  1. Okay so svl7, I'm having the same problem as the people who said that when they try to back up their bios, cmd pops up and immediately disappears. However, I do have a screenshot of what it says (for me atleast) is there anyway to get past this? Edit: I got an alternate back up to work... However, my usb is shown as a removeable disk but won't show up as a selection on the boot menu... Windows 8-64bit
  2. Also you should set the priority settings for whatever game you want to High or Realtime from the task manager. This will minimize how much the stuff in the background are running and increase the performance of the game.
  3. I'm pretty interested in them too because I'm planning to switch out my wifi card pretty soon but I've been told by my friend that you need to flash your bios when you do. He used a program to do that for him using one of the bios updates from another thread here. Would you know of any programs that could be used for that? I have a Lenovo Y580 bios v8.01.
  4. Hey, I'm new here but I have a Lenovo Y580 with Quad i7, Nvidia Geforce GTX 660M, 8 gbs ram, 1080p HD display, and I want to switch out my wifi card soon! I feel like most Lenovo wifi cards aren't that great hence the new wifi card.
  5. Just make sure to keep the wifi cards are arranged the same way and hook them up the same way. I don't think it'll be too big of a deal if you hook them up wrong (probs just wont get wifi) and if you do, then you can always reconnect the antennas. I'm planning to switch out my wifi card too
  6. My one friend has a Y580 and he added an SSD in place of the disk-drive, added a stronger wifi card as well as upgraded his ram from 8gb to 16gb. He uses Photoshop a lot for his drawings and he likes to have a lot of tabs in Google Chrome open simultaneously. Now that he upgraded his ram, he can have 3 Photoshops open, 100 tabs in Google Chrome, Battlefield 4, and Creo/Auto-Cad open and only use about 60-70% of his ram. So you definitely should upgrade to 16gb (keep it the same for simplicity) if you're doing a lot of video editing and of the such.
  7. are there programs out there that can flash your bios for you? I know of a friend who did that but he can't seem to remember what it was called... and particularly for this situation
