  1. Thanks @TryptoPhan! The 300W Silverstone PSU with SFX formfaktor should be alright. But you should keep in mind: - small fan -> can be noisy under full load. But luckly that PSU is semi passiv and will only start the fan after a certain amount of load - it only has 2x6-Pin PCIe power connectors I am not so comfortable with that riser, because it doesn't provide a capacitor on the powered end at the riser side. I think I have seen some people with problems with cheap powered risers! The 760 should work easy in OSX and Windows, but got a 6-Pin and 8-Pin power connector! Imho the GTX 970 is much faster and by that the better choise! But need to be aware of some big changes at the GTX 970, because of the coilwhine problem most GTX 970 cards have. There will be two versions of the GTX 970 FTW: - the old FTW (04G-P4-2978-KR) 2x6Pin power connectors - the new FTW+ (04G-P4-3978-KR) 1x6Pin & 1x8Pin power connectors Additionally the new FTW+ has a much better power setting, runs cooler, has a front- & backplate and reduced coil whine. The is a new EVGA SSC as well (04G-P4-3975-KR), which is a bit slower FTW+ and without the backplate. So you will need a least an additional adapter to provide a 8-Pin PCIe power connector. Sth. like 2xMolex -> 6-Pin (so will have 3x6Pin), and a 2x6Pin -> 1x8Pin connector (you will have 1x6Pin and 1x8Pin).
  2. Updated my BF4 gameplay video. Quality is ultra now and the FPS are much better (don't know what happend in the first try).
  3. Don't know what happend at the old recording, but I tested BF4 on Ultra settings now on Hangar 21. Got 60-80fps all the time. Will upload that video now. Edit: Here is another try:
  4. That have been my old gaming settings. Can record Ultra Settings, but that is not the way I want to play. What do you want to see? Was on an external screen.
  5. Yes! I have seen one german user using a GTX 960 in a AKiTiO without a riser! He got a small (ITX version) of Gigabytes GTX 960 with one 6-Pin PCIe power connector and got it up and running. Imho that is close to the possible and some of the higher clocked GTX 960 might need a powered riser!
  6. Maybe the reseller price will be lower...? I think it is an interressting product as it can provide the additional 75W by a 6-Pin PCIe cable. Just curious how they do that? By connecting that cable to the free 4-Pin on the PCB in the lower area, right next to the power socket?
  7. From Wikipedia: PCI Express - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia So it seems AKiTiO and OWC are giving these boxes the exakt amount of power they should provide to anything besides GPUs = 25W in the Slot. A supplemental power cable should be a 6-Pin PCIe power cable = 75W. This box is very interessting, but there might be a problem with GPUs which need more than 25W from the PCIe slot... A GTX 750Ti with a 6-Pin power connector might work (maybe). Edit: If you take a look at the manual of the OWC you can see that the internal looks pretty much the same, as the AKiTiO. Maybe they have the same supplier?! Can't see anything of the supplemental power cable....
  8. Yes, I ran some tests with my first GTX 970. The first test is the one you might be interested in (from my first Guide): Without riser [AKiTiO PSU in use!], measured on the AKiTiO PSU: Idle ~ 10W Furmark ~ 70W [100% power target] Furmark ~ 74-75W [105% power target] Furmark ~ 78-80W [110% power target] Combination of GPU, ATX PSU, without riser [AKiTiO PSU in use!], measured on the ATX PSU: Idle ~ 12,5W Furmark ~ 150W (max. 155W [100% power target]) Furmark ~ 158W (max. 160W [105% power target]) Furmark ~ 165W (max. 167W [110% power target]) Combination of GPU, ATX PSU, AKiTiO [without PSU], molex powered riser: Idle ~ 21W Valley ~ 150-160W (max. 180W) 3dMark11 ~ 200W (max 215W) 3dMark13_Sky ~ 195-200W (crashes after entering the cave) 3dMark13_Fire ~ 170-200W (max. 210W) Furmark ~ 215W (max. 220W [100% power target]) Furmark ~ 225W (max. 230W [105% power target]) Furmark ~ 240W (max. 240W [110% power target])
  9. You think that OSX 10.10.2 will overwrite or change any of this? --- Edit: 10.10.2 doesn't affect this. I was worried that the "Thunderstrike exploit" patch would change sth on the EFI partition, but it didn´'t.
  10. Tested BF4 even with Ultra Settings and it's smooth. But to me it's more important to gain 60+ FPS in busy situations so I lower the quality I am considering buying Farcry 4 soon, so will add a video of that as well.
  11. GTX 970 and Yosemite never really worked good for me… so I gave up Sticking to Windows eGPU only!
  12. <strike>Have there been posts deleted here?</strike> Sorry gianni, I don't know any other way. Maybe Windows will be the best way to make it work.
  13. Mama Mia... Can you please boot into OSX without the eGPU, than turn on and connect the eGPU once you bootet into OSX. After that check the system profile please!
  14. Is the GPU now listed in the system profiler? In the graphics section or Thunderbolt section?
  15. Looks like AKiTiO has an eye on us and is pretty much aware what we are doing with the Thunder2 (5:10min):
  16. I am using one with a capacitor: [PCIE] 16x - 16x PCI-Express POWERED Riser Flex
  17. Caution! Read this really carefully and ask if you don't understand! Ok,… the Corsair PSU (any PC PSU) will not turn on, if you don't press the switch of the PC! So it's no wonder your eGPU doesn't work. Your PC PSU never was on!!!!!! To bypass that you need to apply the "paperclip trick": How to Check a Power Supply: 12 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow I used this part: https://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Bitspower-20-PIN-ATX-Ueberbrueckungsstecker::10568.html
  18. Nothing I am aware of. I guess Intel is very strict to licence TB to the industry. Right now the AKiTiO is the cheapest TB2 solution we know here in this forum!
  19. ahem.... so how did you power up the PSU? I mean, how did you make sure the PSU is starting and providing power? Did you test that?
  20. Yes, buy an AKiTiO Thunder2 and remove the PCB from it's case. You can take a loo at my guide in my signature!
  21. Windows is way much easier to see and test! Did you use the paperclip trick to start the RM 550W? Maybe that card needs a powered riser because of the high power consumption by the PCIe bus. I was just looking at the pictures in the beginning and I got scared! What is the 8-pin to molex connector you are using? Where is it from, that cable looks so wrong! Can't u use the 8-pin PCIe cable of the PSU directly?
