  1. Credit goes to lubu for creating a hack to work around this overlay message. Currently there is no real solution from Dell/nVidia and I doubt there will be one anytime soon. Purpose of method: To replace a bitmap file in nvstres.dll that contains the red overlay with the "prototype test only. nVidia confidential" while in 3D mode. Download PE Explorer Add in the replacement bitmap (see attached) Steps 1. Install and open PE explorer 2. Load your nvstres.dll file which is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision (select All Files in File Types) 3. Click on Resource Viewer/ Editor 4. Go to Bitmap folder and select 201 (this is the template of the warning msg) 5. Double clicks on 201 a new window should appear allowing you to edit the file 6. Open the replace201 bitmap file 7. Close the editor and save it as nvstres1.dll (for some reasons it wont allow me to save over the old file) 8. Delete the original nstres.dll and rename the new one as nvstres.dll 9. Restart your laptop These steps will have to be repeated each time the driver is updated to a new one. replace201.zip

  2. Hey sorry resurrect an old thread. With my new Corsair SSD, I've tried many things so increase the speeds of it, I've done the JJB tweak from NBR and various other tweaks within Win7. I've known about this tweak for a long time but I've always been reluctant to do it as I don't want my CPU pegged at full multi all the time. Unchecking C1E in throttlestop alone without the C-state reg hack works great. 4K writes went from under 49MB/s to well over 80MB/s

  3. Meh not surprised. I am thinking the next computer I buy to replace M17x, will definitely be the desktop (even thought that might not happen in a while ). I don't like the garbage components and want a gaming GPU. Obviously you can't get a decent laptop with both. The good screens are tied to business class laptops that suck for gaming. Plus, I can't stand 16:9 displays. Luckily in the desktop world there are still plenty of good quality IPS 16:10 displays.

  4. Well... we've got a response... and a status update. Not actually what Ihoped for. Status is now "not planned", here's the post from "Dell David_V": Not exactly something I'd call great news... but we'll see what the future brings. Btw, here's the profile of "Dell David_V", taken from Ideastorm: Pricing Analyst for the European division of AW... I think I have to write to him sometime regarding the European pricing strategy, his analyzing is way off. I hope it's the same for his predictions regarding the screens in AW systems.
