gianni
Hi, I'm Gianni and I'm new in this forum. I've read about many different configurations and tests about MacBookPro and expander Pcie. Today I want to ask you about the right settings solution for my Mac and my personal expander chassis. This is my Sonnet: I'm using a Corsair RM 550W PSU for GTX 970. I've updated my Mac to Yosemite 10.10. Now I'd like to know by you the next steps... Which Nvidia Drivers I have to use? Which best setting for BMD DeckLink? I've upgraded my Mac for editing and color correction on Avid Media Composer 7 and DaVinci Resolve 10. I'd like to use 4k workflow. Thank you! Dschijn
Good job! Can you add a picture of the whole setup with the eGPU case closed? Please take a look at this thread: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/8059-%5Bguide%5D-2013-15-macbook-pro-gt750m-gtx780ti%4016gbps-tb2-sonnet-ee-iii-d-osx10-10-a.html

I solved it by inputing it a second time and then it asked me for a password. No Idea why it worked but it worked.. Check your boot arguments after with sudo nvram boot-args
gianni
Before insert boot arguments, I have to install nvidia drivers (NVIDIA DRIVERS Quadro & GeForce Mac OS X Driver Release 343.01.01)?
w4vz
the boot arguments first.
gianni
Hi guys, I've followed the steps of this video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPOB9qmPjaE I've installed correctly Nvidia web driver 343. 01. 02F03 and Nvidia CUDA 6.5.25. I've edited the kext files with Textwrangler and after rebooting I've checked one more time the text. All seems to be fine...First time I've started the computer the booting was too long and the monitor had some problem. After a re-start the booting was really fast...but I cannot see the GTX970 on the system preferences...Please help me!
Dschijn
Can you please take a look deeper in the system preferences? "Resoconto di sistema...".In the graphics section should be 3 GPUs listed:- Iris Pro- GT 750M- GTX

Dschijn
Maybe you can try a newer driver? http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/81212/en-usIs the eGPU on? The GPU is getting the extra power from an additional PSU?Can you test in Windows? Please follow this guide: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/8059-%5Bguide%5D-2013-15-macbook-pro-gt750m-gtx780ti%4016gbps-tb2-sonnet-ee-iii-d-osx10-10-a.html
giordy
Ciao Gianni,In addition to modifying the kext files I had to do the following:1) run "sudo kextcache -system-caches" to rebuild the kext cache2) run "sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1 nvda_drv=1" to add the nvda switch which tells the system to use the NVIDIA web driver3) after installing the web drivers, I had to switch the graphic driver to NVIDIA WEB Driver in the driver manager preferencesGood Luck! gianni
Hi guys,I've tried to change the procedure. Now I've followed one by one the steps of this guide:[GUIDE] 2013 15" Macbook Pro GT750M + GTX780Ti@16Gbps-TB2 (Sonnet EE III-D) +OSX10.10...but nothing's changed... :-( I've installed this webdriver: 343.02.01f01 and this Cuda: 6.5.37 (GTX970 compatible).I'm using a Corsair RM 550W PSU and a Gigabyte GTX 970 GV-N970IXOC-4GD (the short one). Maybe the graphic card isn't compatible with Thunderbolt... or I've to install Windows?
Dschijn
Windows is way much easier to see and test! Did you use the paperclip trick to start the RM 550W? Maybe that card needs a powered riser because of the high power consumption by the PCIe bus.I was just looking at the pictures in the beginning and I got scared! What is the 8-pin to molex connector you are using? Where is it from, that cable looks so wrong! Can't u use the 8-pin PCIe cable of the PSU directly?
gianni
I didn't used a paperclip. I've just used the molex I've found in the box of gtx 970: After I've used the cable of PSU, a PCIe 6+2 pin like this: I didn't used a powered riser but I've used the sonnet external power. I've Windows 8.
Dschijn
I didn't used a paperclipahem.... so how did you power up the PSU? I mean, how did you make sure the PSU is starting and providing power? Did you test that?
gianni
Really not! How can I do?
Dschijn
Caution! Read this really carefully and ask if you don't understand!Ok,… the Corsair PSU (any PC PSU) will not turn on, if you don't press the switch of the PC! So it's no wonder your eGPU doesn't work. Your PC PSU never was on!!!!!!To bypass that you need to apply the "paperclip trick": How to Check a Power Supply: 12 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHowI used this part: https://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Bitspower-20-PIN-ATX-Ueberbrueckungsstecker::10568.html
gianni
Hi,now PSU is ok! Thank you so much! I've uninstalled Nvidia web driver and I've repeatead the steps...nothing happens. Black monitor. What I have to do? I'm considering to reinstall Yosemite...
Dschijn
Is the GPU now listed in the system profiler? In the graphics section or Thunderbolt section?
gianni
I cannot see nothing because the monitor doesn't works! No monitor, no sound, nothing...
Dschijn
Mama Mia...Can you please boot into OSX without the eGPU, than turn on and connect the eGPU once you bootet into OSX. After that check the system profile please!
gianni
I've reinstalled Yosemite and I've done all steps one more time. I've tested the PSU with a fan and it works. Finally, I've booted OSX and plugged the thunderbolt...Now any graphic card is shown in the system infos and, if I start o restart the computer with the thunderbolt connected, it doesn't boot the OSX. Dschijn
<strike>Have there been posts deleted here?</strike>Sorry gianni, I don't know any other way. Maybe Windows will be the best way to make it work.
gianni
Ok! Thank you very much for your precious help! I'll try one more time...the last one! If doesn't work, I'll install Windows.
