Thanks so much for this allstone, helps me maintain temps @ 1240/2335 on my GPUs on my Y500 SLi. http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9782770

Hey guys c'mon lets keep it civil. Sorry to hear about your Y500, octiceps. Must have been a design flaw or something that downed you, I know you were quite cautious with your system. Good for you, getting a 750M system in exchange, I hope the whole process doesn't take too long. Keep us updated.

I've had the same thing while the GPU is hitting 97C. Pretty sure it is throttling.
-
Yeah, I have ThrottleStop running along with the GPUs at 1250/2500 and I saw my battery start to discharge. So even if we could effectively cool the system we'll then have to deal with the additional power load.
-
What I'm most interested in is whether or not it revises the cooling schemes, more specifically, the fan speeds it runs at. How cool does the system run when playing a game or such? Would you consider the fans loud? All subjective, I know, just looking for your impression.

IdeaPad Y500 BIOS Mods (overvolting, overclocked out of the box)

Echoing ocetips's sentiment, thank you for making ThrottleStop. I use it daily to boost my laptop's performance over what would be otherwise be not possible. -
I've been tweaking the thermal configuration in the modded 2.02 BIOS and the system doesn't seem to respond to the specifics that I set in the BIOS. Which is a shame.
-
What perplexes me is the fact that despite the system reaching these high temps the cooling fans do not go to full speed. The machine does really sound like a vacuum cleaner when they are at that speed, but still. If only we could figure out a way to macro start the dust cleaning cycle or otherwise set some software to manipulate fan rpm.
-
Hmm...pretty sure my system is throttling. Not going to a straight shut down...throttling. Looking at speedfan my framerate drops correspond with a quick lowering of temperatures. Maybe a feature of 2.02?
-
I have a cooling pad...still it doesn't seem to help all that much. See if I can do something to boost it's fan speed. Yep, overclocking my cooling pad is next. If the system spontaneously shuts down then so be it.

Flashed main BIOS with 1.2v. Confirmed flashable, but voltage at 1.1v. Testing 1250/500 and looking promising. Sent you some beer money, jester. -

Absolutely brilliant, jester_socom. What voltage is the ultrabay GPU set to? Also, do you have a 'buy me a beer' link? Edit: After extracting the ultrabay zip I see you've included all the voltage steps for it that you have made available for the system GPU. Edit 2: Flashed the ultrabay first and it was successful, nVidia Inspector reports voltage at 1.1v despite having flashed the 1.215v version. Bug? -
Mine is the same way, Jester. Looking at Speedfan the highest logged cpu temp is 104C, that was midday playing Bad Company 2 with Throttlestop enabled and both GPUs at 1150/2500. The system can handle even this load if we could figure out how to get the fans running at full speed. I've done a lot of googling looking for a way and no dice.
