to maestro_jiang's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
The second came with a driver update after a big Windows 10 update. The instructions you use are a bit old, that's the reason why there's only one id Group. I always use section 033 and it worked for me in my M17x r4 with a 780M, 880M, 980M and 1060. -
Alienware 17 with upgraded GTX 980M issues
Zoldago replied to maestro_jiang's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
If you are using Windows 10 you have to modify 2 device id groups, "[NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.10.0...14310]" and "[NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.10.0]". What about your temps, are they ok? -
I've tried a 60Hz screen, just to know if it works and got 8 beeps (no Display found).
-
Do you put a R2 MB into a R1? I don't the exact difference between both Boards, but the R1 is for second gen cpu's (2xxx) and the r2 is for third gen cpu's (3xxx). So that's the reason.

You can find all part numbers on this dell site http://www.computer-spare-parts.info/catalog/index.php/cPath/22_57/sort/3a/page/1

1080P to 4k Display Alienware 17 (2014)
Zoldago replied to ReaverM1's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
Here you can see which part doesn't match on the heatsink of an M17x R4. It's not much work. https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10982-m17x-r4-gtx-1060-upgrade/&do=findComment&comment=155003 -
I think no. The GTX 1080 is much bigger and needs extra power.

computers done ! 120hz 980m 3940xm m14x r2 fan so happy
Zoldago replied to umbrellacorp's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
There exists a original R3/R4 GPU Fan with 11.something cfm, so there is no need to use a M14x R2 Fan. -
At the moment i use v5.42-3050. I know that sometimes the fan icon is not present. I don't think it depends on the version, but i have no idea what it depends on.
-
The fan icon is in the sensor section. When HWInfo is running rightclick on the icon and choose Sensor. Then you'll find it on the lower end, i checked that yesterday on my M11.

[M17xR4] Graphic card not recognized by SW
Zoldago replied to Gufo90's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
Wich OS do you use? A long time ago i tried to use Optimus with a 980M on Windows 10 and it did'nt work very well. The 980M runs on lowest MHz all the time, no matter which card should be used. In single mode all worked fine. -

Do you modified the drivers by yourself? If yes, have you checked the hardware id's after disabling the IGD. It's possible that it changed, so you have to modify the driver again. And by the way, there is no need for a unlocked bios to run a 780M in a R4. -
There is a fan control included in HWInfo, maybe it works for you.
-
Have you already looked here, https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/forum/114-apple-egpu-discussion/ ?
-
That's what i did. Maybe i got 1 or 2 from somewhere else, but most of them are original Dell Windows 8/7.
-
Sorry, i thought i had a list or all files in a folder but i did'nt. I think i used Windows 8 drivers if available, otherwise i used Windows 7 drivers.
-
I am glad to hear that you've found the problem.
-
I'm not gaming with it. As far as I can say it runs everything correctly. When i'm at home i can have a look what drivers i used and tell you the links for download.

240W power supply should be enough. 78° is not that high but maybe it throttles because of the temps. What temps are in Canada at the moment? You can go outside to make some Tests LoL.

I think there is only one A05 bios for the R3. I have 2 R3, one with i5 and one with i7, and the dell download link for the stock A05 is the same.
