I think the main advantage of custom built desktops is that you get warranty for individual parts. That said, the failure rates are probably way lower as well. Oh and last but not least important, you don't have to deal with the miserable excuse of Dell "tech" "support". Also, you can cherry pick whatever parts you want for your comp. You don't need to rely on Dell or someone equally (in)competent to do it for you.2 points

Yep, it seems with Intel's official announcement of their "Ivy Bridge" CPUs coming closer (latest rumor says it's going to be at the 23rd) Dell seems to clear their stock on "old" hardware.1 point

Yeah, I'm also wondering about any improvements. I quickly looked at the VBIOS, and it is quite a bit different.1 point

Some folks with the 580m on nbr have flashed their 580m's to a 675m. Guess that proves that the 675m is just a rebadge. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S2 using tapatalk 21 point

I just did a factory restore and am going to test out drivers now and see which ones work and which don't. I did notice that before i did the restore my intel drivers were set by ATI not intel. I couldn't get it to fix so am trying this. At the restored point with a clean slate and the switching works as I said. going to install 12.3 over this factory driver and see if I still have switching if not system restore back and try another until I am close to newest but still working. report back later what happens. Update 1. well installed 12.3 which the version number of the driver is strange everything works, no restart needed and I have switching and the newest drivers or at least I should. I will explain later and maybe take screen shots so I can explain better. Anyway have my system back and now installing the games and other software I use and happy that I have a 100% working system once again.1 point

Main post completely rewritten, added new pics,...I'll document future updates in the main post or is there a character limit per post? @Brian, @svl7: thanks for the preparatory work for the watermark (font,...) You're right, there should be no complications. GTX 590 is like two GTX 580 Sli (of course with lower clocks) and if you add a single GTX 580 your system works on TripleSli. Same behaviour with 6990+6970 => TripleCFX 6970 Please edit the link to your build log, can't find it on EVGA forums.1 point

Hi all, just FYI I merged the R4 posts in the same thread so that various posts about the same thing aren't scattered around. Thanks.1 point
