  1. Hey guys, I'm going to purchase an mSata drive for my M14xR2. Can you confirm that the mSata will work as a stand alone hard drive and I could install the OS on it, as I've heard some mSata packing MB's only support it as a caching drive. I'm looking at the 128gb ADATA SX300 as it's the cheapest in my country. I know the M500 Cricial is already available and I'm tempted to order it online, but I'm not sure if it will work as desired, so that's why I'm thinking of trying the Adata before buying. If anyone could confirm the mSata port will work as a stand alone drive, I'd be thankful.
  2. Nope. It was lying on the desk. I did elevate it and brought it to a technician for a proper cleanup and it now does significantly better = 91-92 maximum and 85 most of the time while testing. Idle temps are around 50-55 and it rarely turns on the high fan speed when gaming.
  3. I'm trying to get Tomb Raider to run on maximum @ 1200x1920 on external display, but it struggles a lot. I'm only OC'ed at the locked bios at the moment, waitng for modded A12. How is your performance?
  4. Are you sure it does ? If so, I hope we get a modded A12 soon (whenever it is possible, it is a FREE goodness after all)
  5. Well, my machine seems to be one of the faulty ones. It hits 100C easily when stress testing with PRIME or OCCT. The trouble is it's a refurbished one and I'm not sre if they'd take it back. I'm thinking on repasting mine as well and maybe doing some of the suggested mods. What are your normal temps when stress testing? I'm also using the modified A11 with throttle stop at 31x, as I have a I7 3610QM, which doesn't go higher with all 4 cores enabled. Other than that - it seems to run stable with 105 Bclk, so it's a shame that the cooling doesn't allow me to pump it up. UPDATE: I took it to a technician and they cleaned the fan compartment with compressed air. Huge difference in temps after that. Now getting 92C at most when stress testing, with average temps around 85, which is fine I guess. I didn't expect it to get stuck with dust and dirt that fast, usually takes at least 5-6 months. occt.pdf
  6. I used SLIC_ToolKit_V3.2 and got a license key, so for the moment just downloaded an untouched OEM copy and it activated by entering the 25 symbols key. The problem with portability remains. Unfortunately DELL and Microsoft support in my country don't want to help me. Is there any chance I could request the CD's and the COA to be delivered from another country. I tried to contact DELL USA and DELL France and they couldn't help me. Seems I can't do anything more at the moment. Probably buying a Dell CD and COA sticker off e-bay.
  7. I'm all in. Just need to get some nice cooling pad. For now just using some junk to raise my notebook about an inch above the desk - 90-91C on the CPU during stress testing vs. 95-96 when it sits on the desk. 106.5 FSB seems to be the limit though and probably overvolting might give us some more performance. The GPU is another story - I think it can take some undervolting, Now going to read the Ratinox's thoughs on undervolting. It's just that the GPU throttles when it reaches 67C, so I guess undervolting might solve that issue. P.S. I'm wondering what would hapen if I increase the "Core Current Limit" - I mean more current means more power draw and/or more volts I guess?
  8. Ok, so I searched a lot and didn't find a way to undervolt the GPU or the CPU. Is it possible to do that on M14xR2 and how, as the good old RM clock doesn't seem to work.
  9. So I just need to contact the local DELL support. I just made a dump of the SLIC table, not sure if I'm gonna need it. Update: Contacted local DELL support and they said the can't do nothing about it ! It seems the machine was registered in France and I should contact customer support there. I contacted their chat support, but they gave me a telephone number. It seems I'm gonna have a huge bill this month... Any international e-mail you guys know?
  10. Well, there is a sticker next to the Core i& on the left side, that says WINDOWS 7 How exactly do you activate with BIOS ??? And how do I obtain Windows 7 CD - maybe ask DELL for them? One more thing - for windows to be legal, doesn't it require the sticker to be on the machine at all times?
  11. Ok, so I just got a refurbished M14xR2, but the license sticker was missing. The price was good (about 1000$) and it still has some months of warranty left. I'm starting to wonder what happened to taht sticker and if there was any chance I could request a replacement one from Dell or MS. The bad thing is, that the hard disk was replaced and there are no backup CD's too. Any ideas except for purchasing all new OEM copy ?
  12. I'm using it alongside a DELL U2410, so it's really small compared to it. Other than that - colors are fine and brightness too. You should try and tinker with the Nvidia control panel.
  13. Windos 8 seems a bit smoother, yes. But I couldn't get over some issues with networking. I couldn't get it to work with my network printer/scanner and I tried a lot. I hope they fix some of the major glitches soon, it looks promising.
  14. One question : After upgrading BIOS to the unlocked A11, Windows won't start - it gets to a blue screen and then reboots instantly. I laubnched startup repair and it says it cannot repair Windows. There are 7 problem signatures, which I will be checking right now. NVM, just went to bios and changed from SATA Operation from RAID to AHCI. Now it works like a charm. WEll, I hope I'll save enough money to make that SSD Raid goodnes happen for me someday too
  15. Recently got the M14x R2 and I'm loving it so far. Not very portable, but still more quite more powerfull than my desktop, which is i5 2300. Now I'm tinkering with it to see how far I can get with overclocking. I have found that setting an FSB to 103-104 makes a big difference in performance and doesn't overheat the laptop so much (temps were about 90C while testing with OCCT, which maybe is a bit hot)
