Got a 330W PSU from Dell today. Tomorrow is a work day for me, but planning on taking it apart on Friday and checking the ID chip to see if it's the same pin count as the one in the 240W. If all looks promising, I'll transplant the chips and go from there.5 points

This is a modified version of the M17x R3 BIOS A10, it brings back the SATA behavior of A08 and earlier, while keeping the features of BIOS A10. A lot of users don't seem very happy with the changes Dell made to the SATA performance of BIOS A09 and up, thus I created this BIOS. Just keep in mind one thing: Dell probably didn't change the corresponding settings in the BIOS for no reason, so it's possible that certain drives may have issue with this BIOS, I don't know. According to a lot R3 users, A08 brings a clearly better SATA performance on a wide variety of drives. It's up to you to decide what you need and what you want to use. Now you have the choice. Download link for BIOS A10 with the 'SATA fix', and unlocked hidden menus: M17x R3 BIOS A10 - unlocked & 'SATA fix' Read the included READ ME for further information and instructions. Load the default settings in the BIOS setup after flashing. User at your own risk.1 point

running the extreme version of vantage and 3dmark11 will give you a pretty good feel of the cards potential (and that would be the extreme preset and not performance). add on top of that for gpu scores when using extreme cpus and high over clocks. and to be more to the point, quite using the points system and start using the actual fps it shows when finished. example: meaker lost to brian by 16 points on gpu? in reality...that's not a lost because the fps is dead even when you go back and look (speculating because i didn't go back and look yet). those fps translate in to gaming fps numbers. (planned gaming bench mark run) when doing mp, it will never be the same...because it's not just having the fastest setup on the planet to play...you also need the most stable connection...or in modern warfare 3 (mp) you need to be the guy in the middle, not the 4 bar or the 1 bar connection and you can still win using a budget notebook. might not look the best but they can sure up the fps by running some super low resolution. so do an extreme run of vantage and a extreme run of your favorite game and see if it really is "out dated" metro2033 would fit pretty good in there....so would gta4 no matter how one tries to come up with a system, there will always be people to complain about it. no matter how universal it may be.... so all you can do is grab some titles and let the masses make up their minds in the end....1 point

The Dell 580M has throttling issues. The Clevo works fine. If you buy a Dell, you'll need to flash the Clevo vBIOS on it to eliminate GPU throttling. Also, it draws a lot of power. You'll either need to solder a wire to the MXM slot or simply use TS to fix the CPU throttle that will happen. I recommend the later.1 point

Well, it works fine in the M18x, so I assume it's the samefor the R4, but I can't tell for sure Okay, can you try it per nvflash? Prepare an USB stick so that it can boot DOS and put the latest nvflash (DOS version) on it. Boot from the prepared drive and try dumping the vbios by using the command nvflash -b 660m.rom1 point

Hi Kaldon, there are quite alot issues with intels usb 3 controller chip which is integrated natively now since ivy bridge. The drivers are very buggy and the fix erratum list is long. Also the bandwith is a big problem of this new design. Anyway have you connected anything else but the external drives to any of the usb ports? This can cause varies issues while copying. I myself dont have any issues cause when i want to use usb 3 speed i unplug everything but the external drives from my usb ports before i install these buggy drivers for mass file transfer. After copying i make sure these drivers are completly gone from my system before i plug back in my wireless desktop, usb hub, printer and external sound device. Its not Alienwares fault but Intel´s for not fixing these issues about their highly prised native and backwards compatible usb 3.0 controller.1 point

Nope. Also the G75VW has a removable GPU module, so it might come with an on-board vbios instead of one integrated in the BIOS, not sure. Can you try to dump the vbios per GPU-Z, and if this doesn't work with nvflash (DOS version)? In case the vbios is separate I don't need to modify the G75 BIOS. - - - Updated - - - You have the permissions to download the file. Let me know how it performs.1 point

Thanks Oxnar. I'll download the file after my fifth post. I've been following forums for MSI computers since I bought mine last year. I would like to say that finally its nice to see and hear a grup of independent individuals who like what they do, and is good at what they do. This is a great site and people like me who really want to catch up with the computer tech curve really appreciate it. Thanks guy's your rockin it!!1 point
