With Windows 10 everything works perfectly including processor states etc. However, with Xubuntu 14.04 - 16.04 + Linux Kernel 4.5-rc7, my preferred linux distro. There are are few problems, including one major issue - There is severe processor throttling when under load - starts at 4.2 GHz then throttles all cores down to 800 MHz (major) - WiFi wasn't able to work as support for the Killer 1535-ac wireless card isn't fully included as standard which I solved this by installing the correct firmware files - No backlight control The processor throttling is an issue for me because I do a lot kernel and Android OS development so linux is my main OS normally. Are you using a 6700k CPU? Have you tried contacting Prema for his magic BIOS ?

I will try sending a message to him - thanks. Also read that Windows 10 has patches from Intel to supports the new speed shift technology which replaces p-states. Linux doesn't have this yet. Guess it's a matter of time.

I might have to pull the trigger on the p775dm within a month so I'd like to know as much about this model as possible. Sent from my Micromax AQ4501 using Tapatalk I have been asking around for you and the only hardware difference between P775DM1 and P775DM is the Heatsink (GTX980 Vs. GTX980M) and AC Adapter (330W Vs. 240W). As far as I can tell, you could upgrade a P775DM to a P775DM1 by changing GTX980 GPU, Heatsink & AC Adapter and, well, the BIOS.(The GTX980 is NOT supported by any of the regular P7x0DM models). Also for the future I would stay away from the normal P7x0DM models...either get a P870 or a P775... I want the P775DM, and even more now that I know I could convert it to a P775DM1 later. But, I read another post that said only resellers in Asia are selling the P775DM. I can't find it...can someone point me to the resellers who are selling the P775DM?

aageon
Just joined. Bought a p775dm1-g as well. All runs well for the moment. haven't got around overclocking it just yet.
ggow
Mine has gone back to pcspecialist, I sent them screenshots of the issue I was having and they believe it's a problem. They say that the processor should be able to hold steady at 4GHz at least under load. I'll post back when I get the RMA report.
snowpepsi
After a few months of use I've settled on both a CPU overclock and an overvolt. This seems to have helped with the throttling. I've set the 6700K cpu speed to 4.4Ghz for 1-4 cores active, using a core voltage offset at -75mV. I was running at -80mV but my Dwarf Fortress save got mysteriously corrupted, so upped it slightly just in case it was related. My GPU has limited capacity to overclock though.. +60mhz gpu clock is close to the limit for my stable 980. Have left the GPU ram at defaults... didn't seem worth the time to raise that when the default clocks are more than sufficient.

Mine has also went back to PCSpecialist, mainly because it had 2 dead pixels right out of the box despite buying 1 year dead pixel guarantee and kindly asking them to really carefully test it for dead pixels. Just for the record, I have 6700 and my cpu downclocks (Not throttling according to XTU) to 3.0 Ghz under 100% load.

Just for the record, I have 6700 and my cpu downclocks (Not throttling according to XTU) to 3.0 Ghz under 100% load. I got my laptop back today from PC Specialist. They found fault with the cooling system. So that fixed the problem with the CPU throttling back to ~900 MHz and high temperatures. Also there is a confirmed fault in the current bios version which means the machine can't properly get to 4 - 4.2 GHz. They are now working with Clevo to get that fixed, after which they will test and issue the bios update to me so that's good news. The fan noise is whisper quiet when the CPU is under 100% load Under Xubuntu 14.04 the CPU is holding steady at 3.9 GHz under 100% load Under Windows 10 the CPU is holding at about 3.8 GHz under 100% load Just testing out my software build environment, will try a game or 2 shortly and report back further. One seriously fast machine Edited April 6, 2016 by ggow

I have not tried it yet, waiting to hear what PCS come up with following their chat with Clevo. aageon
Still have to try it out myself, fixes are great. But man the current BIOS is so barebones, it makes me cry. Only thing I miss over my previous Desktop.

aageon
my middle screw went missing as well, it was there before. Tried the 1.05.06 bios, not much change to notice anything different. But man it's still barebones..

fejerm
Does anyone have any idea how to lower the blur effect caused by the slow response time of the screen? fejerm
Does anyone else experience microstuttering if the FPS goes under 50 and G-Sync is active? Also, does anyone else experience this weird aftershadow in Rise of the Tomb Raider if DX12 is active ? Also, could someone please save the stock vBIOS for GTX980 for me and send it over ? My vBIOS is 84.04.88.00.2A, is there a newer version? I have checked reviews of this laptop and none of them had this bios...or this is the latest one ? Scotster
How are you guys getting on with this laptop now? I've been hovering over the trigger to get one but I can't help but think I may be missing out on the 1080m if I do. I've seen the P775DM2-G has been revealed with the presumed 1080m. fejerm
New bios is out! 1.05.09 I wonder what is "OC" item?... 1. System BIOS for P775DM1(-G) only. 2. Support “Fn + d + power button load BIOS defaults” function. (need to update EC to 1.05.03 or later) 3. Update Intel micro code. 4. Update ME to 11.0.10.1002. 5. Add “OC” item. 6. Refer to readme.txt to update BIOS.
