  1. Just picked it up yesterday and still haven't done any testing besides turning it on. However it is louder than I was expecting (even on low) but that shouldn't matter since I wear headphones when gaming. I will update shortly.
  2. I just got the Coolermaster X3 today, going to try it out later. @Varron, your name is really messing me up when I look at the recent threads, lol.
  3. Nope, only 42 mm will fit.
  4. probably not, even if you could get the electrical stuff all worked out there is the problem of the bios not booting with unrecognized cards. You would also have to hack the bios and even then I highly doubt it would work because the laptop probably couldn't supply the required 75w of power over the bus that a desktop card would need. There are a few old hacks out there were people use some connectors on laptops to do something similar but it was a huge amount of work and the bandwidth was very limited.
  5. BIG NEWS! Looks like Lenovo is working on the problem still and posted the following in my thread over on the Lenovo Support Forums: All, We've been quiet on this for a while even though it is being worked at several levels. I think we believe there may be different versions of the card in circulation, with the principle difference being the vbios on the card. We are working on a solution for the field, and I am hopeful it will be a simple vbios update. Ordinarily I wait until we are certain of the solution and have a timetable for it, but I know this has been a long running issue and I wanted to share that we are finally making progress. Best regards, Mark
  6. Nope, Optimus WILL NOT WORK with two cards installed. It has nothing to do with the bios being locked, it is a limitation of Optimus.
  7. Yep, that is the only option now. The more people that call and complain, the more chance this will get fixed.
  8. Sorry Darkworld but the SSD slot is not msata, it is M.2. (NGFF). You can keep the 1 TB HD and just add a M.2. SSD into the slot and you will have two drivers and you can clone your C drive over to the SSD. The only problem with the M.2. SSDs are they are rare right now and only MyDigitalSSD has one available in the 42mm lenght (which is the size you need). I bought one and really like it, you can find them on Amazon.com.
  9. I think the y400/500 had the 4000 actually disabled for some reason so I think you are out of luck with that model.
  10. Unless you are using a modified bios then you can't use that card. Lenovo blacklists all wifi cards that they have not approved.
  11. Sorry by Intel Haswell chips are not designed to run voltage higher than 1.35 on memory. Running 1.5 volt memory is going to put a lot of strain on the CPU (where the memory controller is located) so I wouldn't recommend it. It will also produce more heat which is already a concern for these laptops. I tried booting with 1.5 volt ram just to see what would happen and it wouldn't even turn on. Tom's says that Mobile Intel Haswell doesn't even support 1.5v ram so that could be why mine wouldn't boot: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/so-dimm-memory-performance,3674.html
  12. Sorry but that is not correct. ALL the y510p have a 4600 Intel graphics, it is built into the CPU. The sli models have it disabled in the bios when the SLI ultrabay card is installed. In order to re-enable it you have to pull the ultrabay card and reboot/install the intel drivers/re-stall Nvidia driver and it will be there and optimus will work fine. Then you can just put the ultrabay card back in when ever you want to use SLI or pull it out when ever you want to use optimus/intel GPU.
  13. I have 2x8 GB Gskill Ripjaw 1866 in my Y510p and it works great. Just make sure you get the 1.35v (low voltage) sodimms. These are the ones I got: Newegg.ca - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Laptop Memory Model F3-1866C11D-16GRSL
  14. I am running on of the MyDigitalSSDs in my Y510p and it works perfectly as my boot drive. I did a fresh install with a new copy of windows on it so I can just put the old SSD/HDD back at anytime and have it back to stock. Currently I have the 128GB M.2 as my boot drive and a Crucial M400 as my D drive (replacing the 1 TB HDD).
  15. Nope, I have both the 120w and the 170w adapter and neither fixed the issue. I got a new laptop from Lenovo that works but they are tinkering with my old one and it sounds like the cards they are selling are not compatible because other people have taken cards from factory SLI models and they work fine in our single card models. Lenovo is working with me on this trying to figure it out and I will update when I know more.
  16. I replaced my 24 GB SSD with the MydigitalSSD 128GB one and it works great. I have been running it for a few weeks and I am super happy with the performance of it.
  17. Check my thread, basically the ultrabay 750m5 card is incompatible with the Y510p despite what the website says. I have a 40 page long forum post in the Lenovo forums and a huge amount of posts about it over at Notebook review forums. Sorry but there is nothing you can do to make it work.
  18. I am the guy on the lenovo forums that started the long threat about the ultrabay 750m5 cards not working on Y510p laptops (when bought separately). The problem is that if you bought non-sli version of the y510p 750m and then bought the ultrabay 750m5 card it is not being detected by the laptop. The problem has been figured out and basically Lenovo neutered the non-sli versions so they can't provided enough power to the ultrabay to support the second card so you are out of luck. You might be able to return the card or send back the entire laptop for a motherboard change. I did the later and they put the same motherboard back in so it didn't work for me. Eventually I returned the entire laptop for a new one directly from Lenovo with the SLI from factory and it works now.
  19. Undervolting can really help with the CPU throttling. I undervolted mine by ~118mV and lowered my multipliers to 32x,31x,30x,29x and mine runs much cooler and it stays at 3.2Ghz on all 4 cores for over an hour.
  20. First post here, is there a way to take a bios from one persons 510p and applying it to your own laptop (without coping over their CD key)?
